Sideline Scouting 4 Round Mock - 1/5/10

I can't imagine Belichick trading a 1st for a 2nd.

In this draft, it's more like trading a 1st for a 1st, and then you have the Raiders first already.

This is shaping up to be the deepest draft in a couple decades.

Even at QB, I think most of the top 5 kids are real players. I like Bradford and Clausen and Locket if he comes out.

If Belichick thought so highly of this draft that he wanted an extra second, he could have gotten one from the Raiders for Seymour.

This is a very deep draft, but that doesn't mean next year's is going to suck. Unless we're talking about one of the first 4-6 picks in the second round, I can't see the case where Belichick trades a #20 something pick next year for a #40-60 pick this year. That's what GMs who fear job security do.

But, there's a big difference between the Raiders pick and the Patriots pick.

I'm sure BB was thinking he'd get a better player in the top 5 to 10 next year than the top 5 to 10 of the second round this year.

For all we know, the Raiders pick might be later than the Patriots pick. Brady, Mayo, and Welker might miss the season and the Patriots might draft first. The Raiders could hire a competent coach, sign a good QB, and finish 10-6. 2 years is a long time in trying to predict how a team's going to finish.

While always a possibility i find it highly unlikely with alzheimer Al Davis at the controls.

They were a perennial playoff team, with a Super Bowl appearance, earlier this decade.

At any rate, it probably doesn't merit further discussion, at least on my part.

120. Barry Church, S, Toledo

Has anybody seen Church play? He's the only one from the list I know nothing about. There seemed to be no objections to using a 4th rounder on him when safety is probably one of our deepest positions with Meriweather, McGown, Sanders and Chung all under contact.

Unless they somehow get lucky and find a Warner or Brady out of nowhere the Raiders are porked with their current QBs especially Russell who Al apparently doesn't want to give up on.

Well, at this point it's only one year. They pick after next season. I'll grant you that this may change if they hire someone competent, but it's evident that coach must play Jamarcus, and who knows about Seymour.

Cable, who's done a great job with the team all season, just got fired for not playing JaMarcus Russell. Unless they hit on an All-Pro in the draft, the Raiders will be no better than 6-10.

Why is Jerry Hughes, DE/OLB, TCU a first rounder?

Going by whatever bowl game that was, I did see much to get excited about.

Fiesta Bowl, there were positives for him, for NE they mean he'll probably get a second round grade form most teams, though his style seems more suited for Indy at this point then NE.

He's a first rounder because he's been superb all season. Grading him off one game (where he was okay) is crazy.

In hindsight, after losing the playoff game we are picking #22 and the Jets are picking behind us. If Arrelious Benn is available at #22 I believe BB must go against his trend of not picking a WR in the 1st round. This kid is big, strong and fast. He had a poor QB throwing him the ball, but had good YAC. Golden Tate is another possibility.
