NFL Stats: by Player Category

Based on being the only patriot who puts constant pressure on the opposing QB, and the names he's sandwiched by, I consider him "great".

Thoughts?

He never really got a chance to play because our LBing corp was so deep during the early years of his career. You can say that some of his sacks are against weak olines (Buffalo), but 9.5 sacks is 9.5 sacks

Yeah, that's how I look at it. All those guys above him got cheap sacks too.

i have posted this before but i will again. Before the buffalo game there was a thread saying he was one of the worst olb's in the league. I think he has had a great year and has been underapreciated by a few (not all) but a few of the people on this board. 9.5 sacks is a good year in anyones books

I always figured he could be a 12-15 sack a year player...

But the game is based on 4 downs and not just 3rd and long.

I was looking at the stats too today. Tully is doing a great job this year. He reminds me of a young Teddy B. Started out as a rushing specialist and then became a complete LB.

He'll be a lot better for us next year when we have someone opposite him. Its rather amazing it took him this long to have such a good season as a pass rusher.

I'd say Mathis is having a better statistical season than TBC based on those numbers.

What's Mathis' contract number compared to TBC's vet minimum?

In 2009, TBC has been the best value on the Patriots this side of Welker.

When he left the team the first time, IMO, he was a pretty one-dimensional player, and the Pats were smart not to pay him. I was less than impressed when they brought him back, especially since his stats in SF weren't that great. There is no doubt he has developed this season however, into a more complete player, especially in the run game. Playing Colvin's old position, he's a stronger, if not sneakier rusher, and better at setting the edge. Colvin was probably better in coverage, but TBC isn't asked to do that much in the present scheme, and Guyton and Mayo are better able to fill on his side than previous MLB's. Nice to see TBC's maturation.

TBC is a very good pass rushing 4-3 DE.
