Now for the game-winning drive!

Game over. Underthrown.

So much for Fitzpatrick over Edwards . Like I said, the (edit) *ONLY good thing about this game is that I'm no longer concerned about us playing the Jills.

Don't worry, in a few years, all the Bills home games will be in Toronto. I just can't see the Bills staying in Buffalo for the long term. Not enough revenue.

Then what are you going to do about the other 7 or 8 teams making less than the Bills?

The Bills do sell out every game.

They are not at the bottom in terms of revenue.

The bills are not TOs home team. They have nothing to cheer for. There is a misconception out there that all NFL fans in Toronto are bills fans. Not really true. NFL is big out here, but you have pats fans, steeler fans, cowboys fans, etc. Who would you be cheering for if you were watching two NFC teams playing eachother?

But, one reason hiding below the surface is that 20% of the Bills fan base comes from Ontario.

That's why people thought the move was a natural. You have a built in fan base of about 12k to 15k who come to Buffalo.

As a follow-up, the Bills make more money than the following teams:

St Louis Rams
Cincinnati Bengals
Oakland Raiders
Detroit Lions
Jacksonville Jaguars
Indianapolis Colts
Arizona Cardinals
Atlanta Falcons
San Francisco 49ers
Minnesota Vikings

How is that possible? What is your source? I am not questioning you, just scratching my head here at some of the teams listed.

Yes, they are or at least in the top 5 or so. They have the lowest ticket prices in the league (their average ticket price is $51.24 with their highest ticket costing $77 and the league average is $74.99). Their average ticket price is less than half of what the Pats' tickets are (the Pats' average ticket price is $117.84). They don't have the luxury suites that most modern stadiums have. They don't have the local advertising revenue the rest of the league has (granted that is because in part because of Ralph Wilson's stubborness).

There are only maybe 2-3 teams that make less than the Bills on ticket sales (Jags, Bucs, and maybe the Chargers). The Bills sell out their stadium, but they make less ticket revenue than teams that can't sell out because of their ticket prices.

The Bengals aren't up there. Many owners complain that Mike Brown is making money and cries poor mouth.

I'm sorry, they are eighth in revenue. I was wrong:

NFL Team Valuations - Forbes.com

But they are in a dying city and could move to make more. There are several other teams that will move too in the next 5-10 years like the Jags.

What do you mean? I took this from the list of 2008 revenues from the NFL.

Revenues change from year to year, they were even higher last year. They go up and down.

I'm a skeptic about a Buffalo move not because Buffalo is great shakes but because I doubt there's a city out there that could support them better.

LA, let's not get into that--it's a new franchise guaranteed.

Other franchises such as Jax will move before Buffalo. Buffalo also has huge support of the NY state politicians as the only NY team in the NFL. Goodell's Dad, of course, was a US Senator from Western New York, and I drive down Goodell Street on my way home from work everyday.

As for Buffalo, it has staunched the flow of people leaving finally, it's gentrifying, and in the last 5 years has seen $4.5 billion worth of building downtown. All the industrial manufacturing is gone. In its place, there's biotech and banking. When you couple the population of the county (1.2 million) with Rochester (1.1 million) and the immediate population on the other side of the Niagara (500k) you get a pretty big footprint of about 3 million.

This is the NFL's list of revenues. Mine was for the previous year, 2007-2008. Rob pulled up a more recent version which is only different because Cincy and Arizona barely passed Buffalo (no surprise with Zone in a Super Bowl year).

And I doubt that the Bills can support them as the caps continue. The Bills already charge less than any other team in the league for tickets. Their highest ticket price is more than $30 less the Patriots' average ticket price and they don't have club seats and luxury box revenue like the Pats do (they have some, but not nearly as much). With the cap tied to revenue of the teams and teams like the Jets and Giants opening a new stadium that is going up.

I still think they are trying to build a fan base in Toronto because that is the logical move. They are a much larger city (the 5th largest city in North America). They are more affluent than the Buffalo area. They are close to Buffalo and can keep a large portion of the Buffalo fan base with many of the people who go to the games still being able to go to Toronto. Toronto has 2.5 million people alone and that doesn't even account for surrounding cities. And they will keep much of the current fan base if not most of them.

If the NFL goes international with teams, Toronto will get a team. The Bills are the most likely candidate since Buffalo is only about 100 miles away from Toronto.

I hear ya about Bills to Toronto.

I'm just a skeptic. Look at the Blue Jays, the money difference between US & Canada, taxes, etc. And no, I don't think Bills fans will make the trek to Toronto. Unless they are still called the Bills, I imagine they will stop following them altogether.

I do agree also that the salary cap-revenue formula is going to be a problem for them. Ralph Wilson was obviously throwing a fit over that. I don't think they are at the point yet where the cap bottom will become a problem for them, but $25-35 million rise in the cap is probably the breaking point given their yearly profit right now is only $15 million. The cap rises with inflation, as do profits and revenues, but that only accounts for, say, a $5 million increase. You add $5 million to $15 million in profits, and then you account for more aggressive marketing (stadium naming rights, other marketing efforts that are new) and you get another $5 million.

After that, the Bills start losing money.

The window is small. But 6 or 7 other teams are in the same exact boat, and it's a problem for the NFL because, as I see it, they have run out of cities to expand to other than LA.

If we don't commit to the run when we play Buffalo, then I'm gonna lose all hope for O'Brien.

That was the worst crowd for an NFL game I've EVER seen in my lifetime watching the league.

we coulda hollered back and forth across the field and heard ourselves all game.

please END this embarrassing experiment.
