Wilson: Edelman to play with cast

Listed as questionable on the injury report, New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is still expected to play.

According to the Boston Globe, Edelman will wear a partial cast on his right forearm. It's a carbon-fiber shield that he wore last week after missing the previous few games.

I have to wonder how exactly Edelman became a binky for so many of us.

For me, I like the 7th round-beat the odds story of making the team-totally unknown who is busting his rear end for everything he gets with this team. Based on some of the stories I have read about the kid, hes a class act ...

Oh and he plays last week with a broken arm..

I wouldnt put him in binki territory yet but I sure do root for him to do well.

I don't care so much where he was drafted - he is playing well. The fact he is a QB and has done so well (early, with Welker out, did he not get 90 yards ?)... he might continue progressing and become a cheap (monetarily speaking) contributor for some time.

Welker maybe quicker but I believe Edekman is faster overall

But in reality i dont think he gets any extra attention. Bit being a 7th round qb playing nfl reciever and getting 98 yards your first career game will help get some attention.

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT.... that is one day of analysis. It cannot speak for the majority. Welker is a waterbug.... great quick WR.


Edelman however is not as quick imo...... but is faster in a longer run.





I have my reservations and you have yours..... 1 day of judgment is inaccurate..... A bigger sample size is needed.

But Welker being quicker..... and


Edelman being faster is a truth and that needs to be explored more.

I don't. When he performs at a consistent high level in all aspects of his game then I'll give him his dues. Up until now, he's just doing the minimum requirement... feel good story or not.

At this point, I don't think the interest in having Edelman healthy is about him being a binky. He practiced with the first team throughout the offseason and has been our #3 except when he has been injured.

I am fine if Stanback is the #3 or if he Edelman is the #3. It seems that Edelman has been progressing well and it is good to see him.

Also, Edelman is an option as a returner. Slater was used this past week and was OK.

As far as an option as a quarterback, I'd rather have Faulk passing on the one trick pass this year by someone other than Brady and Hoyer.

I don't think it's fair to compare anybody to Wes Welker. I've called him a product of the system in the past and I still think his stats are definitely inflated by that system, but Wes Welker has intangibles I've never really seen before.

He's like that guy in baseball that you keep saying, "I just need one more at-bat and I'll get him." Then, at the end of the night, you're sitting there 0 for 4 scratching your head.

He works incredible in short areas and I've never seen him leave a yard on the field. I ******* hate when he gets the ball on those bubble screens against us.

Moss kills us with the big plays, Welker extends the drives and give Moss those opportunities.

I should have been a bit clearer: why is it that we hear so much about Edelman—more so than, say, Myron Pryor, who's done just as impressive a job shoving his way into the lineup?

NOTED..... and recognized. Welker is a beast....... it is hard to compare edleman to him because thet are different plyers w/ different attributes. I like them both, but at this point.... Welker > Edelman

having both is a luxury... but Welker is in a league of his own.

I agree with you in part on this: I doubt he gets thrown to 9-10x/game on most other teams. That said, he was still Miami's most productive receiver in 2006, and I think he could lead pretty much any team in the league in receptions (assuming they can actually get the ball to him).

Okay, I think CTPatsFan is right on this one. If both players were timed in t-shirts and shorts, I think Edelman would time faster every single time. Edelman's pro day wasn't a day of "analysis" or "judgement," as you called it, it's a timed examination that doesn't have to do much with football.

Welker is quicker in his routes, in his moves, and is at this point far and away the better player than Edelman. But take off the pads, and looking at it from just a quickness/agility standpoint, I think you'd have to go with Edelman.

I am certainly not the biggest Edelman binky. But I think it's remarkable the progress he's made from being a college quarterback to being productive catching passes from a Super Bowl MVP quarterback. Edelman has promise, and if he continues to improve on his route running, he could be a real nice weapon down the road.

I agree. I think most people like an underdog story. I've found that's especially true of westerners.

He's the classic Patriots player in many ways. Not spectacularly flashy, plays hurt, contributes, says all the right things, and generally plays better than his physical abilities should allow---h/o, dang those UT Cheerleaders have some good'uns in the mix--really, the quintessential early decade Patriots type winner. It's easy to like guys like that.
