One of, if not the Key, to beating Indy, is stopping Dallas Clark. Who will BB deploy to do so?

Altair?

I voted Chung, in part b/c the Colts expect it to be McGowan.

McGowan, He played Tony Gonzalez very well and seems to always be in coverage on the TE's. Shouldn't change this week. But if it isn't him I would say Chung. Clark is more athletic than Gonzalez, runs more seam routes and I think Chung is more athletic than McGowan, so that could also be a possibility.

I selected McGowan but considering that's who BB used against Gonzalez it wouldn't shock me to see it be somebody else. I think AD is likely.

McGowan.

One of the best in the league at what he is doing.

I'd also expect to see Thomas in there hitting him off the LOS.

Where is the selection for The National Guard?

Does Chung have more straight line speed than McGowan, b/c Clark is deceptively fast.

I thought Chung was known to be poor in coverage.

I agree I thought that was the knock on him in college.

On the poster who said Thomas to chip him off the line, I can see if that starts happening then Clark will line up in the slot more.

I suspect it will be mcGowan

I think it will primarily be McGowan, but I wouldn't be surprised to see BB shift it around a bit to confuse Manning. I could see Chung, Merwieather, Springs, AD and Guyton all drawing the assignment at times. I do think that we will have someone assigned to specifically target Clark at all times.

Keeping Manning off balance and being physical with him are the 2 keys to keeping him under control. Beat him up, and he's not the same. Rattle him, and he's not the same. Confuse him with different coverages (as we did with Rodney and Ty Law), and he's not the same. Those aren't easy to do, obviously. Let him get into a rhythm (BBDB with no pressure on the QB), and it will be a bloody mess for us.

That is what it will be. It won't be one player throughout the game. It's basically going to be bracket coverage, because our strong suit is having a deep DB personnel, so we will use that to avoid tiring out.

Harrison used to do it but then he is one of a kind. He could read Manning like Law did.

I don't think we'll use the Harrison/Law switch again. Manning is too intelligent to be fooled by the same thing twice.

I agree. But being physical is the key. People noted that Manning had a subpar game against SF, but that was because SF got in his face and rattled him. Knock Manning around and it disrupts his rhythm and timing, even when he's not directly pressured. He'll still get his yards, but it may help out in the red zone, as it did with SF (0 TDs, 86 QB rating). Add an opposing offense actually capable of putting points on the board, and the result may be different than it was in that game.

With this in mind, I would not be surprised if we did the whole game in the dime.

McGowan had help on TGonz. I suspect the Clark coverage will again be primarily McGowan with help.

Chris

That was me.

As soon as he goes in the Slot, i'd rotate between the 2 Brandons. If we get ahead and they are pass happy, i'd actually consider moving Wilhite or Butler inside to get a bit of slot coverage on a big guy. Both are deceptively good at tackling/wrapping up. They also seem to have good coverage skills and Butler especially seems to have the jump on a few plays.

The only problem with my 2nd scenario is Manning may try and fake the 2 kids out of their boots.

the way to win this game is to make the colts be one dimensional, so that we can forsee to a degree what they will try to do....

thats why i think well try to make their running game nonexistent...using limited resources....

therefore i think guyton covers clark, so he also support in run defense...

if clark is in the slot, prob a cb, since we have so many

i also see us playing a 4-2-5, with 2 safeties, 3 cb's

double cover wayne, put someone good on dallas to limit him

and u win

I thought one reason they signed Adalius Thomas was to cover guys like Clark. Didn't get to see the Falcons game but who covered Gonzalez in that one?

It was bracket coverage with McGowan as the primary.

That leaves the middle thin. Clark cut us up there last year I believe.
