Something is going on.

Was he on methamphetamine today?

Hes a revolving door.

He got some blocks and they ditched the zone crap.

did they?

if so, we need to get rid of it for good, best maroney has looked since the end of 07

Someone must have read that great thread we had last week on the zone block scheme

We could also ask who is this line that is opening holes for him. BTW, today wasn't even Maroney's best performance of the season. Maroney did rush for 123 yards and TD (7.7 YPC) against the Titans.

So he looked better today than when he rushed for 41 more yards and 3.6 more yards per carry with 4 less attempts three weeks ago?

Don't be surprised if he disappears because the Pats go pass crazy again. I was shocked he reached 20 carries today. Believe or not, Maroney is no different from most NFL RB's, they need many touches in order to be successful. Maroney can be a good back if the Pat just commit to him more.

His biggest test is next week,He MUST produce yards on the ground and keep Manning off the field, the running game is key to winning this game,if this game becomes a shootout, our chances of winning will go down.

Keep Manning off the field and you have a very good chance of winning,no one has really been able to do that yet - How I wish Fred Taylor was back,he usually played well against the Colts as a Jaguar

What makes you think so?

Indy ranks #5 in pass defense but #16 in run defense.

yes, easily

the titans had given up, those numbers are not really completely legit....these numbers against the phins are

plus against a better team

Tampa Bay has one of the worst rushing defenses in the NFL and Maroney gets 13 carries. That's what I mean.

With the Colts secondary dropping like flies and a weak run defense, the Pats should be able to do just about anything.

I don't know if it is his toughest test. The Dolphins have a better run defense than the Colts at least statistically. I don't even know if he will be used much more than today although it seems like he should be used more.

The Pats don't want to get into a shootout with the Colts, but they can accomplish this without running the ball. A short passing game will work just as well. Besides, the Colts haven't been as high powered on offense the last few weeks (although they are always a threat of turning it on).

Regardless of the stats, I couldn't have been much happier with his performance today. Fantastic second effort on the play when it looked like he'd been tackled at the line. Great presence of mind, as well as body control. Anyone else pleased when he lowered the shoulder and leveled a few defenders? I've always been a big fan of Maroney's, and it bothers me that people speak against him with such vitriol. He's a football player who's still getting back into the groove after a major injury/surgery, not a wimp or a saboteur.

Maroney, I salute you. Lead us to the playoffs.

I would disagree especially since Maroney was out of the game before the Titans gave up. Don't forget Maroney's work was pretty much done in the first half. The Titans basically quit after Maroney got most of his runs in.

Besides, the Dolphins were without their two best run defenders.

I loved how Maroney ran today, but I think no one gave him credit for a great performance against the Titans even before they gave up.

Funny, I always figured Joey Porter's mouth would be big enough to clog two lanes. Shame he doesn't play half as well as he talks.

Fred and Steve gave one of the best analysis of him I have seen with tape on NE tailgate. They showed where he was stopping and then hopping, having both feet off the ground at the same time. They also said that he had his best game in the snow because he couldn’t change direction. I hope he watched. He could be great if he would just run and stop thinking and trying to get the big one. One he gets through a hole he is incredibly dangerous. He just has to realize the D in the NFL is too fast and his best chance is to run straight rather then let folks peruse him while he is hopping in the backfield.

So there's no reason the Pats should go pass-happy next week and forget all about Maroney as you initially claimed:

I think that running the football is going to be a key against the Colts. While the short passing game may be effective on other teams, Indianapolis is build to stop the underneath game. It's Dungy's design, so it's just another brand of a cover-2 43 base team. They are built for pursuit, not power. Going to the slip screen, pop passes, and hitch game would only play into the strengths of the defense. You gotta get after these guys head on and take advantage of the areas the 2 creates along the hashes in the passing game. Without Sanders, if we can get the line motivated, the backs could be in for a huge game.
