Re: OT: Colts injuries (Sanders, Jackson, Gonzalez, Hagler) - MERGED UMBRELLA THREAD

Colts have been without most these guys anyways.

Marlin Jackson hasnt started a single game this year
Sanders has started 2
Hayden most of them...this one hurts but he will be back
Hagler is kind of a JAG LB, not sure if this is a big loss
Gonzalez has been out all year

this does mean they are stretched thin and have little room for further injuries now though

Re: OT: Colts injuries (Sanders, Jackson, Gonzalez, Hagler) - MERGED UMBRELLA THREAD

What gives is that we're probably going to murder the Dolphins, whereas the Colts actually worry me.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I'm worried about this entire schedule, the Dolphins included. They always seem to give us problems. I think will win this game though, but I wouldn't be suprised if it isn't by a comfortable margin.

Couple of problems with your thinking:
- The schedule has been kind to the Colts so far. The next month? Not so much.
- Even if the rookie CBs hold their own, Jennings is now their nickel (which will likely get close to starter snaps) and they really don't have a dime.
- Their starters in the back 7 will be forced to play the majority of snaps. Only Keiaho and Jennings are viable non-starters. Even if the starters stay healthy, they likely will be gassed late in the game.
- If Hagler is a JAG, then Wheeler must be JAG Lite.

The Colts defense does have some playmakers and they will have to come up big for the rest of the season. But it would be like the Pats losing Bodden, Wilhite, Meriweather, Guyton and Welker. Not quite a disaster but far from where you would like to be.

Re: OT: Colts injuries (Sanders, Jackson, Gonzalez, Hagler) - MERGED UMBRELLA THREAD

I'd agree in theory, but they've already been without him. Sanders has appeared in 2 games this year and registered 2 tackles. Hayden is going to require the biggest adjustment, IMO.

without sanders, they won't be able to keep up with the elite teams. they can beat the san franciscos but not the pittsburghs without him.

I haven't seen a worse week for any undefeated team this late in the season. That said, Sanders plays the game like a madman and this was a huge risk they knew they were taking when they built their defense around him. The Colts seem to be able to mask injuries as well as any other team with a lot of depth and Peyton Manning. However, this is not a team content to get to the playoffs, and winning it all just got a lot tougher with these injuries.

again, it would be like the Pats losing those guys if those guys really hadn't been contributors all year. none of the guys the Colts have lost have contributed as much as Merriweather or Welker, not even close.

as far as this season contributions, I would say the Pats equivalent losses would be more like:

Agonz = some guy with 0 snaps this year, so it doesn't matter
Marlin Jackson = Wilhite
Bob Sanders = James Sanders
Hayden = Bodden (though Bodden has actually played a lot more)
Hagler = Gary Guyton

yes, the Colts are 7-0 vs an easyish schedule, but they got to 7-0 without meaningful or any contributions from Sanders, Jackson, and Gonzalez. those 3 combined have played very few snaps this year. they have gotten a good deal of time from Hayden and a full season from Hagler.

this isn't a LOSS so much as it's a deficit to depth and now an impossibility for them to get healthier than they were. we'll see how much a loss Hagler is, it seems the Colts have shuffled LB's in and out of the lineup for years now.

as i said before their defense is still the same . play from ahead and let their pass rushers loose.there is a reason why their pass defense has been at the top and run defense not so much.
it comes down to the opposing teams defense against manning.

That's why we should still split the reps in this game. The temptation to try to take shots at that secondary is good, but we can move the ball on the ground as well. Their run defense isn't exactly stellar. On top of that, it will keep their pass rushers off guard, which will be a tremendous service to SeaBass.

I didn't read the whole thread, and it's probably been mentioned, but not only is Sanders injured, he's just been put on IR. See (Bob Sanders).

But probably more interesting to me is this tidbit in the rotoworld account:

"Colts placed SS Bob Sanders on injured reserve with a torn left biceps, ending his season. His season ends with three tackles and a pick in just two appearances. Beat reporter Philip B. Wilson speculates that the Colts will cut their losses with Sanders in the offseason to free up salary. 29 in February, Sanders is scheduled to make $2.275 million in 2010."

So it looks like they're going to cut him. Wow. I know he hardly ever plays, but it always seems like he's injured until the Patriots come to town, and then he plays great. I'm happy he'll be off the Colts, that's for sure.

why would they release him before a non-cap year?

w/e He is glass

NOT MY PROBLEM

With all the posts about Indy today, you would think the game against the Colts was this week. Hopefully the Pats are not looking ahead of the Dolphins like we are.

I was surprised to read that some PatsFans posters were not aware of who Marlin Jackson was. I considered him a solid player that was one of the top CBs in the league. Not that stats tell the whole story, but he only has 4 interceptions, .5 sacks and 2 FFs in his 4+ seasons. Those are not impact numbers. Not what I was expecting when I pulled up his info.

Yesterday was a good day. Just gotta keep the PATS healthy.

bout time the injury bug bit the Colts.

An injury bug bites the Colts every year. Same way as us.

On the Colts' schedule:
Opponents win rate .453 - fourth easiest in the NFL right now

Wait... Bob Sanders went on IR?

He did... WoW.

Someday someone will do a statistical analysis, regarding the number of injuries for teams after a play off year... it seems every time we go to a SB the next year is fraught with injuries..

Always wondered if the extended season gives the body less time to heal, and thus they are prone to more injuries the subsequent year... Pittsburgh has had a few this year...

If proven it would certainly negate any veracity to the value of an 18 game season..

Personally would prefer them all healthy, so when we beat them there is no excuses...

Re: OT: Colts injuries (Sanders, Jackson, Gonzalez, Hagler) - MERGED UMBRELLA THREAD

I wish Mr Potato Head ( Peyton ) would get worms in his ears.

I hate the colts and I wish they would all catch the swine flue before
our game next week.

Boo Boo Sanders visiting Dr Andrews is music to my ears.

That is a classy post and I am so glad it's not the norm.

For those of you who are interested in how Jamie Silva's doing with the Colts, he is leading the Special Teams group with 7 solo tackles, he's 2nd on the depth chart at Safety with Sanders out and, most importantly, he's the Colts new punt returner. Gives us something else to watch on the 15th.

Silva only did the punt returning last week because of the way the roster lined up with actives and non. I don't think he will be back there anymore. But you are right he is a beast on special teams this year.

Alright Rex Ryan - way to be happy that players are hurt. Remember they are people too, who have injuries that could impact their livelyhood. I don't like the Patriots but I wasn't cheering when Tom went down last year.

And about time the injury bug bit the Colts? They get hit with injuries every single year.

Re: OT: Colts Marlin Jackson out for season with ACL injury

I got that from the article posted..... never heard of him prior to the last hour.

After losing all credibility as a knowledgeable NFL fan by admitting this, you should stop running your mouth so much.
