NFL Game Center: Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots - 2009 Week 9

i would like to point out.....the part where Randy's talking about the defense double covering BOTH randy, and wes, what game was that?

it looks like it might have been TB game, but can anyone tell for sure?

i ask b/c if i were a defensive coordinator, thats what i would do....with no name wr's, rookies, and ST players as the rest of the reciever corps, i would double cover the two best, and let the rest beat me....

so i was wondering what game this was, so that i can maybe go back and see exactly how effective such a maneuver was....

TB might of done it, but the game where Wes and Randy were being double covered was last year vs the Jets when they beat us in OT I believe. If I remember correctly Gaffney had a good game that day, and Cassel put up over 400 yds and had that spectacular play at the end of regulation where Moss beat Law for the game tying touchdown in the corner of the end zone.

i remember that game, but the clip showed scenes from this year, so another team must have done it this year...

and yea, that infamous 3rd and 15 game.....

Re: Miami VS NE preview nfl.com

The clip showed where Randy was talking about both him and Wes being double covered was the Tampa game, i can tell by the stadium.

It didn't work out too great for them, as Watson and Aiken both had long TD passes.

Well, needless to say, whichever team covers up its biggest weakness on defense more effectively (Miami with the pass and the Pats with the run) will win the game. I have a feeling that we're going to be able to stuff Miami's running game.

I would also be double-team Moss and Welker. If they are effectively out of the game, the patriots would need to beat Miami with our running game and with our tight ends.

It was Tampa. You can see the advertisements that Wembley put up, as well as the International Series red patch on their jerseys.

Welker was in single coverage a lot in the Tampa game.

Don't forget about Aiken and Tate...

Yep. This is where signing Chris Baker to go along with Watson is supposed to help. I know Watson is capable, but hopefully Baker can join him in making them pay for double covering Moss and Welker.

so far baker has been a dissapointment...i dont know why though, my novice eyes tell me he hasnt played much, and gone out for a pass even less

I hope your pointing out that stopping the run would be our key to victory. Not saying that our D's ability to stop the run is it's weakness. I would agree that stopping the run is crucial for obvious reasons. But, this D backfield has prospered off not having to commit an extra man to the line of scrimmage.

The Patriots currently allow 4.5 YPC and 109 YPG. It's not a huge weakness, but it isn't as strong as some would say. There is a very impressive stat to speak of with the run defense though. It has only allowed one rushing TD this year.
