Unfortunately, I live in an area near Buffalo, so their games are always on. From what I've seen, Byrd has some good hands, and he deserves credit for being in the right place at the right time, but a lot of the picks are just awful throws.
The pick today deflected off a receiver's hands and bounced back towards Byrd, who was 5 yards away from the play. He was not in a good position to break up the pass, he wasn't close to a receiver, and the ball just came to him. The 2 picks against Carolina were just awful tosses from Delhomme. And Sanchez threw 2 more picks to him in that 5-INT game.
I recall at least 1 in each game where the receiver was overthrown by such a margin that they couldn't even attempt to break up the play. So at least 3 of the 5 picks had no receiver anywhere near Byrd to break up the play or interfere (since he's playing safety). I can't recall the other two, though it is incredibly difficult to track all of Sanchez and Delhomme's picks.
Don't get me wrong, he deserves credit for actually catching the ball. But lets not get carried away here.
