Did we make a mistake drafting Darius Butler?

Butler? What about Wheatley? That would've made for a better thread. While Butler got burned by Bryant last week, he has an recorded an interception in the last two games. He will probably be the Pats #1 CB in 2010. On the other hand, drafting Wheatley was a huge mistake.

Yep, Belichick should know exactly where all the pro bowlers from each draft will go, then trade to the pick directly before and take the players then. Anything less than that is a clear drafting mistake.

Not realistic. There aren't enough picks in the draft to pick up much more than the future HOFers.

This thread is weak. We missed on Delmas and grabbed Chung. If both were off the board maybe we get Byrd instead. Darius Butler is a man coverage corner, but Byrd moved to deep zone safety from being a zone corner at Oregon. No comparison.

Dude - go and buy a sarcasm detector. ************.

thread of the year

Byrd is only playing because of injuries...

Butler has played pretty well, I think a better question would be did we make a mistake taking chung instead of byrd considering they both played safety at oregon and both got taken in the 2nd.

This thread...it's a joke, right?

Right?

Easily the dumbest thread I've seen in at least a week. Put the bong down, dude.

how do we know this isn't a Bills fan in Pats clothing???

week after week we are inflitrated by Jet and Miami moles, almost undetected by everybody. There is NO real reason for this opening post to exist on this board unless someone has a secret Bills agenda...the Bills are going nowhere, their roster is meaningless, their players are of no consequence to ANY NE fan. For a "Pats" fan to even THINK of such a ludicrous post stinks of undercover troll.

For the heck of it, I'm going to take this question at face value and answer it seriously.

Think of it this way: which is more valued in this league?

1. A 5-10" free safety with no speed (4.68) but great instincts and ball skills

2. A 5-10" pure cover corner with excellent speed (4.41), spectacular leaping ability (43") and great ball skills

You only have to look at the salaries for the two positions to know that the CB is considered the much more valuable commodity. Now consider that the Patriots already had Brandon Meriweather at free safety and Sanders & Chung rounding out the safety roster, and it's no contest. Butler looked like a steal when they picked him, and he still looks like a steal 6 months later.

Yea... Might want to pull this post back. Senseless.

Unfortunately, I live in an area near Buffalo, so their games are always on. From what I've seen, Byrd has some good hands, and he deserves credit for being in the right place at the right time, but a lot of the picks are just awful throws.

The pick today deflected off a receiver's hands and bounced back towards Byrd, who was 5 yards away from the play. He was not in a good position to break up the pass, he wasn't close to a receiver, and the ball just came to him. The 2 picks against Carolina were just awful tosses from Delhomme. And Sanchez threw 2 more picks to him in that 5-INT game.

I recall at least 1 in each game where the receiver was overthrown by such a margin that they couldn't even attempt to break up the play. So at least 3 of the 5 picks had no receiver anywhere near Byrd to break up the play or interfere (since he's playing safety). I can't recall the other two, though it is incredibly difficult to track all of Sanchez and Delhomme's picks.

Don't get me wrong, he deserves credit for actually catching the ball. But lets not get carried away here.

I know it's early but Jairus Byrd has been beasting this year. For those who don't know, Byrd was drafted right after Butler by the Bills.
I know it's early, but this thread has an excellent chance of containing the stupidest question of the 2009 season.

Well, what's the official date of the "Trade Brady" thread?

Did I fall asleep and wake up in 2012? It is 7 games in his career. Let's not draw any conclusions about any rookie at this point.

I agree with this. It's still early in his career. I think he'll be a productive player for years to come.
