Play calling vs execution

It seems that after every loss and some wins, the #1 target is always the play calling on both offense and defense.

However to my eyes execution of the plays that were called is the biggest reason why the Patriots lost yesterday. Execution to me means not hitting the right open receiver, receivers not being where they are suppose to be, not blocking the right man, missed tackling, not being lined up correctly on D or losing the guy your suppose to be covering, not making the right reads on O OR D, and not committing avoidable penalties.

So what was it, play calling or poor execution. It could be a little of both but if you think poor execution is the main problem, then it can't be the play calling.

It was the throws, not the calls - the only issue I had with the playcalling is I wouldn't have gone into a shell when Light went out.

Poor execution. It starts with Brady, he played a lousy game. Lining up offsides on a critical 3rd down in overtime does'nt help either. Lot's of culpability to go around, but let's face it Brady sucked.... He'll get better that's for sure.

You can't miss wide open receivers (moss and welker) near the end of both halves and expect to win. That 11 points would have come in handy when the score was tied at 17. That being said Brady will get better. He has to get better because we will be .500 if he doesn't.

Playcalling is terrible. An example is 3rd and 3 with Brady in the shotgun and Faulk standing beside him, everytime I see that I know its more than likely the end of another drive.

With the notable exception of Brady's poor execution in a couple plays that should have won the game, overall there were not the best choices made playcalling for both offense and defense.

I usually blame or credit execution first. I think people are quick to blame the coordinators when things go bad and the players when things looks good.

It has to be both, there's no way to unlink the two.

If Brady throws the ball better in 2 or 3 places, they win the game.

At the same time, I can pretty much predict play after play that we are calling before the ball is snapped, based on formation. I think not having a real 3rd wideout is very limiting, and is a huge problem. If teams with good corners are going to play us man, and cover us well, then we're going to have to make adjustments. Galloway not being able to get on the field is an issue - teams can double Moss & Welker and then no one's open.

Execution. There is no excuse for missing wide open receivers when Brady had all day to throw most of the times. The offense cost us the game AGAIN, they need to start training a little bit harder NOW

Was Meriweather's taunting penalty poor execution or Pees not having the right defense? Was Springs drop of an Int in his bread basket Pees fault or poor execution?

Sure I can guess 4 or 5 plays on offense during a game by the formation but if it's blocked correctly and the backs execute it correctly it's not bad play calling.

It's easier to people to blame the mostly out-of-sight coach they barely know as opposed to the player they revere.

Can you please provide specific examples? I am going to do an in-depth analysis, and I have been thinking about this as one key element in the loss.

If I see another F'ing Faulk draw on 3rd down, I'm going to lose it. EXPECIALLY ON 3RD AND 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This week it was clearly execution. If Brady hits his open WR's and Ghost doesn't miss an easy FG this game is not close.

Oh yeah also a miracle catch by Gaffney on a deflection led to 3 more Denver points. Can't blame that one on the coaches either.

The running game was not working too well in the second half so I would say predictable playcalling was in the mix with poor running resulting in the loss

Its way too difficult to chosse between one or the other.

Hit Moss on that play I make every day in my backyard, we win by 4. Guys are running open all over the place; the ball just isn't coming in like Brady usually zips it.

Brady can't come with a yard of a receiver in a long pattern, so the issue is of course execution, or is it.

Just perhaps the coaches should know what plays Brady is best at, GIVEN HIS CURRENT CONDITION, and should make game plans and play calls considering such. Plays that Brady cannot efficiently and consistently execute should be removed from the playbook until such time that Brady can execute those plays. Charlie and Josh understood this.
