Thoughts on the Jets?

Personally, I don't think this will be a close game. We did not have a good first game. Belichick will be on them all week. We never have two poor weeks in a row. The patriots will be very ready for this game. I think it is as simple as "we are the better team, we are well-motivated, well-coached and we will execute".

The may win lots of games this year (or not). I just don't think this will be one of them.

The bills moved the ball on us because the patriots game plan was to stop T.O and prevent evans from burning us deep. Thats why the bills went with all the under neath stuff and screen plays.

Sanchez is a rookie and the jets dont have the WR tandem like the bills. The patriots will probally use stunts and run blitzes to stop the jets running game and put pressure on sanchez.

Jones had done basically nothing until the last two drives against a beaten Texans defense.

Look, I understand that you're a Jets fan. I'll give you the same advice I give to Patriots fans. When it comes to the Koolaid, take sips and not chugs. Sanchez did not play well last night, and he did not play poorly. He played like a first-time quarterback. Had the Texans not stunk out the joint, they could have had 4 or more interceptions.

Did you actually watch the game or do you just enjoy embellishing things? Sanchez threw the one actual INT, one clean dropped pick, and the only other one was the throw that Washington broke up. At best they could have had 2 more picks, only one of which I would call an "easy INT."

Only a complete Jets hater/Pats homer would say Sanchez didn't play well.

BTW, as bad as Houston's defense may be, they still were the 3rd ranked offense in the league last year. So whether or not you like Schaub, he was still a part of a very successful unit, one consisting of the top WR in the game(who was shut down by the top CB in the game). Any way you slice it, the Jets defense looked very impressive and should be one of the top units in the game this season.

Sunday will in no way be a cake walk for the Pats.

As I pointed out in another thread:

I saw a very composed rookie QB who dealt with the pressure he felt at times and was able to find open targets to avoid sacks. He missed some open receivers (didn't even see them) and threw an INT because he didn't put enough on a ball that was thrown to a wide open player who would have turned the play into a huge gain. He also was not afraid to stand in the pocket when he was given time to throw.

On the negative side, he threw too many incomplete passes, and, all told, could have had 3 or 4 INTs.

He isn't a top QB today and he looks like a rookie, but on Sunday he looked like a good rookie. Of course people are going to blind themselves to the realities of both teams' shortcomings. But that's because alot of fans don't understand the game in enough depth to take a realistic approach.

I'm pretty sure that a Jets fan who comes over to this boards would not be considered a Patriots homer. Now, run along little troll.

**** me there's a lot of new Jets registered posters around here. Must be that time of year again

As I pointed out in another thread:

Don't trolls talk trash about the opposing team? I'm just calling you out on your extreme homerism. Just because one Jet fan came here trying to become the cool Jet-poster on a Patriots web-site doesn't mean his analysis is the be-all, end-all. Sanchez played very well. Did he play as well as he could have? No, but that doesn't mean he didn't have a pretty damn good game. Show me a rookie who has performed as well as he did on 3rd downs in one game. Not to mention the kid's FIRST career game. It's hard not to see something special from a performance like that.

I can't wait for sunday... It will be fun seeing what kind of excuses you can concoct(there, now at least I can somewhat live up to your billing of being a troll).

If you think I'm an extreme homer, you clearly don't read my posts. I'd suggest you start with these, since they involve the Jets:

Don't be just another fan who can't handle a little honest critiquing of your team's players. It's boring and accomplishes nothing.

I think that the Jets are a fantastic defensive football team. I think that Jenkins is in the #1 nose in the national football league conversation. I think that Revis is the best young corner in the league, likely a top three corner. I like Kerry Rhodes, I like David Harris, I like Bart Scott, and I think that Pace is going to be dirty in this scheme when he comes back. Nevermind getting Ellis back as well.

I think that they are playing with a sound defensive scheme that looks like it is the balls to play in. I think that the confusion is overhyped, as you pretty much know you are getting something coming from somewhere and they are going to try to disguise their Mike. I also think that they leave a whole bunch of field open with how they play, and that Jim Leonard is no Doug Plank. I think that they are highly vulnerable to slants, and their inside pass defense leaves a lot to be desired. I think that they are going to bring a lot of pressure, but that pressure is going to be easily exploited by a player on the level of 12.

I think that the offense revolves around #29. I think that he is going to give the Patriots fits unless their pursuit has jet packs in their pads. He is shifty, nimble, has exceptional footwork, and has more balance than it seems. Fantastic back. I think that Thomas Jones is a decent back, but is generally more impressive in a compression shirt than he is in pads. He is overhyped. He will quit on the leg drive if his momentum is stoned, the key is to get under his pad level- which is exceptional. His hips aren't what they used to be and if bottled up, he will be a non-issue. He has excellent burst for a guy his size, and the key is to stone his initial momentum as he accelerates through the hole. He is a patient runner, and if he can be hit inside of his first three power steps, he is done. They key to stopping him is getting your pads into his hips, wrap up his legs, lift up on the hammies, and explode through the contact. Power on power, I like the Pats.

On the QB front, let's see Sanchez play a legit defense and handle some adversity before we crown him the next coming. Take away Keller, double Washington, pressure through the A gap, and let's see if he's got some touch, accuracy, and more importantly a set of nuts on him. Show him classic cover two and switch into check-2 man under taking away the horizontal stretch routes. Force him into making difficult throws, force him to go hot, and most importantly, keep the outside rush from getting too far upfield (specifically to the right side of the formation) and keep him in the pocket.

Ultimately, I think that they are a solid team with some flaws; both schematically and in personnel. They present a difficult matchup, specifically defensively and with Leon Washington. I think that it will be a good game, but don't see this team being familiar enough in their scheme yet to be able to execute well enough to beat NE.

Great post here. I think the Jets offense can exploit some of the vulnerabilities of the Pats defense, but I also think the Jets defense is going to have trouble stopping Brady and co.

Haha, right, right...forgot. Rex Ryan is one cheeseburger away from cardiac arrest with a homosexual oedipal complex for his father (is that even possible, by the way?). Tha Pats ah gonna drop loike eh-tea fahkin points on 'em kid. No contest, dood.

Sunday will in no way be a cake walk for the Pats.

Sanchez had an up and down day. The guy only completed 58.1% of his passes. Yes, he was great on third downs, not so much on other downs. He had a very good first game considering he is a rookie playing his first NFL game. If he was a veteran QB, it would have been an unimpressive performance.

As for the Houston game, I felt the Texans made no adjustments for the Jets defense and really didn't do anything to take advantage of the Jets' aggressiveness. The Pats will.

BTW, the Pats were the best offense for the second half of the season last year with Cassel. So they are even better with Brady and better than the Texans' offense.

I don't think it will be a cakewalk, but I think the Pats will play the Jets far better than the Texans did.

It is TECHNICALLY possible if his father was gay.........and with a name like "Buddy".......

I think those that hate the Jets are going to be biased in their opinion saying the Texans are no so good,Schaub sucks ect:

The bottom line is the Jets sent a rookie QB on the road playing against one of the best DL in Mario and he played well, the OL played superb, the Defense was lights out.

Lets stop the biased childish crap and just be man enough to say that they played very well and won convincingly and will be a good challenge next week ,o.k.?

LOL The Texans aren't very good and their problems seem to supercede talent. Someone commented this week that the Texans should have been quite familiar with Baltimore's D yet they game planned as if they expected Mangini's or Edwards... And Shaub is toast. It was written all over his face almost from the opening kick. He's so afraid of losing his starters career to injury that he's defeated, dispirited, beaten. If you watch his demeanor he just exudes defeat. Hurt his ankle again about a week ago. He sees his career slipping away. And probably Kubiak's as well. They were pressuring Sanchez on every down but third. And then watching him convert like it was scrimmage. All game. He made several bad decisions/throws but either Houston couldn't capitalize or his gutsy receivers bailed him out. I worry more about them than him 'cause they always give us fits.

I agree with pretty much all of this except the comfortability in the defensive scheme portion. THe defense needs the least amount of work, it is the offense that has the most room for improvement. Rex has added a raven in each line of defense, Douglas on the DL, Scott in the LBs and Leonhard in the secondary, theyve done a terrific job of bring the rest of the Jets up to speed. They have had plenty of time to get used to the defense, and I think they showed that they have a good hold of it in week one. Now dont say, "its the texans yada yada yada" for any defense to work that well together on opening day is good news and should put any doubts to rest concerning their getting used to the schemes, especially against an offense that ranked 3rd overall last yr.

In regards to thomas jones, his weakness is getting stopped before he gets a head of steam. If the pats cant give him a good pop at the line, they'll manage to keep him to low yardage. But the worst case scenario for them is if they allow jones to get past the DL, and get his legs moving, not to mention his stiff arm, which is like getting hit with a lance. ( have you seen his arms? lol)

The loss of mayo is really going to hurt the patriots, it opens up the short screen/dump pass to the quick leon washington who without the skill and speed of mayo, will be able to break free for large gains more offten than not.

Hell of a post. One small disagreement - I don't think the Jets lose because of lack of familiarity with the scheme on defense. I think they lose because the offense isn't quite there yet - Sanchez will be very good, but he's still a rookie, and they don't have a gamebreaking WR. But we'll see.

Thoughts on the Jets?

Well, I'm not particularly fond of the shade of green they wear. I think it's a rather girlie girl colour scheme, and should have little pink Leprechaun tights instead of socks. The old school "Titans" uniforms fit better for them, but that's just me.

As to their rookie QB, "Sunkist", I'd say he got lucky last week. Let's see how he plays against a top-tier team that changes their scheme like a chameleon changes colours.

I expect the Jets to put some points on the board. However, I expect the Patriots to put more points on the board, and come away with the "W".

Ill agree with this, if the Jets lose, it will be because the offense failed to produce enough TD's I can see them marching down the field and settling on a few field goals.

Also which no one has mentioned yet, Im concerned that penalites are going to hurt them big time. The Jets are going to be extremely aggressive, I would not be surprised by several roughing the passer calls. Then again I think Rex is the kind of coach that will sacrifice penalites for big hits.
