Now that I think about it, this strikes me as a rather odd thing to say:

"He told me stay versatile, do as much as I can do, because with the Patriots I won't know how they're going to use me until I get there, and even then, it could switch halfway through the season," Barwin said.

Think about this for a second. . . . what the heck is he going to do between now and July? How would he possibly become un-versatile?

Maybe that message also included "And make sure you sign a three-year contract, so we can get you as an RFA three years from now"?

It's over, the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor and President Carter surrendered to the Vatican's Navy. Put on your burka and go milk the goats.

Perhaps that was a nice way of saying "you don't really fit here."

Maybe he meant "Houston will play you at DE, but keep your TE and basketball skills up that will help you play in space, so that when I sign you in 4 years you can make the transition to OLB easier".

Barwin? What does a geneticist have to do with football?

It's over for now. Wait till he does something good with his career, then BB will just sign him as a veteran free agent.

You're being a real killjoy today with all this "over for now" stuff - first Peppers, now Barwin.

Barwin was bad enough, because at least Brace was drafted - though I still would've drafted Barwin. But passing on Sidbury for Rich Effin Ohrnburger? Effin disgraceful.

What is disgraceful is your analysis. Belichick decided NOT to wait until 124 to draft his linebacker. He chose McKenzie over Sidbury at 97. Every GM in the league passed on Sidbury who was indeed drafted right after Ohrenberger. Belichick and Gosselin rated Ohrenberger as one of the top OL's in the draft. Gosselin had Ohrenberger as the #80 player in the draft. We needed a guard. You wanted another linebacker (as many of us did) and particularly Sidbury.

In the end, you think that you are smarter than all the GM's in the league and certainly smarter that Belichick. Such a obnoxious view of oneself is occasionally useful in life. I wish you luck. If you draft analysis is a representation of the quality of your analysis, you'll need it.
