DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION The official: Day 2 Patriots Draft Thread

Highly doubt it with all the Free Agents next season.

My thinking is:

A. Belichick is very high on Crable.
B. There really was noone in this draft that BB thought could play LB for the Patriots that warranted a high pick.
C. Maybe Jason Taylor is a very real possibility for the Patriots

Must admit I was disappointed like many that we didn't tab a Barwin or E Brown to play OLB for the Pats. Woke up this morning and tried rational thinking and this is what I came up with.

Thomas is going to be 32 this season. So, adding Peppers who is 3 years younger wouldn't be a bad thing. It gives the Pats even more versatility. And if they can ship say a Jarvis Green and a Pierre Woods along with a 2nd round pick, then the deal helps both teams.

Seriously, I am so glad that those people aren't here complaining about the Patriots not drafting a pass rusher yet.

Now, I will say that I am surprised the Pats didn't go for Liugs or another inside lineman. But, then, they do have Yates, Hochstein, Connolly, Johnson, and Wendell behind Koppen, Neal and Mankins. Hmm.. That still scares me.. But Johnson could be intriguing.

I'd have to think that they're going to draft an interior o-lineman with one of their remaining picks...

Thomas is going to be 32 this season. So, adding Peppers who is 3 years younger wouldn't be a bad thing. It gives the Pats even more versatility. And if they can ship say a Jarvis Green and a Pierre Woods along with a 2nd round pick, then the deal helps both teams.

If I was the Panthers I could definately get on board with that. Why Jarvis Green didn't test the free agent waters is beyond me. I always wondered if he undervalues himself, but imo he could start for most teams. Throw in Pierre Woods who I think would be a reall good 4-3 LB to team up with Beason and you got yourself a more complete defense with a 2nd rounder daboot.

I like Crable's quickness and athleticism. Who knows? My prediction-they get a FA, Peppers, Taylor or somebody.

Jamon Meredith and Lydon Myrtha are G/Ts that the Pats could look at.

A guy the Pats could look at is the TCU center, Blake Schleuter. They could also look at A.Q. Shipley from Penn State or Anthony Parker from Tennessee.

I agree, our overall defense was ranked 10th but that 3rd down defense was porous. A pass rush will be addressed in some fashion. BB either see's something we can't or he has a free agent up his sleeve.

I agree. I've been saying all along that they'll take a QB late. We'll see what happens.

Although this makes snese, I’ll admit that I would hate to see Green leave. He’s made some big plays for us, specifically against the Colts where he’s constantly in Manning’s grill. However, if it means bringing in the athleticism and versatility that is JP, then I’m all for it. I’m still a little upset with Woods for letting the fumble get ripped from his clutches in the “Game that shall remain nameless,” so they can get rid of him.

You missed listing TBC and Rudd who was drafted as an ILB in '08 and IRed. I think BB has faith in these kids; I hope it's warranted.

In selecting South Florida linebacker Tyrone McKenzie with the 97th overall selection, the Patriots landed a player with one of the most inspirational stories in the draft.

McKenzie played at three colleges, and after his mother was left unable to work by injuries suffered in an accident, he left school and was working from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. at a Hampton Inn to support her and his three sisters.

From a pure football standpoint, McKenzie (6-1, 243) projects to inside linebacker in the Patriots' 3-4 scheme. The team has starters Tedy Bruschi (contract through 2009) and Jerod Mayo (2012) returning, with Gary Guyton (2009) the top backup. Bo Ruud, a 2008 sixth-round pick who spent all of last year on season-ending injured reserve, is also in the mix.

With the selection of McKenzie, the Patriots are likely thinking about Bruschi nearing the end of his career and developing a possible youngster to assume that spot -- or compete with Guyton and Ruud for that spot -- in the future.
