The April 8 Path to the Draft program caught people's attention for Mayock stating Robert Ayers would be the best defensive player in this draft when they look back in three years; however, there was also a discussion on the Top Five DEs. The discussion was noteworthy for Charlie Casserly's list, which included the prospect who-must-not-be-named-lest-the-very-mention-of-his-name-lead-to-riots-and-other-civil-unrest as his #5 DE. Casserly is not the most reliable source for identifying 3-4 OLB prospects, but his record on DEs is much healthier. He of course insists the nameless one is a third round value, but was also quite certain this nameless prospect would be drafted much higher due to the premium on pass rushers - Charlie was rather complementary on the lad's pass rushing prowess. Per Athlon Sports, an average of four defensive ends are drafted in round one and nine drafted in the first three rounds. Casserly's ranking is consistent with NFL Draft Scout's ranking of #31, which they consider a late first/early second selection. The #34 people may rejoice to know they are partnered with Charlie Casserly. I of course, remain adamant that the young gentleman is best selected with the #23 pick to ensure he wears NE colors for the foreseeable future.
