I still think Tarvaris Jackson is their "project" player. He honestly didn't look awful today (like he did at the beginning of the season) but he didn't look great either. There are a few more teams out there that I think would have interest in Cassel before the Vikings.

The project is over, I believe, they're wasting good years of this team. Minnesota and Tampa Bay, and to a lesser extent Chicago, should be all over Cassel.

They SHOULD be interested in Cassel (IMO). They are a solid team that appears to be a good QB away from being a legit contender.

I still think that we end up with Detriot's 2nd rounder (pick 33?). If they're smart they get a stud tackle at 1, draft the best defensive player possible with their second 1st round pick, get a proven QB through trade and then go defense the rest of the way. They have some pieces and I think could win 8 or 9 games next year with these moves.

I don't doubt that Detriot goes in that direction but I reserve the right to disagree with them

If I'm running that horrible franchise and want to turn it around as quickly as possible, with as little "risk" as possible, I go with Cassel for a second. I don't know the stats, but I'm guessing there are a lot more QB busts at the top of the draft, then OL busts.

I agree with these teams, as well as San Francisco, Seattle (Hasselback's health pending), and perhaps even Jacksonville. The good part is that most of those teams are in the NFC, minimizing the chance at year to year damage to the Patriots.

I totally agree with this reasoning. I hope that there's a bidding war for Cassel, but realistically Detroit has the most room with 2 1st round picks and the first pick in the 2nd (#33). I could see franchising Cassel and trading him for #33 and a conditional pick in 2010. This would by far be the quickest way for Detroit to regain respectability. Add in an OT and a pass rushing DL and they would be quite competitive. Miami and Atlanta are proof that teams can turn around fast. Plus throwing to Calvin Johnson would be a nice consolation for not having Randy Moss any more.

If we had #24, #33, #44, and number #57 (I think) plus our 3rd round pick and a 3rd round comp pick for Asante, we would be in amazing shape. The way this draft is shaping up, there will be a fair amount of first round talent available in the second round.

It's terrible to look at a QB very early in his career and draw a conclusion, but I will. In fact, it's the same conclusion that I drew about Donovan years ago. There are QB's who, properly managed, will always let you be competitive, but who will never take you all the way. This guy is one of them.

Why do I say that? I really don't know. But, I've felt that way about many good QB's, like Chad and Jaworski to name just two others. Just my gut, which could be very wrong.

The funny thing is that neither Chicago or Minnesota will be

What's holding the Vikings back in Childress. The guy has the technical genius of a watermelon. He really does call some of the most bizarre plays in a stretch you can see week in week out.
