Maybe we can trade Chad Johnson and Ed Reed for Adrian Peterson. We have the same rights to them that we have to Matt Cassel as of the end of the season.

I just almost fell off the couch with laughter.

Why on earth would the vikes give up the best running back in the NFL.
Because if you line up 8 in the box you can stop the best running back in the NFL.

But with Cassel you can franchise him and then trade him before week 6 of the NFL trading deadline, cant you cut him also?
this team is not going to the super bowl. sorry, but they are not. i am one of the biggest fans of this team, but i can not see this team in the super bowl.
Other than the Titans, I dont see any other teams in the AFC that the patriots cant beat.
You think they are going to pay a back-up QB who will likely never see the field once TB gets back that kind of scratch? Especially when we will have O'Connel on the roster with a year under his belt in the system, and the option of bringing in another vet (Huard maybe) to hold things down for a couple of games IF NEEDED? Seriously?
They can always cut Cassel cant they? Whats the Cap penalty for a franchise player, if you cut him?

If you're truly a patriots fan, then why would you get upset at the possibility of the patriots getting as much benefit as possible out of this Cassel-Brady QB situation? Unless you're a fake, patriots fan who cringes at the thought of the patriots benefiting from Cassel. Wait!! if you're a writter for a news paper and you take your journalistic judgemental skills so seriously in and out of work then I can understand.

I know a lot of people roll their eyes when they see a thread like this, but lets play the "what if" card for fun:

What if Cassel plays like he did in the second half of the Jets game the rest of the way? He was making the correct reads, going through his progression and threw the ball extremely well. Aside from the long passes (which I blame on timing more than anything) Cassel was money. He even is mobile enough that teams must not completely ignore him otherwise he can run for good yardage. Seriously, if he plays like that the rest of the way, he is a Pro-Bowler. So why wouldn't a team be interested in him even if we franchise him? So many teams out there need QBs.

It's not an impossible scenario. Well, the trade to Minnesota is impossible, not gonna happen. But I'm talking about it's not impossible for him to play well enough to force the Pats to franchise him and then trade him.

What about if Patriots win the Super Bowl with Cassel throwing for 350+ and running for 50+, then the Patriots sign him long term for something like 6M a year; then trade Brady. I mean Cassel has taken 10 games worth of hits in 8 years so he is as fresh as a 19 year old.

Or not.

Sure they can cut him... and they'd only be responsible for a portion of his $11 million salary and salary cap hit.

Care to take a guess what percentage they'd be responsible for?

Here's a hint - its a three figure percentage.

At the beginning of the Jets game Pats fans were cursing Cassel, he ends up having a great game, and now he's going to lead the 6-4 outside looking in at a playoff spot Pats to the SB?

The guy had a great game, but he's an average QB. At best he's a Matt Shaub or Scott Mitchell.

Marshall Faulk already beat you to this genius idea on Thursday night's pre-game show.

That is the most rediculous proposed trade I everheard of. Peterson and three draft picks might get you Cassel.

Period.

Who wants another short career RB? Especially when you have six already?

I would consider Kevin Williams, and one of Mckinnie or Hutchinson, then I might be interested.

yeah right. AP for Cassel? I'm sure the Vikes would go for that.

Those picks would be first rounders, of course....
