Quick D analysis (based on Reiss)

Reiss has the numbers.

A couple of highlights:
  • Meriweather and Sanders go wire to wire (66 snaps), Thomas all but one snap.
  • Mayo gets 53 snaps, Guyton 25.
  • Totals: 145 S snaps, 160 CB snaps; 245 LB snaps; 175 DL snaps.
  • Averages: 2.2 S, 2.4 CB, 3.7 LB, 2.7 DL
  • Best guess as to coverage: mostly standard 3-4 with some nickel (extra CB) thrown in.

One thing that intrigues me about James Sanders is he was known as Big Hitter in the College rank's. A guys who lays the lumber on opposing WR's. Funny how in the Pros he is more a coverage play back type.:confused2:

One of my favorite weekly things from Reiss, the defensive snaps.

Highlights:

Meriweather and Sanders played all the snaps.

AD played every snap save for one, which turned out to be a 35 yard pass completion.

Big Sey had his high number of snaps for the year. Reiss notes that he was involved in the sub packages and wreaked havoc. I think its worth of note that its slightly misleading to insinuate Seymour hasn't been a part of the subpackages up until now - he has, he's been a big part in the rotation, only with Green out, the rotation has tightened. Sey responded with a monster game.

For reference, Sey's snaps:

vs. KC - 51/63
vs. NYJ - 38/50
vs. Miami - 43/57
vs. SF - 27/50 (team used the speed package w Green as only DL)
vs. SD - 48/59
vs. Den - 38/60

So, he's been playing in subpackages all along, but he's getting more snaps now b/c of Green's absence, and the affect that has had on the rotation.

Mayo (53/66) is again playing nearly all the snaps. The only package I noticed him coming out for was the dime at the end of the game, he came off for the extra DB. He has looked better in coverage the last couple weeks, he's largely getting the task of covering the RB, but I noticed he had some good coverage on an incomplete pass to a TE on Sunday.

Bruschi had his most snaps in a while (40/66) and I also thought it was by far his best game of the season. As others have mentioned, its worth noting it looked like the Rams were running in his direction for whatever reason, not necessarily to run at him, but to the strong side. I might check the DVR to see if that's the case, and if that played a role in his production and big game.

Richardson got an awful lot of snaps. For a guy who just got off the PS, that shows the team has confidence in him.

Guyton again got quality snaps (25), and I believe he was the lone ILB on the field in the dime package to end the game, and it looked like the team was having him rush the passer a lot. With his size and speed, he could be a factor in that role.
