Should we tank this year?

No one wants to address the inept Matt Cassel facts, it's fruitless, just focus on the crap-a@@ defense we saw yesterday. This is Patriot-ville, Matt Cassel is going to lead this team to Tampa, couldn't you tell that from his performance yesterday and over the last 4 years when he has played?

Well ,clearly B.B. should hire you. He should hire "briz" while he's at it.

just a thought. Going deep into the depths of my analysis ive come to the conclusion that we probably wont win the SB this year without Brady. Next logical thing to do to strenthen the team is to tank and get a top 10 pick in the draft. Rey Maualuga would look awefully nice next to Mayo next year. Or Malcolm Jenkins at corner would be orgasmic.

You've become a caricature of yourself as a poster. These threads are just absurd, stop with the nonsense.

You'll get beat up for this, but this team is an all or nothing team. Losing the SB last year didn't really make any of us feel any better than if they'd gone winless. Either way, the season was a horrible failure and emotionally sickening. No one wants to watch games from last year, and that would be the case if we'd gone winless, too.

So, this team really has two options: win it all this year or get a very high pick. Those are the only two ways that this season could be a success. If someone told me they were from the future and they knew we'd not win the SB, I'd sign up for no more wins right away. At least a high draft pick (assuming we choose wisely) is some kind of lemonade, given our lemons. There is no other source of lemonade for this team if they can't win it all.

Again, like I said, no one wants to address the ineptness of Matt Cassel. Thanks for proving my point.

Let's just pull the cover over our eyes and ignore the 4 balls that should have been picked off yesterday and the one that was to kill a drive.

Let's ignore all the crap throws we witnessed yesterday, the happy feet, the lost fumble, the deer in the headlights look, mis-reads, guys wide open all over the field and Matt like usual staring down the primary WR who was usually covered. They even pointed it out yesterday how David Thomas was so wide open down the seam yet Cassel had no idea, no clue, no ability to scan a field and run his checkdowns. He can't even throw a freakin screen pass, 1 of his screens was picked 2 or 3 others were batted down. I'm sure there were countless other situations of guys running free and Matt having no idea.

His passes flutter and float. All of them. There's no zip, no tight spiral.

He'll be on the pine by week 5 and Patriot-ville will be able to drop the koolaid and admit that he can't play in this league. But for now people can keep the blinders on and blame the defense, which played great btw the first two weeks to win the games. It will be corrected by BB, that you know. Matt Cassel, IMO, cannot be corrected. Time will prove that out.

Nah, I'm never gonna give up on the team....but I've lost all hope in the QB.

Definately something goin on there.
Roomates in the same nut-house maybe.
Or the same junior high study hall.

I think they take the same bus to school.

You know, the one that's not long.

LeKevin had a sack in the superbowl?! Holy smokes lets put him in the HOF!

You shouldnt be talking smack to anyone with a LeKevin Smith signature. Heres a clue dude, hes a scrub.

I thought it was pretty cool. Not many players get a sack in the Superbowl. I know for sure that CJ didn't do a damn thing in the game.

Can you and Brady to moss go away?

Or maybe switch your avatars to players that are actually on the Pats?
One of you has CJ, the other DRC. Neither of which are Patriots

very very strange.

you both come across as "fans" who started watching this team in 2004, and now all you are doing is whining and repeating yourselves.

Keegs, does this look familiar?

It's a nice knee jerk question to ask. The problem I have with tanking is that losing will take a huge toll on the players mentally and that will carry over to the following year. Players won't be as motivated, coaches won't have as much respect from their players and it would be a huge mess. Keep in mind the young players are still learning and trying to improve on a week to week basis. I think that's the goal right now, seeing the young guys gel on the field. It's a lifelong learning thing, the scary thing is regressing and building a hole that's hard to climb out of. Don't think one bad year won't effect the next year. It will. If the Pats go 5-11, it's very hard to motivate yourself in the offseason that you can be the best team in the league, even if Brady comes back. If the Pats make the playoffs and go 10-6, I think the fire will still burn inside the players to make a run at the SB in 2009 when Brady comes back.

this must be the thread of the year

yes, if you cant win the Super Bowl, then go 1-15. thats what its all about

maybe the other cities are right about Patriot fans.

I think people are just letting there emotions get the best of them.. People are upset so they seem to be thinking irrationally, when we beat San Fran then the Chargers everyone will be loving Cassel again

I think the only tanking needed is for "BRiZ" to tank middle school so that he gets grounded and mommy takes away his internet access.

Briz, that is stupid.

Sorry.

ummmm that really doesn't apply to anything i've said.

No ? I thought so, let me explain it to you.....

It's in reference to you having an issue with anything negative being mentioned about this football team. You can't seem to come to grips with that. We're fans, if we see something we're unhappy with, be it the stinky play of Matt Cassel yesterday or the fact that BriZ and I can't believe they kept the likes of (Sam Aiken, CJ Jones and Kelley Washington - non factors that they are) over a guy like Chad Jackson, who Briz and I feel if given a chance in this league will show his worth, that's our opinion. You're a KoolAid drinker, a homer, tell us how you felt Matt Cassel played yesterday, can you do that, or is that just too hard to do?

I thought Cassel suc*ed and this team is going no where with him behind center.

Are you serious? Kelley Washington have been nothing short of amazing on this team? He's made numerous OUTSTANDING plays on special teams, which is significantly more than Chad J. can say he did. The fact is this:

CJ was given a chance for 3 years and he did nothing with it. He could NEVER get in line with the QBs, be it Brady or Cassel.

And I'll hold you to that. YOu say thi team isn't going anywhere with Cassel. I say they make the playoffs, and that's significantly more than most teams can do. True, many of us may be homers, but you sir may simply be a bandwagon fan who cannot look at any game or performance in perspective.

This is the sort of lies coming out of people who have no understanding of the game. No one is saying that Cassel is going to lead this team to Tampa. What you and your chum Briz are missing is that Cassel, though lousy yesterday, wasn't the main problem. The play of the O-line and D-line were.

Maybe when you learn something about the game, because you continue to show you don't know jack about it, you'll understand that if the O-line isn't doing its job, its impossible for the QB or the RBs to do their jobs.

People like YOURSELF don't understand the idea of "ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS". People like yourself jump let your biases control your actions and you jump at the firtst thing you think you see as being the issue. A perfect example is you jumping all over Cassel's play yesterday. I have news for your binkie, Tommy Terrific, could have been back there and the Pats would have been slaughtered. Why? Because the O-line wasn't giving the QB adequate protection. I lost track of how many times Koppen or Yates got pushed back into the pocket and made it impossible for Cassel to step into his throws or move around the pocket. I lost track of the number of times that Matt Roth or Joey Porter were within 2 yards of Cassel before the end of the play.

People like you don't understand that people like myself and MoLewis and others aren't saying that Cassel is the greatest by pointing out that there are bigger issues. You think its black or white. You think its Cassel is Great or Cassel Sucks. I have news for you. There are many different degrees in there and its your being blind that is keeping people like yourself and Briz from having a better understanding of the game.

I'm a bandwagon fan huh ? You have no idea who I am. I sat on those cold bleacher benches all through the early ugly 90's with seasons tickets prior to Tuna arriving, went to every game. I also went to the freakin Superbowl in 86 down in NO against the Bears. Don't call me a bandwagon fan, get your facts straight. I'm a dedicated fan, but what I'm not is a freakin homer and I call it like it is.

Sorry, I can't get over the ridiculousness of this thread.

So, someone should tell the other 52 players - who make about $100 mill + combined, many who have earned SB rings, many who have earned Pro Bowl status, etc., etc. - to "tank" the season, so that we get a slightly higher draft position, that will give us a just barely slightly better chance at adding a better player onto this team than we would have later in round 1, with much, much greater financial risk involved.

I don't mean to be inflammatory, but that could be one of the stupidest suggestions I've heard. In my entire life.
