I think it might be. We have a seemingly easy schedule next year and don't necessarily require alot of talent to win the division. Ofcourse we'll try to win the Superbowl but we've been successful in the playoffs before with lesser teams. I think we're gonna see alot of our older players go this offseason and it will probably be pretty depressing. I also think we may lose alot of the big names. This league is obsessed with parity so we couldn't expect to maintain a team this good for an extended period. Hopefully we'll retain Moss but I've got a feeling that some of our recievers will be gone.

This may be early but I predict we'll go a healthy 12-4, allowing we lose to the Colts, Broncos, and two others. That's more than a head start for Brady in the playoffs.

Usually rebuilding is when the team needs a complete overhaul. I would consider it more of a reloading season.

I think people are crazy to think that an 18-1 team needs rebuilding. the superbowl win for the giants was luck pure F'n LUCK.

They kicked our a**. Having said that, we need a couple playmakers on D and should consider upgrading OL. I wouldn't call that "rebuilding."

Our team is getting old. If we don't start getting younger players, they'll all retire around the same time and then where will we be? But I agree, reloading is more appropriate.

At worst the Patriots will finish 14-2. No way do the Patriots lose to the Broncos in 2008. If you haven't noticed, the Broncos defense stinks.

We have a few older players that will need to be replaced in a year or two, but that doesn't mean we have to go into rebuilding mode. We can slowly groom their replacements and/or add a few free agents here and there to fill in. Vrabel, Colvin, and Thomas are three older players on defense and all can play three to four more years. Only Seau, Bruschi, and possibly Harrison are close to retirement.

    1. They're only a few weeks removed from one of the best offensive seasons in history.
Pats will probably only lose Stallworth out of the group.
Morris will be back, CJ will get a shot, everyone else will be in year 2 of working together as a unit.
(it took Seyton several years with his group to amass records, it took Brady & co 1/2 of a pre season.)

    2. The o-line needs a tweak or 2, not a major overhaul.

    3. The defense is not old. The heart of the defense is older, and that is one of the pressing needs that should be addressed this off season.
Colvin will hopefully be back. AdT will be in year 2 of working in BB's system, and Vrabel's still got plenty left.

The secondary is still a major concern, as it has been for some time now.
Asante is leaving for the money, and our other cb's are merely serviceable in the scheme BB runs.

Imho, this team is 4 players away from smashing most teams to pieces next season.

You should have better information on your question in about a week.

How many of the Pats' wide receivers are going to re-sign? Moss, Gaffney,

Stallworth, and Washington are all free agents. If all of them leave, wide

receiver will join cornerback as a pressing need.

At the present time, at cornerback only Hobbs, Mixon, Richardson, and

Spann are under contract. Will the Pats re-sign Gay and Scott for

damage control when Asante gets his big pay day? Can rookie

    cornerbacks start right away?

We may also find out Tedy Bruschi's intentions soon. If he returns, it

will buy the Pats a little time. Will the Pats restructure or cut

Rosevelt Colvin? If both players leave, linebacker also becomes a concern.

My point is that it is too early to tell whether the Pats will have to rebuild

or simply patch a few holes. It is certain that there will be new faces

at cornerback. Let's hope Dom Capers lives up to his reputation

    tutoring them.

No offense, but honestly how dumb can you be? We went 18-1 this year with 97 year old Middle Line Backers. Not to mention putting together the greatest offense ever seen in the history of the NFL. Relax the sky isn't falling.

    #24 Jersey

In a word no, this will not be a rebuilding year.

They will be competing for a SB...as last year proved there are no guarentees but even without FA and the draft this team is still ready to compete and BB will fill what we lose and prolly somehow improve, so I would be ready for more great things to come.

    #12 Jersey

    Rodney -> Merriweather
Bruschi, Seau -> Return of Rosey will allow both to have lighter roles next year

Who else is old on this team? I think we're fine, and dont forget we have the #7 overall pick.

On offense the following New England Patriots will be retained for the 2008 NFL season:

    wide receiver Randy Moss
    wide receiver Jabar Gaffney
and possibly wide receiver Kelley Washington (if the price is right)

The New England Patriots will focus on defense in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Well if a team loses up to 3 more games than the previous season and that is your definition of "rebuilding", the answer may be yes.
