Belichick talked about this a while back. He's not as focused on distance as so many posters here seem to be. If you take a look at the returns:
2009: 20
2008: 11
2007: 14
you see where the Belichick focus seems to be. As I recall, Belichick said something along the lines of being willing to give up yards in order to increase hang time to help in coverage. I doubt the raw number net from the past season is acceptable to the team, and the number returned certainly spiked up a bit, but I'd guess that the team would look further into the numbers to see if they really tell the whole story. A lot of kicks around midfield will result in a lower average, for example, so I'd expect the team to do a thorough analysis before making a move at the position.
I just don't think BB is looking at the position in the same way that most people do.
Well when you put it like that...
...it seems perfectly reasonable. Thanks.
The UFA of the team that is flying under the radar.
Is he worth keeping?
Personally I would look elsewhere, its not the hardest position to fill and the Pats have a lot of other signing needs to take care of first.
I think it is a hard position to fill when you have a good one, which is not a "burden" the Patriots have. They should not have any trouble upgrading. The UFA of the team that is flying under the radar.

Sign Sam Koch. Say goodbye to Hanson. BTW how did that Morstead guy look pulling off that huge onside kick for the Saints? Punters are always underrated until they pull off a key play that makes you remember why teams have punters. I would have loved to have drafted Morstead with our late 4th but the Saints won the SB with him so I think it was just destiny. Hanson is one of the worst punters in the league statwise, let's move on PLEASE. Give me a guy with the leg of a Scifres, and we're talking about MAJOR field position advantage!
So the "best" punter is on Oakland and he had 63 punts returned (most).
The "worst" punter was on NE and he had 20 punts returned (least).
Strongest element in the NFLPA.Punt returners have one hell of a lobby.

Mmmm.....
I'd prefer he stick to finding perverts.
Are you lost again? :ugh:I'd prefer he stick to finding perverts.
Worst ( statistically ) punter in the league. Move on.
