It's easy, and only takes a few moments.Freed up $14M plus whatever Vrabel is making for a pick two slots out of the first round, the kind of pick that NE covets. This is for an aging linebacker and our backup quarterback.
How is that not a good trade?
Not a good trade if true. Many of us were hoping for a #1 for Cassel (or even Peppers). If we get a #2 for Cassel AND Vrabel, that's a poor trade. Though there is a big caveat here, it does free up a lot of cap space, and maybe we can get our FA's and some UFA's signed. IF we don't invest that cap space on positions we need, it's a really bad trade. Of course, the draft always brings some goodies, and having a #1 and three #2's will make the draft interesting.
It's a good trade in that the Patriots are now in better shape than they were a day ago with $18M more in cap space freed up and the 34th pick, but I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest more value was expected to be coming back in a Cassel deal.Freed up $14M plus whatever Vrabel is making for a pick two slots out of the first round, the kind of pick that NE covets. No, we didn't get jabbed.
Especially since 90% of the people wanted this guy cut in pre-season. Now we have three 2nd round picks in a VERY deep draft class. We dump a lot of $ as well. Gives us room to make more moves as well. You gotta remember, Belichick isn't really big on drafting in the top 5-10. Belichick knows what he is doing.
So, is it possible that KC doesn't want Vrabel, and taking his contract was part of the deal ... and they will be releasing him in the coming days?

Because we're not done yet. The cap room and the #34 pick will more than replace Vrabel, for the long term (whereas Vrabel was 34 and in the last year of his contract).Yes, BUT - Our defense just got WORSE - if thats even possible - how is this a GREAT trade?
