What does that have to do with whether the Texans picked a TE in the 3rd round because a team they may want to make a trade with likes him? You are reaching far.
Absolutely nothing! I never linked them drafting Fedorowicz to this particular point. Not reaching at all. I never made that point. I am saying that the Texans are not necessarily going to anoint Mallett as the starter if they trade for him especially if they drafted Garoppolo with the third round pick.
In your scenario Mallett was being traded on draft day for an opportunity to start, and a 3rd round pick was on the table, and he said I won't extend my contract, because you can trade a pick next year for me. Thats just silly.
In my scenario, Mallett was being traded for THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPETE FOR A STARTING JOB. I never said the third round pick was on the table. I am saying the Texans were going to use that third round pick on Garoppolo. I am saying once he was gone, that that third round pick was then on the table because their Plan A was gone and the Pats gained leverage in the trade.
Mallet has no leverage at all. The Patriots can just keep him on the bench and the Texans can play one of their other QBs or go get someone else.
That isn't true. The Texans need a starter now more than they did yesterday. Mallett has some leverage. He isn't asking for a seven figure signing bonuses. He just wants his extension structured that he will be released if he is not the starter going into 2015.
Again, Matt Flynn has nothing to do with this.
Are you seriously telling me that you are considering 'reports' about Mallet being fact?
How do you distinguish which ones are facts and which are not when they all conflict with each other?
Matt Flynn is an example of a situation that Mallett could have been facing if the Texans drafted Garoppolo. To say it isn't a possibility is just ignorant. If Garoppolo outplayed Mallett in the preseason like Wilson did to Flynn, you are saying there is no way that O'Brien would start him over Mallett?
As for what is fact and what is BS rumor, we do not know. But all we have to go on is what is being reported. And what was reported was the following things:
- The Pats were not going to trade Mallett before they drafted his replacement
- The Texans were going to draft a QB with Garoppolo being the target
- Mallett was not necessarily being looked at as the solution at QB or even the guaranteed starter
With that said, I am done. We are just going around in circles on this. I will give you the last word. If you pose something new to discuss on this issue, I will respond. But I think we are starting to just repurpose the same argument over and over again.
