Pass Won't Get Cut

Status
Not open for further replies.
of course hes improved since he was last cut. He got a chance to carry the ball as a starter..hes shown versatility and was #2 or #3 in FB voting in AFC Pro Bowl. Its not all fans that voted..coaches vote too and if he got that much..they like him because of things hes done. I gurantee a team will pick him up if we let him go.

Dolphins need a backup RB behind Brown since Williams is gone for the year

Mangini lost on on Sowell i believe who didnt resign and went to Bucs.

lots of teams love versatility now a days..and Pass has it. Hes what..28-29 years old.. 5"10 217. A little small as a FB but hes got speed and has shown signs of job well done last year filling in.

How about you tell me what Faulk can do that others cant do better on the team? Catch ball..need an update on thoughts about Maroney and how he well eh caught ball in rookie camp? Mills is going to be in backfield isnt he? He set a NCAA TE record for catches or yards. Im sure Maroney can fill in nice for Faulk. We do use a lot of screens..im confident Maroney can do it

???? He was cut. No team signed him. We signed him a couple weeks later. That was two-three years ago. He certainly hasn't gotten any better since then.

This isn't conjecture. It is fact. It is history. No one wanted him and now he is two or three years older and slower.

Tell me one thing he can do that no one else on the team can't do better.
I disagree with this. I think he showed enough as a starter last year that there would be some interest from other teams. Maybe the Dolphins for one?

Are you absolutely kidding me? Have you been under a rock since 2003?

Pass was yes, on the bubble in 2003. Then, he was the second-third FULLBACK on the roster. He wasn't even a factor in the running. In 13 games, he had a total of SIX runs and FOUR catches.

In 2004, in 14 games - only 1 more than 2003, he had THIRTY-NINE runs and TWENTY-EIGHT catches for over 350 combined yards (disincludes returns, too)!

In 2005, in 12 games - 1 LESS than 2003 and through INJURY, he had FIFTY-FOUR runs and TWENTY-TWO catches for almost 500 combined yards (disincludes returns, too)!

----------

2000 - 5 games (2 starts), 18 runs, 58 yards with J.R. Redmond and Kevin Faulk starting. 4 catches for 17 yards and 0 kick returns. ZERO fumbles.

2001 - 16 games, 1 run for 7 yards, 6 catches for 66 yards, 10 kick returns for 222 yards. ZERO fumbles.

2002 - 15 games, 4 runs for 27 yards, 0 catches, 7 returns for 123 yards. ZERO fumbles.

2003 - 13 games (1 start), 6 runs for 27 yards, 4 catches for 21 yards, 11 returns for 254 yards, ZERO fumbles.

2004 - 14 games (4 starts - was the Pats' starting FB, essentially), 39 runs for 141 yards, 28 runs for 115 yards, 6 retuns for 115 yards, ONE fumble.

2005 - 12 games (4 starts), 54 runs for 245 yards, 22 catches for 227 yards, 2 returns for 31 yards, TWO fumbles.

Fact? More like ignorance!

Yes! We should have kept Eckel & dumped Pass

Pass has already been cut. Two or three years ago he was cut, then brought back after three or four weeks of getting no nibbles form anyone.

The big mistake BB made last year was keeping pass and trying to sneak Kyle Eckel onto the practice squad. The Dolphins claimed him on waivers. THey should have cut Pass.
..................................................................................................
AMEN BROTHER! If BB had it to do over, I am sure he would have cut Pass and kept Eckel.

Exactly. He did just like you and I would have done, drop the football. That is why he no more belongs on the team than you or I do.

He can drop the ball and cry if he wants, but don't go telling me that is what NFL football players do.

Anyway, it is a sign of panic and lack of control to drop the ball, unless you can expalin to me how dropping the ball would make his leg feel better. Again, I might drop the ball, and you might cry for half an hour, as you say Fine for you and me. Not acceptable for an NFL running back.

Are you crazy? A player who has 6 years of contribution on a team (played 53-man roster leapfrog with Fred McCrary in 2003 before McCrary went to the I.R., Centers came along, and Pass stuck on the roster - for good) is suddenly incapable of being on a roster? Every player is going to make their share of dumb mistakes. Take Brady's desperate heave from the ground in 2004 which was easily picked by Ayanbedejo to turn the tides of the game and give the Dolphins the chance to take the game on the Sammy Morris goal line dive and Chambers touchdown.

BB is certainly not one to hold grudges against players for things that happened in the PAST! We all know his philosophy on the PAST. It would be pure stupidity to, say, cut Hobbs, Brown, or Brady for their mistakes (much more consequential than Pass' fumble, too) in the Broncos game. The ONLY time I can envision BB doing such a thing is when he's at his last nerve with an on-the-brink player. Pass is NEITHER.

Eckel had to serve his time in the Navy. As soon as he got to Miami, he went on the Reserve/Military list. It would have been the same thing in Foxboro.

And to even think Eckel is more deserving of a roster spot than Pass is insane.

Eckel isn't even on the Dolphins' payroll anymore. He's free to sign with any team, but he's still on active duty as we speak, I believe.

History definitely implies the Pats' would like to go with 3 RBs, 1 H-back type, and 1 Patrick Pass.

2003 playoffs:

RB - Smith
RB - Faulk
RB - Cloud

H-Back - Centers

Patrick Pass

I think you have an emotional mancrush for Pass.
The facts do not support your rumpswab position.

Post #10 despite your mancrush blinders.

The facts? Pass isn't an H-back. He'll never play TE and is much more of the Greg Jones mold - RB and FB. He's younger than Faulk and Dillon and less than year older than Evans. He hasn't been a real kick returner since 2003. He is a totally different player than the one who was cut in 2003. There's a 99% chance he'll be picked up if cut - we're talking about a 53-man roster-quality player here, not shadow-quality. That is a fact.

We're talking about a player who was leading the Pro Bowl balloting for a time last winter - he's no longer an unknown. There's no way Evans makes the roster instead of Pass. Pass has built his own little niche on the roster for the past few years; a niche no other players currently occpuy. The same type of niche Izzo, Davis, Brown, Paxton, Hochstein, etc. have all built. It's very unlikely BB will go with 4 RBs out of the gate given injury history and past roster history. Pass has made MAJOR improvements since 2003 - NO ONE can contest that. This isn't any man-crush. I could make a case like this for 80% of the players on the roster.

If you also chose to ignore the statiscal facts, be my guest. But they are the true, indisputable facts.

Oh, and if anybody has a mancrush for Pass...

I was one of the 'Pass will be cut' guys. But, after reading this thread and the stats, I'm not so sure. Yeah, that fumble was bad. But he has performed well when given the chance.

Faulk has fumbled WAY more than Pass, and he'll stay because he adds value. I think Pass has some competition for his spot... but he might be up to it.

The fifth RB/FB/HB is not a lock to be on the 53 man roster. I think it likely that Pass will take one of the final six spots. He almost always does. However, this team does not need a fourth player to run the ball; three is plenty.

SPEC 3

CORE OFFENSIVE 23
3 QB, 4 RB/FB/HB, 5 WR, 8 OL, 3 TE

CORE DEFENSIVE 21
6 DL, 7 LB, 8 DB

THE CRUNCH - THE LAST SIX
ST specialists, developmental players, additional backup
Much depends on injuries, and on how many top STer's win the position battles.

This year, I favor keeping Pass and the 9th OL to help the offense. This would leave a very tough fight for the final four positions.

Agree completely.

My projected 53 man:

QBs (3):

Tom Brady
*Jay Fielder* or Corey Bramlet (#3)

Daniel Graham
Ben Watson
David Thomas

WRs (5)

Deion Branch
Reche Caldwell
Chad Jackson
Troy Brown
Bethel Johnson

OL (9)

Matt Light
Logan Mankins
Dan Koppen
Stephen Neal
Nick Kaczur
Russ Hochstein
Brandon Gorin
Gene Mruczkowski
Ross Tucker

DL (6)

Richard Seymour
Vince Wilfork

Rosevelt Colvin
Mike Vrabel
Monty Beisel
Tully Banta-Cain
Jeremy Mincey
Ryan Claridge
Larry Izzo

Eric Warfield
Chad Scott

S (5)

Rodney Harrison
Eugene Wilson
Tebucky Jones
Mel Mitchell
James Sanders

K/P/LS (3)

Stephen Gostkowski
Josh Miller
Lonie Paxton

Which means the following notable players get the boot:

Bam Childress
Artrell Hawkins
Eric Alexander
Barry Gardner
Hank Poteat

Ray Ventrone
Willie Andrews
Le Kevin Smith
Martin Gramatica
Dan Klecko
Wesley Britt

teams wouldnt sign him? LOL he came in 2nd in Pro Bowl ballot for FB!

Hes a year younger than Faulk too.. dont say "age"

*ROFLMAO* Pro-Bowl voting? Give me a break. Pro-Bowl voting means NOTHING. Its a frigging popularity contest.

We all have our final rosters. I am fine with yours with only a couple of issues.

OFFENSE
I think that we need a 4th OT and that the man is O'Callaghan.

Therefore, I think Mruc and Tucker are competing for the same spot. I favor Tucker because I think he plays all five OL spots, but Mruc may stay if neither Hochstein or Koppen is extended, since he is primarily a center.

DEFENSE
I would keep Hawkins over the loser of Warfield/Scott, neither of whom are likely to make it if we sign Ty Law.

Sanders was the nickel last year and did an OK job. Hawkins is a corner and is good enough to start at safety if need be. Both Sanders and Hawkins are adequate nickel and dime backs. To me, their flexibility makes them more valuable than Scott or Warfield. Of course, one of them could beat out Gay. I just don't see Tebucky or Mitchell playing much safety, although I like them a lot as STers. I suspect than Alexander has a better shot than most people think; he may beat out Don Davis for one of the ST/LB spots.

In reviewing your cuts, NONE are real losses. In reality, none of the cuts are all that tough. A couple should make it to the Practice Squad, and Poteat back to the shadow roster.

Okay then I guess Tom Brady's votes really dont mean much nor Seymours. Its just popularity contest. He got voted..coaches voted for him..players voted for him. Hes got a spot.

Anyways.. I dont think Childress gets cut..hes quick and fast..showed some good things in pre season and agaisnt Miami..also lined up at CB

O'Callaghan totally escaped my mind. Nice catch.

I had the same train of thought on Sanders/Mitchell/Davis/Alexander. It'll probably be something that comes down to injuries and/or camp battles.

Pats1 - You make a huge amount of assumptions here. How can you say that Pass can block better than Mills or even Faulk when Faulk is the one out there on 3rd downs.

Mills hasn't even played, so how can you make that determination?
