However, had the first down stood, what we then would have done was knelt down three times, which would have used up all the time left on the clock. We would have taken a timeout with seven seconds left and kicked the winning field goal and San Diego would never have gotten the ball back. That was exactly the right strategy. It was exactly what we needed to do.
Polian has nothing to complain about, as many have written here - the replay clearly showed the correct spot of the ball.
The funny part is that 3 kneeldowns would have moved the ball back 4-5 yards anyhow, so Vinatieri still would have missed that kick, and the Colts would have had NO time to try those last few plays at the end.
How does Polian figure the outcome would have changed??
