This sports journalist should have her MVP-voting privilege taken away!

Ashley Fox: My vote is Vick for MVP | Philadelphia Inquirer | 12/20/2010

This journalist from the Philadelphia Inquirer has already voted for Vick. I think this is ridiculous. Let me say that I don't think it's ridiculous that Vick is the MVP over Brady; both of them are having incredible seasons. I would make a very strong argument that Brady is much more deserving, but that's another story. However, to say that you are already casting your ballot when there are TWO WEEKS remaining in the season, the guy you are voting for has not even led his team to the playoffs yet, and to completely ignore the counterargument that Tom Brady should win the award? I'll bet that just two hours before writing the article, she was ready to write a piece on the Eagles' stagnant offense.

This is basically a rah-rah vote from a fan. She is caught up in the emotion of yesterday's game (didn't even wait until the Pats had played), and bases her entire criteria based on an eight minute stretch, where Vick overcame a bad three and a half quarters. No comment about the 15 weeks of football played prior to the Eagles comeback or about Brady's historic season. Also, she doesn't even know when the MVP is announced; it is not on Super Bowl Sunday. What exactly do you need to do to get a vote? Be a huge fan of one team?

Sorry, but even as a huge Pats homer, if I were given the privilege to vote for the NFL MVP award, I would not cast my vote for Brady until after the season ends even if he had 75 TDs. Suppose that Vick throws 11 INTs in his last two games and the Eagles miss the playoffs?

I think this is ridiculous and irresponsible.

In a close race I'd expect their local reporters to vote for him, no big deal.

The point is it is inappropriate to select the MVP of a 17-week season after 15 weeks (and to boot, to write the article even before Brady got to play his game the same day Vick had his candidacy game.)

Yeah, she definitely jumped the gun by putting her vote in for Vick before the season is over. Just another example of journalists using emotion/opinion over logic/facts.

I know the point, it's just stupid to get upset over some local Philly reporter writing a puff piece when it's obvious that they're going to vote for him anyway. If Vick tanks the next 2 weeks she looks like an idiot, if Brady does she looks good, and if it remains status quo it's just a throwaway article.

Borges has our vote. Awards are stupid, who cares?

FWIW, Peter King has said he's voting for Brady.

Re: Official "National Media/Opposing Player Bashes Pats/Accuses Pats of Cheating" Th

I oppose the merging of these trash threads. If they're funny, they'll stay a while as people post, if not, they'll die as they should.

Now there's one big garbage thread that might as well be deleted since it won't make any sense and no one will read it.

Don't post, the thread goes away. I don't understand why people can't grasp that.

Anyway, to the Ashley Fox vote. I want to commend Philly for being on the front lines of the porn stars as sportswriters movement.

This.

Sometimes there are articles I'd like to read, and sometimes not. If they are all just dumped into a "trash" thread, it'll be impossible to find them.

I understand that PatsFans is a dictatorship, but people are free to leave when and if they want. Stuff like the merging of every thread that might even remotely bad mouth a reporter makes it harder and harder to stay here.

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ SOMETHING, DON'T READ IT.

I actually thing the better thing would be to move all of them to the practice squad. But merging is better than having all the hate clutter the board.

I first created this thread because I thought the main forum was becoming too cluttered, with too many similar threads. My thought was to try to consolidate similar themed threads, as it would hopefully create a more positive experience for all the forum members.

In my opinion there are still too many similar threads in the main forum. I don't want to be a dictator and I don't think any of the other moderators do either. Consider this: there's an "official post game thread" and yet there are still about 30 new threads created in the main forum in the last 12 hours.

I can understand the concept of letting democracy decide whether a thread lives or dies based on people commenting on that topic, but a side effect is that a lot of very good topics get pushed down to the bottom of the page and onto page two, where 99% of the time they will never be seen again. Another thing that happens when you have a large amount of threads - good or bad - the same topic tends to get restarted over and over, because that topic has been pushed down to page two and beyond. In my opinion that doesn't make for a good forum or a good user experience.

We've made longer threads with the weekly game preview thread and the weekly media predictions thread. That's helped to clear up a lot of the clutter and redundant threads; is the forum better or worse with one thread on those topics, or a new thread with every media prediction and every media preview?

If some of the topics that do end up here are of interest to anyone, is it really that hard to just hit "last page" and see what the latest column is that is being discussed?

I'm open to suggestions and I'm sure Ian and all the other moderators too. Nobody's trying to be a dictator; just trying to make the forum a better place to visit.

The only reason I even came into this thread was I clicked on the (moved) thread about the reporter in Philly that had already voted for Vick for MVP and I was taken to the first page of this thread. No idea where the link to the article I wanted would be. Had to scan through the entire thread to find it.

I don't want to read all the crap about this reporter disses the pats or that reporter brings up spygate. But I did want to read the reporters reasoning behind the vote for Vick. No it wasn't a good article but I still wanted to read it.

I think a "This reporter is horrible" sub forum would be a good idea.

As for the Dictatorship, it has to be one or it will just degenerate into chaos. I would just hope it stays a benelovent dictatorship.

Hypocritical much, Peter?

4. I think I am all for skepticism regarding who knew what and when did they know it regarding the Sal Alosi sideline fiasco in New Jersey eight days ago. But I'm not for declaring Rex Ryan or Mike Westhoff guilty without any evidence.

DeSean Jackson punt return; NFL*playoff picture clears up - Peter King - SI.com

You sure waited a long time for evidence during the first week of spygate. Schmuck.

I really don't understand why the Media loves the Jets so much. Goodell I can sort of understand I suppose.

I heard king say last week that he doesn't think it was a big deal and it should just die. At that point i turned the radio off in my car. Like your saying hes a hypocritical, on one hand he constantly brings up spy gate but thigh gate and who knew about it is a nothing story.
