    The original poster here :

Scout.com: Two Sources Confirm that Mangini is Gone

    is a reliable source :

"Two internal sources within the Browns organization have told the OBR that Eric Mangini has been informed that he will be relieved of his duties."

    Oh, happy day.

    Re: Mangini Your Fired!!

I could never fathom why they hired him in the first place after the Jets debacle.

Guy isn't fit to coach a high school team.

    Re: Mangini Your Fired!!

I figured this guy would be coaching high school football by now, but he keeps failing up for some reason. I would predict he won't get another job in the NFL, but this guy keeps falling into crap and come out smelling like a rose.

You know, Eric may have his first historical coaching milestone. Has anybody else managed to get fired from 2 NFL head coaching jobs before age 40?

I figured they'd give him one more year. They outta hire McDaniels as their OC to teach Colt McCoy. Would be cool if they got Cowher as their coach right in the steelers division. Or promoting Rob Ryan just so both Ryan twins are coaches.

I think Gruden gets courted. Buds with Holmgren. Ohio boy.

Just don't know which passion is greater. TV or coaching.

Actually, I am more surprised Holmgren didn't fire him right after he was hired as GM. Mangini does not run a West Coast offense which Holmgren wants his team to run. Their philosophies are very different. The only way Mangini was going to save his job was to finish above .500 and possibly having to compete for a playoff spot or get into the playoffs. The Browns finished 5-11 (which is the same as last year) and losing their last 4 games. He had no hope of surviving.

You are correct sir! Vince Flippin Lombardi would have been fired. Holmgren wants HIS guy in there as coach. The Browns will be a factor in the near future. Look what he did with Seattle.

    No Jersey Selected

Wasn't Holmgren hired mid-season? I thought that and the fact that they beat us convincingly were why Mangini was given time to finish this year and show what he's capable of.

Now, will BB hire him back as a DC of the Pats? ;)

Holmgren did a nice job in SEA but in actuality once Bruce Allen inserted a GM to have a say in FA and drafts, they started winning.

As you know, Ron Wolf ran the show in GB.

I'm not sold on Holmgren as a franchise leader by any stretch.

Holmgren was hired December 22, 2009. He was hired before the end of the season last year. Many people thought Mangini would be fired in January.
