Interesting insight in the never-ending BJGE vs. Maroney debate. Kind of hard to discount this one.

Every sign points to the conclusion that Maroney's failings were more off of the field than on it. In a year where leadership and work ethic were clearly the top personnel priorities, choosing the guy who works three times as hard to achieve 90% of the result does send a positive message.

Re: F. Taylor : BJGE outworked Maroney

Like I've said before maroney had incredible talent when he was drafted. He could twist and turn and change direction on a dime. Lots of his yardage came on misdirection / against the grain runs. After his rib area injury he couldn't do that anymore. Now if he had worked harder like Fred says ... perhaps he could have compensated a bit.

there are lots of youth athletes so blessed with talent that we never get to see in pro sports. For too many years they get by on sheer talent. perhaps it's best when the talent comes later on as we have see with the likes of Troy Brown and Wes Welker.

Not quite sure how you come up with 90%.

I really hope BJGE makes me look like an idiot for all the doubt I've had in him. It'll be interesting to see.

I have been a big BJGE supporter all through, but it's clear that Maroney still does things that BJ can't. Perhaps BJ can turn 90 into 110 -- I hope so -- but, at present, I'm with Patchick.

Considering the main reason the Pats continue to give BJGE shots is because of his work ethic, it isn't surprising.

I have always suspected that people were getting information about Maroney from Taylor. This makes my suspicion more of reality

Re: F. Taylor : BJGE outworked Maroney

Maroney has peaked (unless he changes his work habits). BJGE has not. He is still learning and improving, as stated by F. Taylor. People are quick to say how Maroney is the better back. It's too early to say what BJGE's commitment and work ethic will lead to. Give it time. We have that luxury with guys like Taylor, Morris and Faulk on the team. I couldn't pick better guys for BJGE to learn from.

Re: F. Taylor : BJGE outworked Maroney

This is a great point. Hard work and determination are a lot easier to maintain as your body ages and takes punishment than raw physical talent is. So it may well be that Green-Ellis has a better future ahead of him than Maroney.

But...as was discussed in another thread, RB is the most plug-and-play position on the field, where rookies typically make the greatest impact. It would be astonishing for an RB to gradually work his way into stardom.

Mosi Tatupu was a blue collar hard working RB who didn't have the most talent...maybe like Law Firm

Re: F. Taylor : BJGE outworked Maroney

If we could get Antowain Smith numbers out of him (circa 2001), that would be great.

I'm not looking for that. I just want his RB by committee work to be a solid contribution. Block for Brady and maybe catch a pass now and then.

It's not just his work ethic. The guy is a good ballcarrier and he plays fullback as well as special teams. Maroney is just an RB who occasionally returns a kick or two.

I'm surprised the BJGE bashers haven't been more vocal over the last few days. Maybe they're waiting for him to have a bad game or a key fumble to say "I told ya so".

For what it's worth Taylor had made some comments about the members of the RB group about two weeks ago during a radio interview. He said BJGE was hard working and determined. He said Maroney was a nice kid who was realizing that you have to work at being a RB- that's paraphrased but isn't too far from what he actually said. It was very telling at the time.

Are there really BJGE bashers on the board? All I see are contingents who think he is the next great back, and a more pragmatic group who think he's an ok RB. Nothing great, just ok.

Re: F. Taylor : BJGE outworked Maroney

Even then, that's still not absolute. Not every career is established in the first year at RB. Maroney's best year wasn't his first.
