-We're in the bottom half of the league in available cap space.
-Year in and year out the team manages to the cap to allow for flexibility without mortgaging the future.
-This approach has resulted in the most gaudy win/loss % in league history since Brady stepped under center.
So what happens when a guy with 1 solid season walks? Shrill cries of "WE NEVER PAY OUR PLAYERS"
This fanbase is full of idiots who don't know how good of a thing we've got and why we have it.
You were doing fine until the last sentence. Most of the people on this message board know how good we've had it since Bob Kraft bought the team and Bill Parcells came into town and put the Patriots on a great path.
That aside, Edelman is entering some very interesting territory for a guy who will be catching passes from somebody who may not know how to protect him the way Tom Brady does.
Does anybody know what the guaranteed money was in this three-year deal?
If Edelman signs a better deal, the guaranteed money better be good. Wes Welker had two serious concussions last season because Manning throws these fluttering ducks that allow defenders to line him up for big hit, as he did with Austin Collie.
If he goes to Cleveland, he'll get killed. Who will be throwing him passes that are out of the reach of defenders, and are placed so that he's not heading into ferocious hit? The Jets will be the same. Geno Smith is busy trying not to get himself killed, much less placing the ball in a perfect spot for his receivers.
The guy that went to the perfect situation was Danny Woodhead who was used properly in San Diego last season.
I wish Julian Edelman well. He has been a great Patriot, and deserves to be rewarded for what he's done, and find a good fit.
