I think I know what Ditka was getting at - if Brady was pissed enough to get in Smith's face after TD #1, then maybe twenty players rattling off the reasons why the Steelers would win for certain might have gotten to the Pats to the point of distraction. It's a vaild theory from one of the last ball-busting coaches. Mort missed Ditka's very proactive coaching point completely (like most here) - if one little one second string safety mouthing off can get Brady and Co. to get all worked up then an avalanche of such gaurantee talk might just have made them play with too much emotion and not enough smarts - exactly what the Pats don't do when they win.
Ditka's a whack job, but I enjoy watching him. "Yes, Mort, the Pats did win," Big Mike probably wanted to say, "but that's exactly my point: judging from Brady's historonics, maybe a ton more of Smith's type of talk might have helped the Steelers win by throwing the Pats off their controlled and cool game plans."

I don't think so................ Ditka don't know what was said by TB. The whole point that B use that stupid Guarantee crap thing for was for THU, FRI, SAT, to keep them focused and executing at practice. Come game time, when helmets meet, it's about exciting............ which comes from practice. The guarantee did nothing in game, it just stoked them to focus and execute at practicing and scheming. That's what BB material is for. It's of little use when 300+ lbs bodies start flying.
The jawing was probably TB just saying something like "there's your guarantee right there............. a guaranteed piece of sh!t". Mindless jibber jabber that's not really necessary, particularly after you just roasted the guy, but I got no problem with it.
Let's let BB decide how to motivate our guys, not Ditka, OKAY....
its just hypocritical for the media to call out smith for yapping during the week and now criticize the pats for paying atten to it after the game.
Even as much as I hated that game, this bothered me. It was so wrong. This from a coach who let Refrigerator Perry score a SB touchdown instead of Sweetness. He was nothing after Buddy Ryan left.
"i wouldve had a lot more players popping off...i didnt like the way the patriots reacted" WTF ???

I'm sure that if Belichick had just told Kyle Brady to take out Anthony Smith Ditka would have been excited. Did anyone else catch the segment on NFL Live (or Primetime, whichever one is on at 4) where they were talking about Merriman accusing Fisher of sending his players out to hurt Merriman? Ditka was there giggling away, saying "he loved it," and "that's football. I used to do it to my guys."
Ditka's a douche.
Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm wondering whether anyone remembers the details around the Refrigerator score. A Bears fan is arguing that it was a trick play like we use with Vrabel and that the game was not out of hand already. Was Sweetness in at tailback and the hand-off was a quick hitter to the Fridge or was he in at tailback? Also what was the score and time left?
I'll ask his opinion when I need a bottle of bbq sauce.
