Mort's reaction was classic. "You know the Pats won coach?"

He is senile, there is no doubt about it. One too many helmet-to-helmet hits.

Yeah, but they only won by 3 touchdowns instead of 5. Clearly Smith's guarantee rattled the team and teams now have a blueprint on how to lose by only 21 points instead of 40.

    LMAO classic...

Man, there's getting to be a lot of blueprints around for beating one team, especially given that it's an undefeated team.

You guys are crazy, everyone can see the Pats got all bent out of shape over this. It's only a matter of time before they implode and God help all of us when that happens...

... Ok, just for kicks I tried pretending to be mentally challenged like Ditka is. Wasn't too happy with it, I'll go back to being intelligent.

LOL! And let's not forget the Pats let the Steelers stay around in the game for a half before they utterly mascacred them. That wouldn't have happened either.

This from a coach who let Refrigerator Perry score a SB touchdown instead of Sweetness. He was nothing after Buddy Ryan left.

I think I know what Ditka was getting at - if Brady was pissed enough to get in Smith's face after TD #1, then maybe twenty players rattling off the reasons why the Steelers would win for certain might have gotten to the Pats to the point of distraction. It's a vaild theory from one of the last ball-busting coaches. Mort missed Ditka's very proactive coaching point completely (like most here) - if one little one second string safety mouthing off can get Brady and Co. to get all worked up then an avalanche of such gaurantee talk might just have made them play with too much emotion and not enough smarts - exactly what the Pats don't do when they win.

Ditka's a whack job, but I enjoy watching him. "Yes, Mort, the Pats did win," Big Mike probably wanted to say, "but that's exactly my point: judging from Brady's historonics, maybe a ton more of Smith's type of talk might have helped the Steelers win by throwing the Pats off their controlled and cool game plans."

It's funny how the Patriots are getting the criticism from Ditka, Plaschke etc when it's the Steelers who need to be slapped down for behavioral problems.
BTW I don't think Ditka knows Smith was trash talking at Brady on the field before the game just like Plaschke didn't know that went on. That is what got the Pats fired up not this simpleton's guarantee.
Brady's response to Smith trash talk was classic when he turned to a coach and said " is he talking to me??"

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm wondering whether anyone remembers the details around the Refrigerator score. A Bears fan is arguing that it was a trick play like we use with Vrabel and that the game was not out of hand already. Was Sweetness in at tailback and the hand-off was a quick hitter to the Fridge or was he in at tailback? Also what was the score and time left?

I used to have respect for Ditka. Now, I think that Vince Wilfork should use his rotten, moustachioed head as a toilet.

It wasn't the guarantee that got Brady fired up. It was this simpleton Smith walking onto the field at Gillette and screaming trash talk at him before the game. Where is the criticism of the Steelers coaches and so called veteran leaders to let this momo run at the mouth that way?? Hey Tom is a football player and can handle all the trash talk you throw his way. Take more than talk to get him off his game as the Steelers found out yesterday.

I don't buy it. It's not like two guys mouthing off is twice as distracting as one, three guys three times, etc.

I don't know what the relationship there is, but I think you'd reach its ceiling pretty quick.
