Yeah, but they only won by 3 touchdowns instead of 5. Clearly Smith's guarantee rattled the team and teams now have a blueprint on how to lose by only 21 points instead of 40.

and now steve young again rips the pats...for paying atten to the 3rd string player in pitt and now they are worried about spygate and are wanting to score 100 on them..this isnt required..
what a bunch of BS.
This from a coach who let Refrigerator Perry score a SB touchdown instead of Sweetness. He was nothing after Buddy Ryan left.
Mort missed Ditka's very proactive coaching point completely (like most here) - if one little one second string safety mouthing off can get Brady and Co. to get all worked up then an avalanche of such gaurantee talk might just have made them play with too much emotion and not enough smarts - exactly what the Pats don't do when they win.
I think I know what Ditka was getting at - if Brady was pissed enough to get in Smith's face after TD #1, then maybe twenty players rattling off the reasons why the Steelers would win for certain might have gotten to the Pats to the point of distraction. It's a vaild theory from one of the last ball-busting coaches. Ditka's a whack job, but I enjoy watching him. "Yes, Mort, the Pats did win," Big Mike probably wanted to say, "but that's exactly my point: judging from Brady's historonics, maybe a ton more of Smith's type of talk might have helped the Steelers win by throwing the Pats off their controlled and cool game plans."
