Defense fails again!

I attended the first preseason game against the Ravens. In
that game, the Pats special teams were awful and the defensive
backs gave big cushions to the wide receivers. The game started
with three straight pass completions for first downs after which
Fernando Bryant was pulled from the game.

Since that game Matt Cassel has changed from an ugly moth into
a beautiful butterfly but the other problems still remain. I attended
the Ram's game and saw a long kickoff return. Same when I went
to the Bill's game. Either Brad Seely is coaching poorly or his
personnel is not adequate.

The Patriots did not do an adequate job in free agency signing
cornerbacks. Their initial free agent signings included Fernando
Bryant, Jason Webster, and Lewis Sanders. Bryant was cut after
he was carried into the end zone by a wide receiver and Webster
and Sanders had injury problems. O'Neal has been up and down
all season. He's made some nice interceptions but also given up
long pass completions.

The coverage situation has been compounded by the lack of a
consistent pass rush. A good pass rush (Giants) can overcome
the lack of good cornerbacks. The Pats have not consistently
pressured the quarterback.

they just cant seem to get it done late. they did once though....

When you're down three starters, those things have a greater chance of happening.

Wow, our defense is a lot worse than our offense. That is one of the worst OT stats in the league. Thanks for making our point about what happened in overtime.

Overheard at practice from Belichick:
BB said:
Yes, our defense played great and there is nothing to blame them for, or the defensive coaching. We had a great kickoff for a touchback, but then the Jets scored because of a few problems with the rules. For one, sudden death is just horrible. Look at our stats! Second, this ridiculous coin toss. We aren't going to watch the tapes for the overtime part of the game because obviously we can blame the rules. Our guys played great, our coaching was perfect, and I defy anyone, including myself, to find any valid criticisms of our overtime play and playcalling.

Wait, that would be if we had Tomlinsen or a Raider's fan as a coach instead of someone who actually understands football and how to improve. Namely, humble pie baby!
