Re: BB goes off on press about Colts

The Colts may be tanking the season but if there is one game they want to win I would thinks it is this one. They will throw the kitchen sink at us I would think.

That's kind of my feeling too. I sort of think the Colts have been sandbagging it a bit, but with every other team in the NFL having at least 2 wins, the Colts are finally in position where they can play as well as they want for a game and still be number 1 in the Luck sweepstakes. I would guess this is the game they will give it their all.

Re: BB goes off on press about Colts

1.) They're a team in decline, precipitated by the aging of the core and the poor drafts in the past couple of seasons.

2.) They're designed to play against teams that are behind and one-dimensional as a result.

3.) Manning is not the only major player lost to injury.

34.) Curtis Painter really sucks.

The Top NFL Organization of the 21st Century! :D :D :D

It was typical BB speak, dont let the team get comfortable against any opponent. The girl (Christina ?) asked the question the right way but anyone with any experience with BB should know how he's going to answer that type of question. You wont hear Perillo or Reiss ask that question.

Re: BB goes off on press about Colts

Hmmm....not sure I can go along with that.

"aging elite" = codeword for a really talented player who happens to have bad stats in a particular year. Example usage: "Steve Smith was an aging elite WR until Cam Newton came along. Now he's just an elite WR." :p

Except Steve Smith is 32 and Reggie Wayne is 33. So Smith rebounded two years younger than Wayne will be next year when he has an opportunity to rebound. Most WRs hit the age way at varying speeds in their mid-30s (see Randy Moss and Chad Ochocinco for examples that his close to home). I don't think a Smith comparison is valid because there is a two year difference and at that age, that is huge.

Re: BB goes off on press about Colts

The Colts' talent is overrated. Take away Freeney and Mathis and who do you fear on that defense? Who do you even really care about? They have one of the worst o-lines and RB corps in the league. All they are without Manning are two great DEs, an aging elite WR, an elite TE, and some good WRs. This team probably doesn't win more than 5-7 games with Manning this year.

If I was building a team for this year, the only players I would consider taking from the Colts are Freeney, Mathis, Wayne, Clark, Collie, and Garcon. I probably wouldn't touch a single other players from either side of the ball. They have about 5 good/great players out of 53. The Colts are arguably one of the least talented teams in the league even with Manning.

I don't know about that. There is another player who would walk into a starting job with the Patriots.

They have a really pretty good Probowl Safety, as I recall...

+1. I would take Antonio Beathea in a heartbeat. He is a damn good FS.

I'd take Freeney, Mathis, Clark, Wayne, Garcon, Collie, Donald Brown, Addai, Bethea, Angerer, Nevis, Saturday, Brackett, also Powers. The only teams that has more offensive weapons are is GB and the Saints. Horrible O-line yeah but their sack number without Manning arent as different with him as the Pats o-line was with Cassell playing( league lead in sacks). Many of these "horrible" colts would play pretty ****** good on the Patriots. None of our rb's are better or more talented then Brown and Addai. Who would they take from NE? You could say BJGE because of his stats with NE but with the colts he'd probly suck. Gronk, AH, Welker, Mankins, Wilfork, Mayo, Chung, Spikes, Mccourty, Love, A-train(but of course he'd be a backup on their defense. Last but not least BRADY. If the colts wanted to win games they could be they have a 62 overall qb starting and were in MANY 1 score games.....throw a Cassell or even Orton and this team could very well be floatin around .500 and in the race for their division. I don't wanna hear this BS they're nothing without Manning when no QB in history has had as much to work with as Manning his entire career. He has never NOT had a future hall of famer to throw to. That team was built to have atleast a solid QB or else there in big trouble. They dont have an even close to AVG qb right now so there in trouble. But easily 20 qb's in this league could take that STACKED team to close if not better then a .500 record.

Was that who it was? I wasn't sure, and was trying to figure it out.

The initial questions came 14+ minutes in from a male reporter, but the one he had much less patience for was the one from a female reporter 19+ minutes in.

Re: BB goes off on press about Colts

The Colts are better than their record. I don't care how great Peyton is, there's no way a team literally drops off this drastically because of one guy.

Colts have regressed a bit as a team, and lost a few key players. I also don't think this team is playing hard at all. They started to check out around week 4, maybe sooner.

The defense was not this bad, and ironically, that has been the biggest problem with them this year. Peyton Manning doesn't play defense last time I check.

Chris Painter as their QB sure didn't help things, but if a motivated Colts team actually shows up, they'll end up with a win or two at the end of the year.

I forgot Bethea, but he might be the only other one.

Donald Brown?!? The guy is more than halfway through his third season and he has 1,134 yards and 8 TDs for his CAREER. So in almost three season, he has had what an above average RB has in a season. BJGE is clearly more talented than Donald Brown.

Addai isn't much more than a third down pass catch RB. I might have him over Woodhead, but I would rather have Falk in his prime. BJGE is a far better lead back than Addai. If the Pats offered BJGE straight up for Addai this upcoming offseason (granted BJGE is an FA), they would jump at it.

Saturday is over the hill. Brackett has been injury prone (missed all but one game this season and missed ten games over the previous three years) and not all that great since 2007. Angerer is decent, but his tackle stats are padded because of the crappy defense.

And I don't think a healthy Manning could take the "stacked" Colts to .500 this year. They are devoid of talent other than a handful of players. Curtis Painter didn't allow the Saints to score 62 pointa on the Colts, that "stacked" defense did. I don't know how Painter caused Brees to complete an amazing 88.6% of his passes on the Colts defense for 325 yards and 5 TDs.

Let's not forget that with Manning last year, the Colts were 10-6 (and they played the AFC West last year instead of the much tougher AFC North this year) and Manning bailed that team out of at least 3-4 games that without him they would never had a chance to win. This year's Colts minus the QB position isn't as good as last year. So even with Manning healthy, it isn't inconceivable to expect that team to be .500 or less.

The other thing I would note is the Colts reliance on Manning to be the offensive coordinator at the ling of scrimmage. His ability to make radical adjustments at the line and then execute that play was at an extremely high level. Without Manning the Colts entire offensive philosophy, their formula for scoring points, was severely altered.
Epic fail on the Colt brass for not having a better backup plan on offense,

Re: BB goes off on press about Colts

Just watched the whole presser. Here is the translation of the headline headline: 'Media Makes Mountain Out of Molehill'.

If this qualifies as BB going off then he is the calmest man on the planet. First, it appears BB is tired. Second, the question was a fair question (paraphrasing) 'don't you think you can better gauge how good your team's play is against an opponent with a good record versus an opponent with a bad record'. Third, remove BB's line about 'you can go on with your soliloquy' and it was a rather routine response with a modicum of irk to his tone (based on him being tired and the question be asked at several points in several ways). Lastly, BB hit the nail on the head with his response. Freeny and Mathis are a very good test for the OL's pass protection. The Indy WR's are a good test of the ability to cover. Indy's secondary is not poor. And ultimately any Sunday's game stands on its own and is not influenced by a game played three and four and five weeks ago.

You can see why the Patriots rarely lose to lesser opponents. BB absolutely believes what he says about opponents records and probably drills it (ad nauseum) into the heads of his staff and players.
