Re: BB goes off on press about Colts

That was too kind, I would have been harsher. I can bet the Saints thought their game vs the Rams was going to be easy.

Re: BB goes off on press about Colts

I love it!

Dude is ripping into the media, IMAGINE what he is saying to the team!

Re: BB goes off on press about Colts

Here's the best part:

When one reporter started telling him that he wouldn’t be able to judge his team based on how they play against a bad opponent like the Colts, Belichick got upset.

“I don’t agree with that,” Belichick said. “So, you can go ahead on your soliloquy about that, but I just don’t agree with that. You don’t think you can gauge a team based on how a player blocks Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis? I mean, who else would you gauge it against? What? Are you kidding me? Covering Reggie Wayne, [Austin] Collie, and [Pierre] Garcon — you don’t think you can gauge your coverage based on those players? I don’t care what their record is. You don’t think there’s better receivers around than them? Better pass rushers than Freeney and Mathis? I mean, I’m not sure what games you’re watching here.”

For once it seems a completely reasonable response from BB. He's right. The Colts are not without talented players.

Re: BB goes off on press about Colts

I think BB also recognizes that this is as close to a division game as you can get without actually playing someone in your division. They've played each other each of the last ten years or something, so these Colts players know what they have to do to beat us, and they're not going to suddenly forget that without Manning there. They're also not going to play any softer because they're 0-11, I'm sure a number of those guys still take this rivalry very seriously.

In the NFL, if you don't match the other team's energy level, talent will only get you so far.

Re: BB goes off on press about Colts

You know I went on a similiar tirade back in college when my friends made fun of me for hooking up with a 300lb co-ed with a five o'clock shadow in a drunken stubor. I pointed out how every woman is beautiful in their own way and that she had pretty eyes and lucious lips. My friends probably bought my rant more than reporters bought Belichick's.

Big girls need love too. Good job.

Stay thirsty, my friend.

Re: BB goes off on press about Colts

He's right. This is not going to be a walk in the park as most media and some fans think.

I hope that the players are buying in to what he says and not listening to the media. Many of the same players that have been part of the Colts games the past 3 years are still there. I'm sure that they would like this to be a statement game for them.

Manning is a huge part of the Colts, but I don't understand how they can be 0-11 with the other talented players that they have.

1.) They're a team in decline, precipitated by the aging of the core and the poor drafts in the past couple of seasons.

2.) They're designed to play against teams that are behind and one-dimensional as a result.

3.) Manning is not the only major player lost to injury.

34.) Curtis Painter really sucks.

The Colts' talent is overrated. Take away Freeney and Mathis and who do you fear on that defense? Who do you even really care about? They have one of the worst o-lines and RB corps in the league. All they are without Manning are two great DEs, an aging elite WR, an elite TE, and some good WRs. This team probably doesn't win more than 5-7 games with Manning this year.

If I was building a team for this year, the only players I would consider taking from the Colts are Freeney, Mathis, Wayne, Clark, Collie, and Garcon. I probably wouldn't touch a single other players from either side of the ball. They have about 5 good/great players out of 53. The Colts are arguably one of the least talented teams in the league even with Manning.

The Colts may be tanking the season but if there is one game they want to win I would thinks it is this one. They will throw the kitchen sink at us I would think.

Hmmm....not sure I can go along with that.

"aging elite" = codeword for a really talented player who happens to have bad stats in a particular year. Example usage: "Steve Smith was an aging elite WR until Cam Newton came along. Now he's just an elite WR." :p
