Belichick built this secondary for this matchup

SD just doesn't scare me! for the most part NE and BB has owned them. They tend to play their division opponents at a higher level than outside the division. GB, eh, saints showed they are not as great as folks thought.
The Pats are 6-3 against them since 2001. So, good, but certainly not perfect. There was at least one game in there that the Pats had no business winning. Playoff game, but I forget which year.

If we win out it means we are 14-2. Denvers best possible record would be 14-2, but us winning out would mean that we would have the tiebreaker after beating them. And interestingly enough, everyone else in the conference has already lost at least three games besides the Bengals, who are 4-2-1 but we would have a tiebreaker over them as well.
Yes, as I said, I got it after the fact. :) I initially thought you were talking about this 6 game stretch.

But this ain't the Marty/Norv Chargers team lead under Ladainian "hide your tears with a dark visor" Tomlinson. Whole different team from 6-8 years ago.

No that definitely wouldn't seal a number one spot. I sure hope we don't win the next 6 and give up the number one seed from dropping an egg vs. The Jets, anyways!

This makes me wonder. Is there actually anything that referees can do to punish players further if they repeatedly commit penalties or blow up players ? Can they eject players at will for reasonable reasons ?

I've wondered about this when defending the goal line. If the ball is inside the one, why not just tee off on the OL as soon as they come to the line? So you lose half the distance? Do it over and over and over again, until on the fifth or sixth time, you fake it, and they twitch and thus commit illegal procedure, moving the ball back to the five. Why not?

So he has morphed into a talented D backfield
Huh??
Does the hoodie come off and BB's body goes through mitosis replicating 4 to 6 uber DBs?

If we do beat Denver, the one game that'll still scare me matchup wise is San Diego. On the road, great offense, pretty good defense when healthy, it's the one game I don't have a great feeling about.

Looking past Denver?

I would think this is one week when this Sunday's game is plenty to worry about!

Hence, *if* we beat Denver.

The real question about Sunday is pick plays, defensive holding, and pass interference (both ways). Unfortunately, we have one of the most flag happy crews in the league set to ref this weekend. If anyone watched the San Diego sham, you understand my trepidation.

If I had tickets I'd buy the biggest boots I could find, and stuff the toes with c batteries...just saying...

...I'm joking! Well, until the first garbage defensive holding or hands to the face while Welker straight blocks [defensive back's name here] without a flag.

I hope one of our ST'S specialists is thrown on the field the first time WW gets out there. Light his pick running ass up and set the tone for flags. I want the defensive lineman going low on their oline the same play, assuming those dbags have already done it on a zone run outside. Set the god damn tone after those sleaze balls try it themselves.

Most importantly, if ANYONE gets a shot on Goober, light his ass up. Based on this crews history (you all remember a few weeks back), you are getting the flag anyways, make it worth it.

Part of me prays BB comes up with a "goon" set. Show the zebras what truly deserves the laundry early, and as often as possible.

If this is an abomination like last Thursday, I'll lose my mind.

BTW, where is senator dbag railing for his investigation after that railroading? Cali, throw your ineptitude at something that can help us massholes! Lol, again, only kind of joking...Hey now, maybe that's why Pitt got that garbage SB? All those terrible calls...

I think you make salient point. A PI here and a DH there can make a big difference in the outcome of the game. With the Patriots receiving quite a few BS calls so far, IMHO, and with Manning being the darling of the NFL front office, it's worth considering what this will do the refereeing/the game.

Stopping the Broncos on third down and getting off the field is obviously huge. It won't happen every time, however, getting that magic number of stops is prime. So having the refs negate a couple of those successful stops can be the difference.
Ultimately, if the Refs favor the Broncos (like they favored them in last week's SD game), well, nothing can be done about it. BB/TB/the team will just have to beat the Broncos AND the refs :)

Fans are allowed to look at the schedule as a whole. We're not the ones playing the games and spending nearly every minute awake mentally and physically preparing to play.

We can pretty much kiss home field Advantage away if we don't win today. we might just have to go 14-2 to get home field but I think 13-3 will get it. I see us beating Denver. winning 2 out of the next 3 after that. and winning the last 4.

2006

SD had the top #1 seed, and NE was coming off of a victory vs the NYJ a week earlier in the wild card round.

SD pretty much dominated the game (I believe TFB threw 3 INTs) and on the last Brady INT all they had to do was fall down to secure the victory. Fortunately for us, Troy Brown was able to come up with the fumble recovery on the INT return, and they somehow pulled it out after being down significantly in the 4th quarter. IIRC, they may have even had to pull out a 2 point conversion.

It was Marty Schottenheimer's last game as HC. Imagine getting fired after a 14-2 season where you're the #1 seed? LOL

Hey, I've got a great idea! The night before the Pats/Broncos game in Foxboro, we could also kick around some mock drafts! :)

I'll eat crow if I'm wrong but I think our secondary is going to EMBARRASS Peyton on national television during the Brady/Manning bowl in front of everyone. It's going to be a media feeding frenzy afterwards.

Peyton is going to get owned Dynasty era style

God I hope you're right. I can definitely see that happening. A lot depends on whether the refs will give them some room to play.

For that to happen, some combination of Pats offense and defensive turnovers is going to have to allow the Pats defense to play with a lead and force the Broncos to be one dimensional.

We'll see. My expectation going into the game is that the Broncos are supposed to be unstoppable, the best offense in the history of the universe.
