Dude…

Trying to lighten the mood. Both obviously dealt with some adversity early on, albeit one clearly had a better resume and never lost again after that week until 2004 (Week 8 at Pittsburgh [34-20]). You know, minor details.

But that doesn't change the fact I'm curious to see how Jones responds. One factor I had forgotten about is that this one will be at home...guessing it's going to be a rough crowd and I don't know how well that's going to go.

Ian. My man. I think this calls for a gentlemanly bet:
So it's Brady's rest of 2003 stats(reg season)
vs. Mac's rest of 2023(reg.season).
Since Mac will play one more game than Tom, we will base it on per game averages of all stats.
I got Brady.
How much we gonna wager? How about 5k?

Playing with fire there Ian. I can see this post hitting the hot button on about a half dozen ongoing bitter debates. I hope you pre-bought extra bandwidth at a discount.

I don't make bets I'm 100% sure I'm not going to win ;)

Again, just thought it was a weird parallel. Obviously doesn't mean anything, but still interesting. Although, I've blocked out that Buffalo game to the point I don't remember how bad Brady looked. I know he threw a pick-six but I can't remember how erratic he really looked in that game.

Brady had four INTs vs Bills and then 3 INTs vs the team now known as the Commanders.

Almost every SB winning team got off to a slow start (2-2.)

Also of note: the 2003 squad was abysmal on the ground, averaging 3.4 ypc for the whole season, which is one reason they traded for Dillon next season. They weren’t really a ground and pound despite their historical reputation.

I am not sure if Mac is the answer. I am not sure if the receiving corps (WR and TE) is the answer.

I know the OL is a question, though. I would give up next year's and the 2025 2nd round pick now if it meant it would stabilize with our top 5 starters. Even our top 4 and a plug-in. Everything starts at the OL and radiates out.

I noticed today it was Smith-Schuster who seemed to see the reduced snap count this week, with Parker continuing to see the lion's share of the snaps. Hoping that changes and either Boutte or Thornton see action. But as I said to someone else, I'd prefer to see them maybe use Thornton (if he returns) like Miami uses Hill (get him the ball in space) rather than keep heaving it down the field and then have him be Deion Branch-like and get down before taking a big hit.

completely different era...I believe it was after the 03 season that Bill Polian went crying to the competition committee to change the pass defense rules.
but....I argue if Jones had at least ONE "go to" guy - say a modern day Deion Branch, to go along with the crew of garbage he has at WR, couples with just a mediocre offensive line ... we're talking about a completely different outlook on the season. Right now, this season is an abyss unless the offense can suddenly increase it's output by 10 ppg....put Zay Flowers on this club and we're talking playoffs instead of 5-12

Can we have one of these posts for Bryant too?

Thornton’s route running needs to improve. It hasn’t in part because he’s been hurt.

I look at that and think...

Brady is retired...

Hmmm... wonder what Drew is up to these days... the pats should invite him to the saints game... think we could snag him at the veteran minimum? Might delay his trip to Canton buuuuutttt.... he might answer the call ala Bob Gladieux...

Yes. Why is it that Thornton is only called upon to do the deep ball. Get him open in space and let him run.
