Week 17 vs Giants on NFL Network

I know a bunch of people here don't get NFL Network. Will this game be broadcast locally on a network station also? I'm just curious.

My guess is that it will be, since one of the Boston stations always carries the game when it's on ESPN Monday nights. But don't hold me to that.

Re: Week 17 vs Giants on NFL Network

Yes, this game will be on Channel 5 locally and on the NFL Network everywhere else.

Re: Week 17 vs Giants on NFL Network

Where is "locally"?

I live in Western MA, and I fear I might not be able to see the game.

Re: Week 17 vs Giants on NFL Network

Do you get Channel 5?

If you do then, yes, you will be able to see the game. If not, then you have to get the NFL Network...

Thanks. I get WGGB-TV Springfield. I'll have to find a friend with NFLN.

Patriots/Giants only on NFLN?

I just realized (from listening to WEEI) that the Patriots/Giants game - a game that many believe would be a historic chance for the Patriots to lock up a perfect regular season - will be on the NFL Network and only the NFL Network.

Anyone know how much NFLN costs? Can you just buy it for a month or so? Or do you need to subscribe for a full year?

I'm not so much outraged as disappointed - I'll find a way to see the game no question but there are millions of "good" fans out there who just aren't going to subscribe to the NFL Network because of one game - and they get as much enjoyment out of watching the Pats play as I do

So millions of people are going to miss what could be a very historic game

Can't fault NFLN though - that's capitalism - and while there might be some marketing benefit to making it free for the weekend, I don't expect they'll get overly altruistic when they stand to make a lot of money.

Re: Patriots/Giants only on NFLN?

if you're in the Greater Boston area then it will be simulcast on Channel 5 as well as on NFLN, BUT if you're in NH/ME/VT/CT/RI/W Mass then you SOL.

I think Comsuck gets an extra $7/mo for the package in my area.

Re: Patriots/Giants only on NFLN?

I presume that it's at least on broadcast in the teams' home markets as usual, right?

Re: Patriots/Giants only on NFLN?

NFLN is part of the DirectTV basic package (I think).

Not sure about comcast or Dish assuming that you are a comcast customer.

You should check the web-site of your providor. The alternative to not getting the game at home is to go to your favorite sports bar.

I don't think so.... I believe that none of the broadcast networks have rights to that game. Its owned by the NFL.

EDIT:

I stand corrected.

According to what I've read, I should be able to "watch" the game on one of the local NYC stations, yes? [I live in southwestern CT.]

I dunno. Schefter this morning made it sound like it was ONLY on NFLN but that's not right. EEI has been rehashing the issue a lot this week and between that and what I have read in the past about the NFL fight with the cable companies the 8 NFLN games are broadcast in the teams local market on a local station, similar to the way monday night games are. Now usually that's easy but with the Pats covering the "New England" market you're guess is as good as mine on how far out they'll extend the "local" area. :(

what ticks me off about the whole thing is that I used to have NFLN on my Comsuck (yea, I'm gonna keep calling them that, not just for this issue) digital package and they yanked it and put it in their "sports package". the reason they gave was that it was costing them to provide the NFLN and that raised the cost of the base level package and it wasn't fair to people who didn't want NFLN....BUT when they took it away my base package price never went down. It's a free market economy here, I understand that but I hate the shady double-speak from that company

Re: Patriots/Giants only on NFLN?

If you aren't happy with the service you get from comcast you might try to see if you can use the threat of switching to DirectTV to upgrade your service.

I had DirectTV extended analog package and wanted to get the HD + DVR package. When I called them directly and asked what it would cost they said $15 per month plus $199 for the HD-DVR plus shipping.

I did some research and found out about 'Customer Retention'. Basically, you call your provider and say "<competitor xyz> is offering a free HD service, HD DVR and 6 months free HD service if I switch."

I did that and got the HD service free for 1 year, Free HD-DVR, HBO for 3 months free AND $10 per month off for the next year.

EDIT:

Here is a link to a page that walks though how best to get a Customer Retention Specialist for Comcast.

I'm getting some good leverage soon, Verizon was outside my place a few weeks ago with a truck with a nice big spool of fiber on it. FiOS will soon be available and even if I don't go with them I can still call comsuck and say "hey, I'm switching to Verizon....later...".

leverage is good

Re: Patriots/Giants only on NFLN?

My condo complex has a deal with Comcast so I can't get any other service. I think we pay $8/month for the sports package which includes NFLN, NHLN, ESPN Classic, and a bunch of college/soccer channels. As much of a scam that the channel/provider is, at least we have the option of getting it. I think Cablevision doesn't have the channel at all.

Thats why I hate Condos and home associations. They put up BullSh!t rules.

So there's no chance you can put up a satellite dish?

Anyway... if you live within 50 miles of Boston you might be able to get it on Channel 5's HD broadcast provided you have a very good antenna. I live in Southern NH (Derry) and receive all the Boston channels in HD.

Re: Patriots/Giants only on NFLN?

Anyone that can get WCVB Channel 5 will be able to see this game... But the NFLN has taken another marquee game that will anger a lot of people: GB at Dallas.

Yeah, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. We're not allowed to drill anything to the outside brick. And the "deal" with Comcast only saves us $ on installation fees. We tried negotiating but they know we have no leverage.
