Scott Chandler Lets call it like it is

He can get open, he has great size but if he had great hands he wouldnt be here. He is what he is, you cannot expect a catch everytime if Brady puts it on him.

I think as he gets more time with JE out he will get better. Lets remember that everyone has dropped perfectly thrown passes this year, including gronk. At the end of the day defenses cant ignore him.

Precisely. There was a reason he was available at his cap cost. It is what it is.
Let's see if he can overcome his hands of stone like a past Patriots TE successfully did.

If Brady stops trusting both Chandler AND Williams, then trading Hooman may stop looking like a win for our side.

Williams is and will never be a major receiving threat.

Chandler didn't have the consistent hands in BUF and does not here.

It is what it is.

well Lafell didnt have good hands in Carolina and he has done pretty well here, lets give Chandler a little time and some more playing time which will tell us more. I suspect we see more of him.

I see we're all getting very Zen and it is what it is-ish here, but the reality is more was expected from him by most.

If this is the Chandler you were expecting, then good for you. But I think some are changing their view on him and acting like it's what they thought all along.

He is playing his role .Can do better but not really biggest of our issues by any means

I think some folks are overstating Chandler's hands of stone. If they are indeed stone then they are made of soft stone....perhaps talc. Yes he's had a few dramatic drops but I think that it's more likely than not that he will be a valuable role player down the stretch.

Yeah, there does seem to now be a fair amount of it. If memory serves, I saw a lot of very excited posts about him after the acquisition. One would think we'll see a bit more of him with Jules being out and especially if the hamstring continues to keep Martin out.

Sure, you put it that way, very clear. o_O

The big problem is that people expected Chandler to be a superstar, when he is, and has always been, a pretty average tight end. Which is something that is really good to have in case of an injury to Gronkowski, because it means that we still have someone that can do an okay job as an Y tight end.

You can't compare Gronk and chandler in regards to catching ability. Gronk makes tough catches, in stride, with defenders on him. I'm glad chandler caught the td yesterday, but he dropped quite a few in previous games. The drop yesterday was as routine as you can get, wide open, almost a lob pass, with both hands on it. Stats don't tell the whole story here. If after that drop he showed some emotion I can understand but he seemed to accept that failure.

Who caught one of Brady's TD passes yesterday?
McBride?

That was a terrible INT thrown by Brady and he had two fumbles earlier. Bench him!

The problem for me is that he looks like Gronk when the camera pans to him on a pass attempt, and so I expect Gronk-level performance from him. Then I see it's 88, not 87, and I think 'Dead God, I hope he catches it at least...".

If nothing else, he's still a decent weapon around the goalline, but I don't expect him to reliably catch those vertical seam routes we're used to seeing Gronk haul in.

I really like Chandler, I wish the Bill's could've kept both of them but they didn't. I just don't think he and Tom are on the same page yet but yes, Chandler is going to drop some balls but he can also make some pretty good ones and he (used to be) clutch for us bills fans when Fitz and Chan used him to no end in the end zone.

I saw him drop that ball and I went, that'll be on the forums monday lol.

He's so far been one of those guys who is better in theory than in real life. Percy was one of those to me. Save for that SB return, he was always better in theory than in real life, though he did make some explosive plays from time-to-time.

I'd give him more time. I think people around here did overrate what his role was going to be in this offense.

folks wanted him to be fill the void left by the killer, or to be the second coming of Gronk. Unrealistic expectations, now being disappointed.

Exactly.

Same with Tim Wright, Sudfeld, Ballard, Shiancoe, and so on. People won't get over that we aren't going back to that offense.

If Brady stops trusting both Chandler AND Williams, then trading Hooman may stop looking like a win for our side.

Given the improvement in the run defense, I'd call that a win even if Chandler and Williams never catch another pass.
