Aaron Dobson

Yes, Brady could have put it in front of him a little more, but also Dobson should make that catch. The problem with this is that the ball popping out of his hands when he initially caught it and having to recatch it is what allowed Tillman to make the play.
The ball popped out because Tillman pulled his arm down.

How in the hell did the refs allow return yardage on Tillman's INT? Two players are laying on the ground side by side. One rips the ball from the other. And, there is no contact? WTF??

I have an argument, and it's been backed up by multiple players and analysts. Your argument is insane. So, again, take it up with Zolak, Chatham and Fauria. I'm not arguing with crazy people this weekend.

Excellent use of the third pre-season game. It's great to see you're in mid-season form.

Pillman didn't pull his arm down until the ball had already bounced off his hands.

The throw was fine.

Not to my eye. It was a bad throw that, even if caught, would have cost the team an easy TD. But it still should have been caught.

Agreed. He always seems more concerned about breaking his fall than holding onto that that ball. He has mad skills. Could be a very good WR. He needs to get angry.

I'm not going to lose sleep over Tillman stealing the ball from Dobson. That's what he does, and is one of the best ever at it. It's like getting angry at a safety for not being able to pull down Gronk.

Did it suck? Sure, but there aren't a ton of Tillman's out there who are going to make that play. I'm more concerned about Dobson's ability to get consistent separation than his ability to fight for the ball.

Yes, it was. We can't have a serious and honest discussion about this guy if people are going to be defending him about plays like that.

While I may be dissapointed in him not being able to stay on the field I don't thing either interception was his fault. Now he could have knocked the ball out of the other guys hands on the first one, I believe he must have thought that when he lost control of the ball to the other guy the ball most likely was bounding away somewhere and not in the CB's control. That was more of a great play by the corner than it was a error by him. I read the 2nd as a fault by Brady.

It was a poorly officiated call on a ton of levels. Sequentially, Dobson had the ball in his hands. His elbow and shoulder hit the ground. Tillman takes it. Thats it. Pats should have maintained possession right there. With that said, Dobson needs to do a better job of pulling that in. Tough play. I'm not getting on him too much on that.

To your premise, the officials ruled that he did not have posession and Tillman then has a right to it. The only way for him to claim posession is to be on the ground. Because he was being touched by Dobson, by default he is down by contact.

You mean players that you have dismissed as not knowing much when they disagree with your opinions?

As a contrarian, you have been alone on an island many times with your opinions. When people bring up that all the experts disagree with you, you dismiss them as being lightweights. I can't remember you saying it about Chatham, but I know you have dismissed Zolak and Fauria as lightweights.

Some Comments on the Comments

1. You know what I think. I think that this 10 page thread is more a function of the fans who make a habit of picking players to dump on, as if it somehow makes THEM feel batter about themselves. The list is a long and illustrious one. A lot of pretty good players have been in the very spotlight that Aaron Dobson seems to have found himself, Edelman, Amendola, Wendell, Connolly, Hooman, Wilson, Ryan, etc, etc, etc. "they suck" and my favorite "they're just JAG's.", are just a few remarks from the couch potato coaches and player personnel "experts", who see to know more than the guys who get paid for it.

And while I know it's every fan's right to criticize the team he follows, I have no idea why some people seem to derive pleasure out of this.... and believe it, the kind of invective that we sometimes see cannot be disguised as just constructive criticism. It's just being mean.

2. IMO - after looking at the stills - and some replays, there is plenty of praise and blame to be shared.

a, Dobson ran and excellent route - + A better pass makes this an easy catch
b. Brady's pass took Dobson back into the defender. He has to share the blame, but on the other hand, throwing perfect passes 30 yds isn't easy.
c. Dobson did a good job tracking the ball and high pointing it.
d,. The still showed Dobson with 2 hands on the ball. What it doesn't show was Tillman's also had a hand on the ball as it was being caught. That could have easily caused the bobble
e. Someone like Anquan Boldin would probably have made that catch.
f. If there is a criticism I'd make of Dobson, it would be to work to get his hands stronger. I'd give him tape of Boldin from the 2013 season as an example of what strong hands can mean to a receiver.

3. Someone talked about the lack of WR's who failed with one team and succeeded with another. Almost immediately one came to mind, and that was our own Brandon LaFell. Now I wouldn't call his tenure with the Panthers a "failure', but there certainly weren't many Panther fans who decried his leaving. Nor can you call what LaFell did last season anything BUT a success..

4. 10 pages (so far) is way too much effort being spent by fans for on a receiver who (baring injury) is likely to be the 5th option as a receiver. behind, Gronk, Edelman, Amendola, and LaFell. (6th if you count Chandler)

5. I'm rooting for Dobson, and I'm aware his future could be in doubt. I'm hoping he will be ANOTHER in a loooonnnngggg line of players here, who have been the object of derision and scorn and overcame it.

He pulled his arm down exactly as the ball got there which caused him to lose control.

We are talking about 2 snaps in preseason game 3 and after his hammy injury. cmon guys. He is not last year camp sucky Devey

Your argument has no merit. Dobson's the larger player, and he had position, and Tillman didn't just bat the ball down. He came up with the pick, because Dobson completely failed to do his job.

BB just outed himself here!

Dobson is SOFT. Todd Pinkston 2.0

He goes to the ground every time he touches the ball. So unnecessary. He doesn't fight for the ball.

If the league didnt crack down on helmet to helmet hits, this would be Dobson…

I wouldn't put any WR in Pinkston's category. Alligator Body was a great call.

Dobson just seems to play soft and hit the ground early, as you and others here have stated. However, he can't be that bad or Belichick would have given up on him by now.

I'm not sure that he could have caught it, but the reason is the way he went after it and allowed the db to take it away. He should have at least broke it up or fought for it more. He also could have made sure that the db was down. Aaron Softson.

Breaking it up makes no sense since it was a catchable ball even after the bobble. I don't see how he could make sure the db was down other than giving up on the fight even sooner. Neither seem like a legitimate criticism to me, he just should have caught it in the first place. It's the bobble that caused all the problems, from there he and the DB had a roughly equal play on it.

Tell you one thing, if that play happens to LaFell or Edelman in a preseason game people wouldn't be talking about it 2 days after. Just really illustrates how much Dobson's head is on the chopping block with some fans.

I had to check what year this thread was created. Yup 2015 and this is the year Dobson becomes the combination of Megatron and Moss. You never let me dow patsfans form.

Dobson is the new Matt Light. There are just certain players that people will kill no matter what they do or don't do. Shane Vereen had that up until last season. People forget that Kevin Faulk was that guy for a number of years until well after he fixed his fumbling problems. Of course Amendola had that target on his back until late in the playoffs last year.
