Worst case scenario : Both DBs sign crazy $$$ contracts with other teams, which Patriots cannot match. And there are a number of teams with lots of $$ to spend.
What's the backup plan?
Link?
Sounds just like more speculation...or real because all of us on here are experts
I see a lot of people making statements as though they are referring to actual news.
BillB always has some $$ value assigned to each player's worth. It's very likely he will break that rule just for Revis. What is that number? We will find out soon enough.
Borges the Bogus said:Revis is willing to negotiate a long-term deal, but only if it’s in excess of the three amigos (Sherman, Peterson and Haden). That probably would mean a four-year deal worth more than $64 million because his deal in Tampa Bay averaged $16 million and he wants a raise. In addition, those sources say, he feels his services were “discounted” in 2014 at $12 million instead of the $16 million he was set to earn on his Tampa Bay deal and wants to get that money back. In other words, when he negotiates with the Patriots, they won’t be the only businessmen at the table.
If Revis is cut and then decide to come back, what happens to the dead money ?
Felger said that his sources (most likely close Revis confidant Ty Law) that Revis will take a discount to stay with the Pats as long as he is the highest paid CB. I rarely believe what Felger says, but I take this one as probably true since it probably came from Ty Law.
Also, Felger said that Law told him that Law regrets not trying harder to renegotiate with the Pats and ending his career as a Patriot. He did not like bouncing from teams chasing money. Hopefully, he is advising Revis on this.

the situation is being overthought......it is pretty simple.....the pats could not tag mccourty and have the the option the pats have on revis be viable.......the pats are holding their cards until the last minute....yes you could argue philosiphically that revis has the leverage, but there is one card he has already played......the pats have all the leverage with the ability to exercise the option and keep him at the big number...... everyone and their mother knows that Revis needs to make a deal this year. Sure the pats would spend a bundle on him in 2015, but he would have to provide another year like the last one, and he still won't get the deal he would have gotten this year......
overall, I don't think the pats are planning on being big players in FA this year, so it would not be too big of a stretch to keep revis at the big number........extend solder, convert a bunch of roster bonuses.......
either that, or the pats are going to have a ton of 3rd round comp picks in the 2016 draft
