same fans who didn't care about their supersonics? same fans who absolutely don't give a crap about mariners?

seattle is not a good sports town. they were in a happy mood because they just won the SB!! they are a classic fair weather fans. and they don't live and die seahawks. they are loud because that's how stadium is built. it's a great experience, but they don't live seahawks 24/7.

a great sports cities are chicago, detroit, and boston.

To top off the idiocy of the tattoo. His artist sucks, the line work is terrible. Surprised considering how many renowned tattoo parlors there are in Seattle. Must of been a hack.

The idiot probably did himself in the mirror.

I'm a big believer in positive thinking and I've said this before but I believe a lot of the sports failures in Boston were self fulfilling prophecies and brought on by a negative mindset. After decades of heartbreak many Boston fans always expected something horrible to happen.

I still believe that the 2001 Patriots stunning victory is what broke that mindset in Boston and opened the floodgates for championships in all sports. If the 2001 Patriots didn't do what they did and shock the world, I still think the Red Sox would be waiting for their championship nevermind having 3 of them.

I guess Larry Bird and the Celtics 3 rings weren't enough?

I have the complete opposite reaction to Seattle "fans". I've lived here forever and before 2 years ago nobody cared. Now everyone is on the bandwagon again because they're suddenly relevant. They're loud, obnoxious, and in your face. Idk how many times I was told they were gonna "kick my ass" in 2012 for wearing my brady jersey. The 12th man is a joke ripped off of Texas AM. Respecting the opponent? Most of them this week are acting like they're playing tampa bay and not green bay. I hope we meet in the SB and we beat the piss out of them.
Most Seahawks fans hope they're fortunate enough to play New England in the Superbowl. Nothing would be more satisfying than winning a second consecutive championship against the last team to do it.

Now, as someone who lived in Boston (well... Cambridge) and now Seattle I can assure you that there's no way Seattleites can out-obnoxious Bostonians. Seattle is a young city... there was essentially nothing here 120 years ago. Much less time to build up weird eccentricities and social angst that the comparatively ancient Boston.

I actually think the Pats would destroy Seattle in the Superbowl. Everyone else thinks we're doomed, but I think they're pretenders who haven't played a single snap of relevant football since their game against the Dallas Cowboys in week 6, which they lost.

I also heard an interesting stat today, which is that the average QBR of the quarterbacks they've faced is like 52.

Fools gold thriving off an easy schedule, Arizona's QB misfortunes, and a 7-8-1 Carolina playoff team?
Maybe. They did ok against the teams they faced which is all they can do. I heard a lot of similar comments from... pretty much everyone but particularly Broncos fans before the Superbowl last year. Against a team with a historically great offense. We Hawk fans hope they're lucky enough to play the Pats this year. No better way to establish a legacy than beat Manning and Brady in consecutive championship games.

yeah...uh...except for the ancient Indian tribes that have lived there for thousands of years.Duwamish or Suquamish ring any bells? After all, they've been THERE since the end of the last Ice Age (over 8 thousand years ago). Gee, guess that's a NEW weird eccentricity and social ignorance built up out there recently.

"
From the 1800s, the maritime fur trade in the Puget Sound-Strait of Georgia accelerated the pace of social and organizational change.[23] White settlements at sbuh-KWAH-buks (Alki) and what is now Pioneer Square in Downtown Seattle were established in 1851 and 1852.

By the time Coast Salish began to realize the implications of the changes brought by Europeans at ever-increasing rates, the time was late. After just five years, lands were occupied; the Treaty of Point Elliott was signed in 1855. There is question about its legitimacy, from the lack of understanding of the two sides about each other to the motivations of the U.S. government and its agents.[24] Whites recognized leaders more or less at their own choosing, bypassing what they saw as the maddening fluidity of tribal leadership. The potlatch was widely banned, and the longhouse soon suppressed.[16]"

I mean, it's got to be some kind of built in West Coast bias against us here in New England. Why else would you make such ignorant remarks? Branding us as eccentrics and social misfits, ignorant and weird? Jeezus , Cobain, lay off the Seattle heroin/crack concoctions.

Yeah, man, I hear you, and am totally with you on this one! Oppression of Native Americans is most definitely unique to Seattle. Something like that would have never happened in New England, and it definitely would not have been glorified by memorials and holidays! I also agree that this is totally relevant.

Oh look Doc...you broke this....

For relevance, since it was NOT I that made these broad, sweeping generalizations painting all New Englanders with the stigma of weirdo eccentricity and social angst, I give you a few refrains from a Seattle ORIGINAL, the inimitable Meatmen....

Come On Over To Mah Crib Lyrics
Come on over to mah crib
Where decadence abounds
Come on over to mah crib
Party rowdy rockem sockem sounds
Come on over like pronto
It's funville's coup de grace
Come on over ya weenbags
Group smash and splash ooh la la!

Gotta go-cart track in my backyard
I got big, black, mean-ass security guards
Gotta hot tub chock full of gelatin
And ten naked gook babes who are oozin' in!

Come on over this evening
Way cooler than downtown
They rip folks' new bungholes
Down in the ramrod lounge
We roll out red carpets
For sweet pubescent clam
Don't preach, you see, for normalcy
No way we give a damn!

Gotta discotheque with a spinning ball
I got Beta hi-fi's in the pooping stalls
Gotta white slave harem in the budding phase
In my pudwackin' palace, it's and 80's craze!!

Sodom and Gomorrah
Got nothing on what's doing at mah crib
Sodom and Gomorrah
Got nothing on who's screwing at mah crib

Trip on up to my boudoir
With fantasies in tow
There's rubber Randy Rambo
He makes the *****es crow
With luck you'll find yours truly
The putz jammed in your mug
A dose of T.V. supergoo
This decade's wonder drug

I got one-way glass in the powder rooms
Meet the big-hair poseurs from the Club of Doom
Got born-again Christians tied for target games
Yup, it's balls-out sinnin', and we show no shame!!

I've got pink bazookas-I'm such a nut
I've got AK-47's up the butt
I've got ******* seeking missiles mounted underframe
Makes meatloaf out of weenies who are really lame!"

No weirdo social eccentricity or angst there, eh Doc....just brandy spankin' new crystal squeaky clean Seattle fresh air.

The point being...it's people who THINK their shyt doesn't stink that unknowingly reek the most. Now run along and cool down with a nice dish of avocado tofutti and four or five doses of Ecstasy.

Seattle fans aren't obnoxious??? Please

A buddy of mine took his family out therefor the game in 2012. My friend who's Italian married a person of color, and for the whole second half they were subjected to a whole bunch of racist crap, with their kids there and all. That's not to say Seattle a horrible city for it, but EVERY city/fan base has their fair share of ***holes.

I have been a long time lurker and reader of this fantastic board and know most of you regulars well (I look forward to Ken's and Rob's weekly posts, etc). I have been a fan since 2nd grade in 1993. While I read this board constantly, I do not post much. You can see by my join date just how long I have been on here....Please pardon my terrible writing.

I have finally been compelled to start a thread, and what finally did it was moving to Seattle a year ago and going through two seasons of Seahawks out here. I was born and raised in Central Mass, but moved here for work. And I was recently home on business. Here are some observations...

1. Seattle fans LOVE their team in the most positive way:
People here are generally friendly and enjoy good football. Throughout the season, there was an optimism that I have not seen in NE. I mean, this team was 6 and 4 at one point in the season and looking up at Arizona (three games back) and were nowhere in the wildcard hunt. They were struggling offensively. Nevertheless, everyone wore their Number 12 jerseys every Friday to work, everyone smiled and enjoyed the games, everyone cheered on the team during the worst of games. There is a certain amount of unconditional love here. I see unconditional love in NE as well, but the fans there are more like an old grumpy demanding patriarch of a family, where they love and would die for a family member (i.e. patriots team), but would have no problem cussing them out and screaming at them when they feel emotional for whatever reason.
Let's say Seattle loses an away playoff game (or the superbowl), the city will be disappointed, yes, but there will still be 1000s of people at SeaTac airport to greet the team's plane and thank them for an amazing ride. In NE, the talk would be about the end of the Brady era, who should get fired, and how worthless and a bunch of losers the team is.

2. Seattle fans are united.
As I said, EVERYONE wears Seattle gear every Friday to work (even hospital employees where I work). The skyscrapers are lit up with number 12s everywhere. There are number 12 signs in every store window and number 12 flags on every car. There is a giant number 12 flag that gets raised over the space needle before the game and that flag travels to the superbowl! Now, yes, a lot of this is bandwagon since last year, but the bandwagoners out here are not d*cks. And the diehards welcome the bandwagoners without getting all self-righteous about it. The bandwagoners in NE are the worst type of fans. They pretend to be know-it-alls and then make ridiculous comments about the team, whether it be overconfidence vs catastrophizing everything. The game day thread here is kind of an example.

3. Seattle fans are quietly confident while maintaining a healthy respect for the opponent.
There is a quiet confidence out here. This could be a good thing or a bad thing. What I mean is that Seattle fans are enjoying this run, vs many patriots fans (myself included) are crapping their pants during every game. As awesome as that Baltimore game was, I almost threw up many times during that game and do NOT want to see another game like that again. I mean it was AMAZING, but I can't say I enjoyed every second of it (is that normal???). Seattle fans have savored every moment this year (and last year). Moreover, most people are very much respecting Green Bay and there was a lot of respect for Carolina last week.

4. Seattle sports talk radio is actually good.
This is what actually was the impetus to me posting. I was listening to talk radio out here (and I stream the radio at home). The radio guys are just like the fans! They are excited and enjoying the Seahawks! There is no axe to grind against the team. There is no "we will roll over Green Bay." There is balanced football analysis of the weaknesses of the team (they do exist) like the offensive line and the receivers, while still maintaining a healthy sense of homerism. I mean, I don't think there is a Shaugnessy type or a Felger type out here. They debate statistics and genuinely analyze strengths and weaknesses. And they appreciate any win! Seattle beat Carolina 13-9 in October. Talk radio was mostly positive the next day. If we beat a team 13-9, there would be nothing but talk about the crappy offense! Similarly, Seattle beat SF 17-7. All positive talk while genuinely acknowledging weaknesses. There is NOTHING but positivity heading into tomorrow's game on the radio out here, while in Boston, it's either "Pats will wipe them out tomorrow and if we don't, and if they don't, they're garbage" or "Our offensive line sucks, there is no pass rush, D gave up 30 points last week, Andrew Luck is due to go off!"

Boston sports culture is very deeply rooted in history (15 years without championship; Red Sox curse; 18-1, etc). But I think it's a bigger New England culture to be demanding, pessimistic, egotistical, and (sometimes) just plain idiocy. Maybe an East Coast West Coast thing. It has been a tough adjustment out here. I tend to be quiet and shy in general, but out here, I'm considered a total a** hole! I don't follow the lights when crossing the street (NO ONE J WALKS HERE!) and I don't make small talk with the barista or the bus driver. Whatevs.

Thoughts?

To the OP, if you've never lived outside NE and Boston, then we can understand your culture-shock. Bostonians are more snide, sarcastic, cynical, and direct than most. I'm definitely not the oldest person on this Board, but those who've lived and worked outside of NE and outside of the country can appreciate your experiences of cultural regionalism.

It's fun reading other peoples thoughts: http://www.city-data.com/forum/boston/211310-do-you-find-bostonians-friendly-cold.html

I'd like to think I'm being a little more realistic than Bronco fans. After all, Denver is the fan base that, over the last three years, lost to virtually every playoff team they faced in the regular season, then went into the playoffs believing they were guaranteed a Superbowl for some reason.

If the Patriots didn't have their entire defense on IR last year, not to mention Gronk home with a shredded knee, I don't think they would of even went to the Superbowl (they're 1-5 against us since 2011)

Denver was drunk, Seattle sent them home.

I'm a fan of Wilson and have been in the minority over the last 2 years with Russell > Luck, I respect your defense, wish we had Kam, and think Pete is the 2nd or 3rd best coach in the NFL.

(I was actually a Seahawks fan and had been since I was a kid, but when you became really good, I had to part ways and say goodbye)

.... but this year I cannot help but wonder if you're untested, while the Patriots have lopsidedly dominated a gauntlet of division winners this year, with the exception of Green Bay, who we lost to on the last play of the game in Lambeau.

But we shall hopefully see.

Seattle=Podunk...

Seattle=Podunk...

You're confusing today's opposing city, India-No-Place, with Seattle.

Seattle is acknowledged to be a great city.
