What kind of world are we living where Bears fans and Packers fans are arguing with one another on a Pats fans forum!? ;)

Welcome to all. Enjoy your stay.

Even as a Pats fan, one has to admit that the NFL is a better place when the Bears and Packers have good teams.

Anydody have any idea how Soldier Field compares to our old sandlot?

Another Bear fan here. I saw your earlier post on the Bears and "lucking" into some wins. It's fair criticism.

That said, can't similar things be said about the 8-4 Packers or the 9-3 Jets? For example, the Packers got to play Philly before Vick ever got rolling. They also played Buffalo went Trent Edwards was there. You lost to the same Washington team we did, as well as Miami. Yes, the Bears have beat medicore teams, but so have the Packers---Minny, Dallas, Detroit, San Fran, etc. The 9-3 Jets haven't beat that many exciting teams either. Their first win against the Pats is their only signature win.

Maybe the Bears aren't for real, but any fan could use the same logic you did and apply it to the Packers, Jets, Jaguars, Saints, Giants, etc. You could find some things wrong with any of those teams and say they aren't for real.

I know it probably sounds like I'm doubting the bears because I follow the Packers, but I can assure you that is not the case. Maybe I'm more adamant about it because I follow the Packers, but not biased. The bears aren't the only team I'm betting against... I'd also put the Buccaneers, Chiefs, Jets and Jaguars in the same category. The Bucs, Chiefs and Jags haven't really beat anyone and the Jets haven't looked all that impressive since week 2. Now some of those teams might make the playoffs (including the Bears), but I'm not betting on any of them.

I agree that you could maybe make the same case against the Saints and Giants as neither has really looked all that impressive (who I think will be the two NFC wildcard teams). The Giants I think are the better team, as they've at least beat halfway descent teams Chicago and Jacksonville (neither of which impresses me much), and they've put a couple whoopings on some easier teams like Washington, Houston, Seattle and Carolina. But I don't know how you can make the same case about the Packers.

If you're discounting the Eagles win because Vick wasn't in his groove yet or didn't play the entire game... consider the following... 1) Vick had 70% of the pass attempts in that game 2) Vick put up a 101.9 QB rating 3) Vick was their leading rusher at 11 carries for 103 yards 4) the Packers didn't gameplan for Vick to play the majority of the game (other than wildcat). It looks like he was same Vick we're seeing now. As far as the Bills go, while it did help that Edwards was at QB, they put a thorough beat-down on them as would be expected, beating them by 27 points (more than any other Bills opponent put on them), quadrupling their passing yards and doubling their total yards. As far as beating mediocre teams, all good teams have beat mediocre teams... its how well you beat the mediocre teams and its how you match up against the good teams.

Bear Fans and Packer fans will argue about anything anywhere and anytime. The hatred between the 2 fan bases is like no other in the NFL. The odd thing is behind all the arguing, there is a mutual respect...

Anyway, Bear fan here just wanted to say good luck to you guys this week end. It's going to be a fun snowy/rainy/muddy game and i hope no one gets injured !

Also there is a lot of misinformation being thrown around these forums about the Bears. I don't want to get into it, need some sleep before i go to work plowing snow tonight but look a little deeper into the Bears defense. The short dink dunk passes The pats have been using a lot this year will NOT work very well vs the Bears. The sweet spot to breaking our defense is outside 12 - 15 yards down field. We will give that up all day. The short passes though, that's just suicide VS our D. It's only a matter of time before some one will get blasted with the short 5 - 6 yard passes.

Welcome, Bears fans. I'm really impressed with the posts I've seen. Bears fans are some of the best. Here's to a great game on Sunday!

So true. In my opinion, the Packers-Vikings rivalry has always been like your kid brother that has to tag along. And its only there when both teams are doing good, and it'll go away when one of the teams isn't as competitive. Packers-Bears is timeless and its crazy how similar they are. Both teams have faithful and knowledgeable fans (not true of the Vikings BTW) and both have a long and storied history. So you can't help but respect either franchise... 21 World Championships combined between the two teams in a 91-year rivalry says it all. I don't know what its like in Chicago, but I know here, everyone knows when its Bears week... and the one coming up in week 17 might be the biggest in decades.

Haha, every one here in Chicago knows exactly when it's Bears Packers week ! If you think about it, it's basically 8 1/2 generations that have lived threw or been born into this rivalry. In a way i wish other fans/teams could understand what this rivalry really is but unless you're a Bear or Packer fan you will never quite get it.

Anyway, can't wait to see you guys on the 2nd. I hope that game decides who plays on and who sits home bitter and pissed off for the rest of the winter. =)

Exactly, you guys hit the nail on the head. When its Pack Bear week every fan knows what's up. Records and stats go out the window. Its' on.

The funny part for me is as much as I despise the Green/Gold I root for em to win if we don't get in. And I really dislike GB.

The field will be a POS. It has been resodded but there is no way the roots have taken. Teams will be wearing the longest cleat they can. The rain, sleet, snow will not help any either. Footing will be treacherous. Latest weather prediction calls for gusts of 40 mph, sub zero wind chills and snow. Sounds like Siberia.

The running games will decide this game. I like how the BJGE runs the ball and you guys have a great O line. Bear D line has to bring it and our LBs are tops.

Our O line worries me especially with Wilfork.

Could be a sloppy game.

Bear weather at it's finest. =)
People keep talking about the bad field and snow. Those are totally insignificant. All NFL teams deal with it a couple times per year. What will have an effect is being wet + 45 mph winds and temps in the teens. It's going to be just miserable and when those big gusts of winds swirl in off the lake and hit wet gloves, shoes, pants, jerseys... It will be a test of will just to stand out on the field. I know you guys play in the snow but this week end the Pats will get a taste of Chicago's finest weather.

These are the games the Bears and Bear fans love the most. =)

Brady and Belichick are 18-2 in games played in snow or below 32 degrees. No big deal. Too bad one of those 2 losses was to the Ravens in the playoffs last January. Bring on the cold and wind, Chicago.

All you guys talk about is your D line and linebackers. They're good. What about your DBs - looks like a bunch of no-names.

Thats one of the reasons that I don't think the Bears are for real. Their defense is one of the best defenses in the league, but they rely on putting pressure on the quarterback, because their pass coverage isn't too impressive. Charles Tillman is talented, but more as a guy who's a hard hitter and can create turnovers. Danieal Manning is one of those guys that can be a pretty good and a fan favorite at times, but is found out of position at other times. Tim Jennings and Chris Harris aren't anything special and probably wouldn't start on most teams.

BrewCity i've been reading up on your posts the past couple of days and thakn you for the mutual respect of our love/hate rivalry. Yes whenever Green Bay plays chicago is all eyes and ears I don't even know why you would doubt that for 1 second. You are absolutely right about the vikings btw LOL.

Anyways as a packer fan you should know our Cover 2 defense. The only way it even works is if have a good enough front 4. I've wrote about it in a different post, here's what I had to say about our defensive scheme.

You will first NEED 4 men who can get pressure on just a 4 man rush without this Cover 2 is absolutely useless. It's a zone defense there's going to be holes if the QB has time to sit and wait. The MLB then will either decide depending on the play either to sit at the line of scrimmage or drop deeep into coverage, which then leads into the OLBs. The OLB's need to fill in the crossing lanes which the MLB left open or be athletic enough to rally to the line of scrimmage. Now the CB's job is to jam up with the WR as soon as possible and disrupt their route. The reason for this is it 'passes' the Wide out to the safeties and enables them to react to the play. The Safeties must be quick/smart/physical enough to know exactly when to break on the ball or to just create an extremely violent collision (hence all the turnovers). All in all, the point of this defense is to stress on the athelticism/smarts of our defensive players inorder to force the QB to throw for the short underneath route or to take a chance and throw into very very tight window. We expect them to either settle for short gains or take risks which can benefit us greatly as long as we succeed of course.

Now the whole point of this is clearly that we DO rely heavily on our pass rush, but for what its worth.. Isn't this all the talks thats been going on all this year? That we've only improved this much because of Peppers? We never had peppers in the other years and had to cope with using people like Alex Brown and when Tommie Harris actually was doing something. So why is it that the other years none of this really ever came up? We built this defense knowing that our DB's werent the best in the league.. The whole point is to use speed and smarts over talent like Revis or even Woodson. Because our DB's arnt the greatest, but our front 7 is a lot better - This defense just WORKS for us. With what we have It fits us perfectly and that is why our defense is good imo. We thrive over turnovers which is true, but that is also because of how our players work with this Cover 2 defense. You're right Jennings and Harris probably won't be starting for other teams, but you forgot to mention DJ Moore. I understand he is still a nobody, but for what hes done this year so far i give him props. He's had 37 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 4 interceptions (1 returned for a TD and it would've been 2 if there wasn't a flag but thats besides the point) and 2 passes broken up. That might not seem that much number wise, but if you've watched the games he's been doin big things.

We can keep comparing numbers and thats probably why the bears arn't contenders to most people, but whatever I'll admit I didn't even think we'd be in this position in the first place.

All you guys talk about is your D line and linebackers. They're good. What about your DBs - looks like a bunch of no-names.

Our secondary is pretty ... Meh. lol
It's not the strong point of our defense but they are very capable of stopping the big play. They are very opportunistic and will go for the INT, try and punch the ball out or get their helmet on the ball. They will also wrap the ball carrier up and hold him until the LB's can get there to help strip the ball. They love to hit and when they get a chance... Better have a good grip on the ball because they will blast you.

Our secondary will be tested VS Brady and the Pats. Your offense is as good as it gets... An under thrown ball or one that's slightly off the mark, It will be more likely to end up in an INT then when you faced any other 4 3 defense. What i find amusing is Pats fans have no idea what they are walking to concerning the Bears Defense. Belichick will have your team ready for it though.

It's going to be a fun, cold mud fest tomorrow and i can't wait :rocker:
GL to you guys =)

but they rely on putting pressure on the quarterback, because their pass coverage isn't too impressive.

Wow a team that relies on putting pressure on the qb, how friggin absurd is that:eek:

BCC don't you think most Ds want to pressure the qb to help the DBs? Or do you think D coordinators say, "line just stand there, don't rush the qb, we want to see how long our CBs can cover."

That is a pretty ignorant statement.

As stated the Tampon 2 relies on pressure from the front 4 so the qb has to get rid of the ball quick and underneath. you don't want the CBs to have to cover for a long time.

Hello Patriots Fans!

Just wanted to come over and wish everyone good luck tomorrow. May we all come away from it injury free!

Winds in Chitown currently a sustained 20-25 mph as of 8:07 a.m.
