Something to ponder about BB.

This may fall under the conspiracy theory category which I am not a fan of but it's something I have thought about a bit lately. MODs etc feel free to delete away if this violates anything...or anyone...

I think we know what kind of man BB is. He left the Jets by writing on a napkin. In most circles this would fall under very immature, unprofessional, and especially ****ish. We know how the pressers are also. We take it as him being himself/blunt etc. So what if he has some sort of axe to grind with the Team aka HandyBob and Sons? What if he intentionally ran the team into the ground, knowing he would be leaving? Do we really think he is that stubborn/old/whatever you want to call it to the point he will not adapt not one iota to help the team?

Maybe the whole Brady thing pissed him off to the point of him wanting to say **** you to the Krafts since they are the ones "supposedly" that wanted to offer Brady a year-to-year and thus pushed the man away.

I honestly cannot say I believe he did all this on a whim thinking he could do it all. Especially the hiring of FattMatt and Judge. With that experience, you know what you can and cannot do. If he was just trying to rehab their standing in the league, he could have hired them on as something else. Assistants for ****s sake. That move tells me he's saying **** it and **** you.

And not to make excuses for Mac but he has also intentionally not provided the support he should have. BB being in the league for so long, someone of that nature would NOT make the same idiotic mistakes. He isn't that dumb. Maybe full of himself, but does hiring those dolts and not bringing in any additional real talent set Mac up for success? It is straight-up neglect if not malicious. Sure, if he wanted out, he would get out...but why do that when he can scuttle the existing team and look like ****, that way the next guy coming in has to deal with a world of **** and that way everyone, media especially, can say "Oh BB did such a good job and now they're terrible that he's gone.". All the while forgetting what was done the last 4+ years of his teams. I'll get off my soapbox now. Trust me, I am not one to find a conspiracy in everything but this just reeks of something other than BB being inept after so many years. Or I will say, maybe he was inept the whole time...I'm not a Jets fan but the way he left leaves me to think he could do worse things. And trust me I am an IBWT tool.

Sorry for the rant...and a doozy for a first post.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone btw.
You might have a case for him just throwing in the towel at this stage but prior to this season I absolutely do not believe any of that.

The Patriots were successful because of hard work, preparedness and talent. Belichick now thinks he can win without the talent. It's not working.
Early on BBs staff was loaded with competent personnel. Be it Weiss, Crennel, Josh, dabol to name a few. Now you have a former lacrosse player in mike pelligrino coaching up DBs.. his staff talent has been mediocre therefore at 71 he has to do more. Therefore special teams has been atrocious the offense I'm not even going to mention... the only unit on the team that's consistent is the defense. I believe he still is a great coach however just like the roster his staff is mediocre as well.

I agree … that rat McDaniels took way too much and left the cupboards bare. That and scar retiring is HUGE…

I don't believe for a second that Bill would be losing to pay back the team. I'm pretty sure that he's losing because he doesn't have the right players, including but not limited to the QBs.
Based on his record of screwing up picking players in the draft, if he was trying to actually pick bad ones he probably would get great ones by accident and the Pats dynasty would continue.....how's that for a conspiracy theory? ;-)

Yes sir.. don't forget about loosing earlier adams. That also was a huge loss. I don't know what he can do at this point to strengthen his staff. That's why to me it feels like is coming to an end.

Ok so then who is the replacement ? Seems like lots of people here want to get rid of Bill … but who’s up next ??

It's not a matter of anyone getting rid of bill.. it's just... all dynasties come to and end.. Tom Landry had an ending similar to BB.. the guy's still a legendary Coach. However unfortunately this business is about wins and losses. The krafts as much as BB deserves credit he still has to produce. Without a QB we are dead in the water. I'm telling people Mayo is the guy next up. I don't want BB the Coach gone.. but the decision may not be up to Bill unless he chooses to do what Sean Payton did. Just speculation of course.

Without reading all the replies

This is a very nice question actually, because we know BB has a big ego... so could lead both ways.

Either he really wants to get to Shula's record (but, more likely than not he will be given another shot after the Pats....) and it drives him

or it's like you said. He is giving a half-assed effort just to prove a point to Kraft

But BB has always been a guy that picks based on his personal circle.

Doesn't fly much these days this mentality

Correct. I'd love to see just how many former lacrosse players are coaching in the NFL.

One of the many things that made Red Auerbach a genius is his awareness that things change.

People. Life. The world. Culture. Business. Sports.

But, he retained strength in the certainty of things that did not change.

Like, for example, his determination to kick the ass of any opponent who's trying to beat him.

My first Fedex job in 1988, they said this: "The one constant here at Fedex is change." So, don't get used to something because you've done it a long time, or because changing from it seems uncomfortable or inconvenient.

Belichick (and Kraft) are emotional, determined individuals, with their own personal beliefs and values and system of thought and work regimen. They mostly don't deviate (or learn or change) because it's 'worked' for them, overall. It's their security blanket.

Obviously, compared to Red Auerbach, Phil Jackson is an idiot. But, for his time, in the era in which he coached, Phil got it right and deserves credit.

Tom Brady did make a lot of people here look good. I think it's important to acknowledge that it's scary for anyone to go outside their personal comfort zone. And, with all the laurels and success behind them, why would Kraft or Belichick want to sign up for that now?

For this reason: There is a ton of potential success and prosperity ahead. Yes, the time left is limited. But the fundamental flaws in their approaches, which Brady overcame, will never go away without their awareness and support. They're each just so isolated and entrenched in their own worlds that it looks like it'll only happen as soon as Kraft restores the old logo & uniform permanently (which will be never).

He’s not doing this on purpose as his legacy has taken a major hit. The national media continues to pile on how Bill was carried by Tom.

Bill’s biggest mistake was not riding into the sunset with Tom so a conversation like this would be hypothetical.

All that proves is that the national media is as ignorant as those making the same argument here.

Great post! True words spoken. Nick Saban said something that was interesting.. he said he's been able to last so long and have lasting success because he saw the NCAA was all about scoring. He has he put his team's together and recruited the best offensive talent he could find. His BFF at 1 patriot place has had so much power, autonomy and final say on roster decisions.

Bill could be a chemist while the GOAT was here.. he never had a QB conundrum like he has had since St. Patrick's day 2020. He of course is a unquestionably the best coach to ever do it. However his coaching career in NE is seemingly looking more familiar with his time in Cleveland. I wish it wasn't the case. I want to see BB build another contender. However without a QB even BB the best can't win.

Bill is a quirky, mad scientist. He seeks out the unconventional, he's an intellectual, he's a student of the game, and for all his real self-deprecatory humor, genuineness and humility is just really distant from his players, and it's a total turn-off which has been well documented from the Browns days. It works when the players say, "Okay. Our coach is what he is. But there are some really good things about him. Let's band together and make this work!"

'No Days Off!' seems a little extreme, but it worked for our guys. It's really easy to keep track of your off days - when you don't have any.

Playing in Boston has always been different. It will continue to be long after Belichick leaves, which hopefully won't be for at least a few years from now. This would have been a lot easier had he just kept Zappe in there (and kept Folk, and Meyers, and...well anybody but Bill O'Brien).

Red Auerbach didn’t do anything, it was all Bill Russell.
Here we go with the Celtics version of Team Bill vs Team Tom.
Are you on Team Red or Team Bill?

That‘s actually wrong. It isn’t a total turn off for all his players. It’s a turn off for some, for others it works. Even now there are players sating positive things about Bill’s approach. Just read what Peppers said within the past couple of days. Read Uche’s comments about Bill’s communicating with him during the trade deadline. There have been a lot of players in the past who have said Bill is totally different behind closed doors than his public persona, that he’s actually a cool dude in their experience. But that doesnt fit the popular narrative, and there are the players like Chris Jones that are quick to bash Bill at every chance they can. Thing is, Bill is consistent. He is what he is. Works for some players, not for others. But not “a total turn off”.

i agree totally with much of the rest of your post. For years I’ve had the vision of Bill in his lab coat doing his mad scientist experiments with team chemistry as the reason the preseason seemed to last into early November before the team started hitting on all cylinders. Then by Thanksgiving Bill had finished tweaking and tuning and had things running at full throttle rolling into the playoffs. That was how Brady was able to get guys like Jabar Gaffney to have more 100 yard games in the playoffs than he had all regular season.

Problem since TB12 left is that Bill hasn’t had the necessary ingredients for his alchemy. Even his coaching staff has been raided by other teams. He countered with an experiment last year that went badly. Drafting Mac looked like he might’ve struck gold, but it’s turned out to be fools gold. This year injuries depleted his OL ingredients, and Mac turned into his evil nemesis CoRoy at the most inopportune times. Bill has found himself in the same situation as a gambler was white hot until the dice turned ice cold for him. It’s called “reversion to the mean”. It was inevitable.

Ernest Adams was the mad scientist. When he left, so did a third or more of the Pats brain trust.

Agreed. I believe the standard of winning set most notably by what the celtics have established is the standard of winning for our sports teams. The generation of players he's had at the beginning of his patriots tenure ty law, lawyer Malloy, Ted Johnson, Willie McGinest, teddy Bruschi on defense were guys he inherited from the Parcells era. I agree the 2 biggest off season blunders were Myers and D hop. Those guys should have been here. Especially Myers.
