Is it about time for a new FG Kicker?????

Two thoughts here:

(1) It's possible he has an undiagnosed injury (remember he had the yips in 2010, too, before he tore his quad).

(2) The worst case scenario is that the Pats release him, he regains his form, and then the Colts or Donkeys have their kicker for the next decade.

I honestly think this might be a side effect of the kickoff changes screwing up his regular mechanics (similar to how Vinatieri became an UDFA because he was asked to punt, too).

I've been thinking the same thing. It would be a shame if this is true and Bill gives up on him. Then your second point above may well come to pass.

Personally i'm willing to give him time to work through it for now, you don't want to get into the NFL kicking carousel disaster cause believe me what we've seen from Gostkowski lately is what half the league deals with on a regular basis.

There isn't any good ones in free agency and have you seen college kickers this year? My god good luck with that.

he is/was a good kicker. He sucks right now. I don't know what you can do. I guess it is possible that a player starts to suck, but is it an age/physical thing for a kicker?

Regardless we have needed field goals in too many playoff games to not expect this is going to hurt the team in a big spot. Heck it already did in last years AFCCG but who knows if he had even made the 1 we would have needed if he had not missed the first extra point. I used to think that was just a total fluke but not any more.

The weird thing is I feel he is just as capable of nailing a big one too, it would be a surprise but still. It could go either way.

It's truly troublesome, but I think BB will give him a lot of room to work it out. He's very much a part of the team and its spirit.

I suppose the problem could be the new kick off types he has to master, but kicking off in different ways is supposed to part of every kicker's mo.

this is like those discussions, "Can we trade for XYZ or can we fire JMcD or MP" . Who do you want as a replacement ?Name the awesome kicker out there who is available right now.

I didnt like the miss and pretty much called it but he was 3/4 and without the 3 the Pats dont win so he can do better but who out there is going to replace him? Maybe bring a rookie in next year to compete but I still like the ghost.

I dont think Kicking, PATS and FG have been great this year across the board.

I wrote here months ago (you can look it up - I'm too lazy to) that in my opinion this situation isn't going to improve. I'm perpetually a glass is half full guy, but I believe Ghost is cooked. He may make a bunch of field goals the rest of the way, but he won't make a season-changing one. I think he's done as a franchise kicker. I hope I'm wrong because he's been a great Patriot for a long, long time. I'm really sad about it. But, I believe it's over for him.

Well he's going to be kept through the season due purely to the fact that there isn't anyone better on the street. That said, if his struggles are not injury related and are simply due to confidence issues, then the team needs to cut ties in the offseason

I vote yes....Gost has lost it....
I have to agree with you at this point....I would argue with almost anyone up until this point.....but it's become mental at this moment I think....and the guy doesn't have the confidence to make a extra point never mind a FG attempt with game on line.....time to bring in another PK to challenge

I don't know. But if BB makes decisions going forward based on his mistrust of Gost, that is very troublesome. I know there aren't many options out there. But once January rolls around, if BB decides to go for it on 4th down facing a 43 yarder - then we are better off getting someone in for a tryout.

I would bring in someone to compete next season. Not a draft pick, though.

WHy on earth would you be so certain of this? He's 32. He's just coming into a kicker's prime. Adam Vinatieri is 43 and still kicking fine. Sebastian Janikowski is 38 and still kicking fine. George Freaking Blanda kicked into his 50s!

It wouldn't matter if he was 22. It's mental. It's like golfers with the yips and Chuck Knoblauch being unable to throw to first base. He's done, cooked and bye-bye. And I love him.

One more- Daniel Bard.
