Am I the only one who thinks Martellus Bennett has wanted to be a Patriot for a while?

Excuse me for bringing this guy up so often, but I just love this guy and the positive attitude he brings to the NE Patriots. As he continues to rip his old team and as he continues to love his team he is on, it makes me wonder if he always wanted to be a Patriot and actually be apart of a winning franchise andwell built system?

He seems to love NE and at times it seems like he is in love with this team.

Do you think he always wanted to be a Patriot and always respected Tom Brady?

The way he is talking now..i fully expect him to be back..he loves..loves it here

No he knew the Patriots were winners, he wouldn't necessarily understand the culture till he was in THAT locker room.

He remarked in the ESPN interview preview how J Whitten never tried to help him when he arrived in Dallas. This is in contrast to the way Gronk has been helping him adjust to this O. You can see on the field the chemistry between he and Gronk and how the emphasis is on the team scoring as opposed to who get the ball.

He is understanding what this place is all about.

i love marty! bill better bring him back.

So far it's looking like Randy Moss pt.2.

It should go unsaid that he's got a ways to go to get to that HoF/GOAT level career, but the circumstances of the trade and level of play are looking very similar.

I know this is Marty's thread but I love and have developed a lot of respect for Gronk. He is really happy to see Marty doing well. Long may it continue. In doing so, it works for our gain. Marty should know that a time will come when he may not get balls his way and he should be equally as happy as Gronk is for him right now.

In addition, I am selfish and want to prolong Gronk's career, so having someone else take some of the pounding is long overdue. Hopefully defenses can no longer concentrate on Gronk alone.

One thing you don't want to do with a spontaneous guy like Bennett is to try to size him up. He's too big for this type of speculation... Just give him space--and just the right praise, and he'll be the player he needs to be.

Whether he likes it here or not, or whether he likes it better, is no more relevant than asking the same about Tom Brady. These determined players have bigger issues on their mind, which is not to say that the team and the place count for nothing, just that either one of them could quickly adapt to almost any situation or team or city.

I am guessing it's a one-year stay for Marty. $ talks sometimes. But, I'm also loving what I see & hope he keeps delivering for the entire season. With all the players to retain after this season, I'd be surprised if he sticks around. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm optimistic, yeah, he sure seems to be enjoying his time here. Hopefully that translates to an easy negotiation after the season.

I think he really likes it here, but his brother and him know that they need to be making money. That being said it really sounds like Martellus didn't like being in Dallas or Chicago

When the trade initially occurred I thought this was definitely a 1 year rental.

He wanted a new, bigger contract from the Bears and they wouldn't budge. His brother over in Seattle also wanted an increase in pay. Martellus was/is definitely underpaid at $5.1m/avg salary (he'd fetch $10m per in FA) but I just can't imagine the Pats would be interested at that number.

He'd have to be willing to take a deal around $7m per, maybe $8.5 max...

I know cutting Amendola next year would save $7m (I think) but I always thought that would be used to help make room for Collins and Hightower. Then you have to look at guys like Butler, Sheard and Ryan.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a link to this interview. I'd love to see! :)

I think it'd be very hard for him to walk away. Ultimately if the money isn't here it isn't here but, it's going to be tough for him to sign with another loser.

Well when you Tweet this to the world:

.....I'd say you are enjoying your stay a lot. And it's not like he's been a Patriot for just 5 weeks, he was traded for during Free Agency in March, so he's been in the "system" for almost 9 months. That's a long time to get to know your teammates and become cool. Like others have said, I hope all of this is not posturing and that he ultimately does stay, but these little pearls of hints give me confidence that he will.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did leave as a free agent, but he seems REALLY invested here. Even in less than a year, he seems extremely attached to his teammates, coaches and the team itself. For a guy who was previously regarded as a "problem" in the locker room, I would say that's pretty huge.
