I don't buy tickets and the jerseys I've bought have come straight from China, bypassing the NFL middleman and the rent they collect on their intellectual property. Doesn't matter either way. The NFL's big money dumps come from the networks, and the consumer, even in a 'swarm,' has absolutely no control over it. I'm rooting for the players to strike and will stand with them in solidarity if they do, because that's about the one thing that could actually change things.
Then according to that ridiculous NFL ad featuring Michael Irvin, you directly fund terrorism. Congrats!
I'm hoping to last that long but I'm really getting sick of the NYJFL/BSPN cabal. There is little fun it it anymore so what's the point?Once TB and BB are out I'm done.
eSports is the future.
You watch the games, right?Good for you. I don't care if it actually shows up on their eventual bottom line or not, they are not getting any more of my money.

Then they're getting your money.
FBI needs to investigate them already.
Statistical sampling these days goes quite a bit beyond simple Nielsen ratings. For you to sit there and say "oh I'm not a Nielsen family so I don't get counted" shows a lack of understanding the process.I'm not in a nealson household,
And yet the NFL brings in countless billions of dollars from those networks who broadcast over the air for free.so it wouldn't matter whether I do or don't. And, yes, I'm watching less and less with hopes of being football free soon.
They get my money? How much do you pay for network TV? Oh... right.
While I do agree that "eSports" are getting bigger, and will become a bigger part of our culture, it'll take a long time to replace real physical sports. The most basic reason (and sorry for my bluntness here): High school football players get laid; WoW griefers do not, even in tournament form....

I don't know about you, but I'm not a "fan" of Monsanto or Dow Chemicals or any of these other for-profit entities you're talking about. If I'm going to be a fan of something, I want it to have enough redeeming qualities so I don't feel like taking a shower every time I learn what they're actually doing.
Yeah, you're right, people like me who enjoy both gaming and watching physical sports don't get married or have kids -- oh wait; we do! Everyone in my family and extended family not only plays video games, but we go to tournaments and events. We're fairly normal people with diverse hobbies, and one of them happens to be video games. Some of my relatives even works for Riot, which puts out League of Legends, the most played game in the world. eSports (no need for the quotation marks; it's a real thing) is here to stay, and I do think it will eventually surpass football, since it's an international experience.
For League alone, which made over 1.6 Billion dollars last year, they have multiple leagues (for North America, Europe, Korea, China, etc), with teams who have coaches, analysts, support staff, etc. The games regularly draw millions of viewers every single day, and they have announcers, play by play analysts, and highlight shows with breakdowns and interviews. Star players can make millions. It's as polished and well-produced as any football game I've seen, and it's only going to get bigger.

You're just 1 person so obviously if you watch or not no one would notice. But if there were a million people like you who said "we are not Nielsen families so no one would notice if we watched or not" then that would be a fallacy.
You watch the games, therefore they get your attention and they make money off of that attention.

Gee, I wonder why.....
