Consider the evidence....

* Bill Barnwell tweeted today that back in 2009 when the NFL was pushing for an 18-game season, they manipulated the data, hiding real injury numbers from owners.

* The Ray Rice scandal, where the NFL was caught outright lying in order to save their skin.

* The Bountygate scandal, where the NFL clearly overstepped their bounds and were slapped down by Tagliabue.

* The inconsistent penalties that were levied against various teams for similar infractions (see: tampering, Jets, Chiefs; or see: video recording other teams, Patriots, Broncos).

* The report that Michael Sam being drafted by the Rams was a push by the NFL in order to get the first openly gay player into the league.

* Deflategate and all the utter nonsense, lying, manipulation, and deception done by the league.

* Deflategate and the NFL appeasing a handful of owners who wanted nothing more than to bring down the Patriots.

* And now the tobacco story yesterday, where the NFL once again manipulated data, lied about concussions and CTE, and pulled money from research because it wasn't going their way.

The NFL is ruining people's lives. Yes, making many people a lot richer and providing us with wonderful entertainment. The NFL is addictive, and people will watch it, which is why they know they can get away with these things. But they are ruining people's lives, ruining reputations, and in the case of CTE, actually are responsible for major injuries and deaths. Not because nobody knows that football is an inherently dangerous activity, but because they, like big tobacco, are hiding the actual data, which doesn't give its participants a true understanding of the risks involved. This NYT story just blows the lid off this topic and shows how devious and deceptive and morally reprehensible the NFL is.

After reviewing this evidence, how can anyone possibly trust the NFL to be full of integrity, ever? So when you look at Deflategate, for example, you have a guy with an impeccable reputation (Brady), being accused by the NFL of worse and worse crimes (from "more than likely generally aware of a scheme to deflate footballs" to basically masterminding an entire enterprise designed to undermine the integrity of the game) with no evidence whatsoever of any rule-breaking (which is rich, considering in Pash's reply to the NYT story yesterday he referred to the NYT having "no direct evidence" haha), which side do most fans take?

Incredibly, most fans are taking the side of the NFL, which is known now to be a deceitful, morally bankrupt, lying, manipulating, greedy organization that will do basically anything to make $$, even if that means ruining the lives of others.

No, this isn't hyperbole. This is all in the record now. It's....unbelievable. And yet we as fans will continue to eat up the NFL because the on-field product is so compelling.

In the NFL everything is a labyrinth of dark conspiracy, and everybody is plotting to deceive, inveigle and obfuscate. - Scully, The X-Files

No, c'mon, it's just a game that people love....passionately....and it's the best game to watch live....and on HDTV....so people love to spend $ on it....lots of freakin' money....so the NFL owners are all billionaires....and the values of the franchises are soaring.....so there.....it's just a game...played by men....loved by so money, I mean, many. It's not a crime, no, it's a shame.

Yep. And the owners, including our own, are right up there with Goodell. They think the game is infallible. They're wrong. You can already see the splinters beginning to form.

Speak for yourself. A vast majority of the games last year were unwatchable including the SB.

Once TB and BB are out I'm done.

I hear you, but they're still turning out ridiculous numbers in terms of viewership.

I agree an it will continue. I don't think their on the field product is as good as it was. The timeouts. The stops n starts in play. The official's crappy calls. QB play. The flow of the game is brutal.

I agree. I feel the same way about NCAA basketball, with all the TV timeouts. But the game itself is still something that people want to watch.

I won't stick around to see BB, but I don't think he's going to coach when Brady leaves anyway.

Don't get me going on the NCAAs

Speaking for myself only, I don't care if they lose numbers or not. I will leave the NYJFL for my own peace of mind. I would feel like a sucker for supporting a sport whose administrators are playing me for a fool.

Fantasy football, when all is said and done and the league begins taking a downturn in a decade or two, will be the primary vessel keeping the league afloat. What you're seeing is a league that's still popular in terms of the diehards (I.E. - the people disgusted with the way things are going but still sink thousands of dollars of their own cash into season tickets, concessions, apparel, etc.) on top of the fact that fantasy football is thriving. It'll dip. It may take time, but it will happen. You can only oversaturate and water down a product so much before the public decides they've had enough and moves on to something else.

I have no idea what he's going to do.

Barstool as always, defending the wall.

Its like we're living in a continuous 24/7 broadcast of The Onion

I would have no problem if the NFL implodes and becomes nothing more than a blip on sports fans radar. I agree with the OP that the NFL is being run similar to a criminal organization. They could care less about the fans and the players, it really is all about the $$$$$. I am holding out hope that a journalist will investigate the NFL and inform the people of his findings. ESPN could do a 30 for 30 about the fraud that is happening in the NFL offices but won't because they are in bed with them.

WOnder where this league will be in 5-10 years
