Curran: Time for Brady to think hard about making a deal

Serious question. how do you ignore a thread? Unfortunately, someone used the name of a writer I do not want to look at while i eat breakfast, so can I just eliminate that thread from view?

You have to click on the link and you'll see "Thread Tools" and in the dropdown, you'll see "Ignore Thread".

Here's the deal. I'm willing to trade my principles and my integrity, your honor.

"What do you have to trade, commissioner?"

"Nothing in those areas"

"Then we move on."

You don't think goodie is trying to fix the results to get teams from different markets into the Super Bowl? In the first place, that is his stated intention. He says openly he wants to change the draft or other conditions to prevent the same teams from succeeding every year.

Case in point, taking draft picks and benching the quarterback of the super bowl winner 4 games.

Secondly, that was satire, and the best satire is uncomfortably close to the truth.

Of course it was satire because The League definitely needs to be fixed.

Can we please stop suggesting the season-long study solution? Not only would Brady/NFLPA never accept a punishment hanging over his head like that, but the science has already been proven beyond argument.

It would only open the door for more league shenanigans.

I think Curran's point is that it's no longer about whether or not he did anything wrong.

It's now about a bunch of suits fighting in court over whether or not the commissioner has the proper authority to dish out this kind of punishment, as they argue about the fine print in their labor contract.
That's my take. All Curren seems to imply is that as some experts have said, if Brady's team is getting bad vibes from Berman, then he needs to think about what he can live with.

Is it a another arbitration hearing? That seems the most reasonable to me (other than TB being vacated)

Ridiculous. Even one game is well beyond either precedent or what's allowable per the rulebook, and would have been appealed anyway. There is no way Tom settles on that, let alone something higher.

You also have to consider that the absolute worst case scenario is four games, so it's not like the guy is avoiding 20 years in prison. The risk isn't enough to justify throwing away your honor and your pride when you also have the stronger case.

Oh, and can someone please mention in these "settlement" articles that the NFL already got the largest pound of flesh out of the Patriots in the history of the league? Sure, this is a different case but that is still important context.

Proposed settlement

Tom says

1. No suspension, no fine
2 Sincere apology from the league to me, Patriots and Coaches for any and all injustices done
3. The Commissioner agrees not to invoke his option to be Hearing Officer in any arbitration for the remainder of the Bargaining Agreement

For this, I agrees not to sue for defamation.

Oh, by the way, earlier this morning I assigned net proceeds from any defamation suit I may file to the NFLPA Strike fund.

The Patriots have the right coach and the right team to survive 4 games without Brady's services. They survived 16 without him already. So I don't think the urgency is as much as some people think. It's worth fighting for your honor and legacy even if he must sit 4.

Brady is not a cheat and I believe him when he says he really did nothing wrong. And I have no doubt the league has the chutzpah to demand an admission of guilt with any reduction. So what is there to gain by caving?

Only acceptable settlement is agreeing to a fine for what the league is calling non cooperation. Not a suspension and not for any other reason.

And you know the organization is making notes of all of this.

Prediction: At least one Patriot opponent gets "caught cheating" this season.

Watch.

What I don't understand is HOW we ever got to this point, when the Wells report produced the following statement on page 228:

""In sum, the data did not provide a basis for us to determine with absolute certainty whether there was or was not tampering as the analysis of such data ultimately is dependent upon assumptions and information that is not certain."
Thank you again for pointing this out. This was one of the first things that jumped out at me the day the Wells Report was released as I was skimming through it, and everything since that day has felt like some kind of bizarro world nightmare.

My post was about fixing, as in fixing horse races.

What the league office needs is an enema with a firehose.

That would fix it.

Got a nice paycheck on your mailbox Curran?

Curran has been on fire during this whole thing, but this is a miss. There is zero (repeat: ZERO) proof that Brady had anything to do with this. There is zero (repeat: ZERO) proof that the footballs were deflated in malice. There is plenty (repeat: PLENTY) of proof that science had something to do with this. There is plenty (repeat: PLENTY) of proof that this was sting operation and set-up on the part of the Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, the NFL office, and Roger Goodell. Why, with all of that being known (and Curran has reported as much) should Brady make a deal that includes even one game? Brady and the NFLPA should stick to their guns, tell Goodell to go **** himself, and if Berman rules in the NFL's favor, keep fighting until opening night. And, from all reports, that's what Brady plans to do...

According to a source, settlement talks yesterday b/w the NFL and NFLPA on Brady went nowhere. Admission-of-guilt remains a stumbling block.

I think its one thing for anyone outside to comprehend anything but exoneration , its another for the man himself to be in front of a judge who tells him to settle or take a chance of losing 4 games. Its not easy when one's ownself has to make the call and decision. I think that is curran's point. If NFL offers 1 game then brady refuses what does the judge do about it .? Does he think one party was willing to settle and others arent.
I hate to even imagine if brady thinks of even paying a fine (as Steph Stradely said, not sure why goodell is big on fines which anyways go to charity like he did in the bountygate case) but the reality may be different in front of the judge and when brady himself has to make a call. I dont envy his position tonight and tomorrow however strong a case the NFLPA has.

IMO, TB has shown an amazing ability to stay focused under pressure. I am reminded of the his first SB when the announcer said "Well, it looks like the Pats will settle for a tie and overtime." And Brady drove downfield for the win.

Obviously it's because #spygate

He's saying that it's in the best interests of the 2015 Patriots if the GOAT and reigning Super Bowl MVP QB is on the field for more than 12 games and if the league is opening the door to making that happen then....

Perhaps he's right. But seasons come and go... legacies are forever. This is about more than just the 4 games which as I said the Patriots can survive.
