It's easy, and only takes a few moments. There is risk in everything; the question is if O’Brien thinks Mallett is worth the risk. Mallett is a actually a good fit for the Texans, he has a big arm and they have two WRs on the outside who can get up the field. The short length of time remaining on his contract cuts both ways. Sure if he sucks you can move on without him and he is off the books right away. But if he succeeds, he can leave you high and dry for some other team, or put you in the extremely uncomfortable position of having to franchise him.
And he was playing against 2nd and 3rd string players.
Not that I disagree with you @SB39 as Patsfans has markedly overestimated Mallett's trade value. That said, I don't think any Quarterback in this year's draft is an excellent prospect. Mallett's College Football career compares favorably against most. Combined with his supposed NFL readiness given his position behind Brady then I can see why the Texans may want him. Please let me clarify: I don't think Mallett is overrated because I don't think anybody - outside this forum - thinks he is worth all that much.
But people in this forum, for some reason, have lost their minds. Sorry, but when someone says he would possibly be the #1 pick in the draft, that is someonw who is overrating Mallett to laughable extremes.
He was a 3rd rounder 3 years ago, and has done nothing to improve on that since then. If anything, he is worth less because he only has 1 year left on his rookie deal.

This is another thing that amuses me to no end. The Mallett-krishnas #1 reason they claim he has increased his value is because he has stayed drug-free for the past few years.I disagree; Mallett has done plenty to increase his value. The concerns that caused Mallett to drop were character issues, mobility in the pocket, and conditioning. He has been nothing short of perfect character wise, after being sacked 6 times in his first preseason he has been sack 3 times in the last two and just once last preseason and he lost about 20lbs between his rookie and second season to significantly improve his body.
To clarify, I do not think there is any way in freaking hell Mallett is worth the #1 pick. I do think that if the Texans gave up #65 and got Mallett back or even if we traded Mallett and #62 to Houston for #33 that it would be solid deal for the Texans. Please let me clarify: I don't think Mallett is overrated because I don't think anybody - outside this forum - thinks he is worth all that much.

When you're #1 selling point is the guy has been drug-free, that's pretty sad.
Essentially, that values Mallett at 205 points on the trade value chart, which equates to #77, I would not trade Mallett for pick #77 personally it is not worth it.How about Mallet + #29 for Texans #33 and #65..
Would work for me..
What are you basing that on? Their college stats are quite comparable. What makes you say Mallet is "far better"?Mallett is far better than Bortles, who has been under consideration as the #1 pick. Don't under rate Mallett.
What value is there in knowing what you are going to get when you know he's a mediocre talent? Why accept a mediocre talent when you can draft a potential superstar?i think the real number 1 selling point is Bill Obrien knows what he is going to get. do you draft a QB who might be an NFL bust, or do you trade for a guy who you coached at the professional level for a couple of years.

if this happens i would be SHOCKED if we got anything better then a 3rd and a 5th for him.
Swapping 2nd's and them getting mallet isnt worth it imo

What has Bortles done to show you he is a potential superstar? Mallet > Bortles
Swapping seconds essentially the same points value as getting the 3rd and 5th.
You know its Tom Savage in the second I pray not the first round though.
He gets Schianos approval it's basically as good as gold.
