Ras-I Dowling

If Dowling ends up cut or IR'd or whatever at #33 in the draft his competition for the biggest bust ever would be Chad Jackson #36, Andy Katzenmoyer #28, Chris Canty #29, Eugene Chung #13.

I can't even put guys like Dykes in that conversation. He had over a thousand yards receiving. Reggie Dupard over a thousand yards total rushing + receiving. The often injured Keneth Simms had 17 career sacks so even though he was the number one pick I still think it's not as bad.

I mean even Canty and Katzenmoyer each had a career interception. Dowling has less tackles than the total from the offensive players taken in the second round with him that year. :bricks:

So...the pads are on and Dowling sucks once again? What happened? Wasn't he a stud in the spring practices?

why does anyone have any hope for this kid anymore? He just isn't cut out for the NFL..just doesn't catch breaks..

Injuries happen, it's a fact of life in the NFL. Hard to fault the front office for not being able to predict that he'd suffer a major hip injury.

IMO, the criticism should be saved for guys who do play and turn out to be no good, because a player's ability and projection of his future progress is something that the front office should be able to evaluate when drafting him.

In my eyes, guys like Cunningham and Brace are much bigger busts than Dowling. For the brief period where he was healthy, Dowling was a good CB - Cunningham and Brace had plenty of healthy time to prove themselves, but just weren't very good.

I agree. When I think draft bust, I think about guys like Jamarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf, Matt Leinart, Lawrence Phillips and for the Pats, probably Hart Lee Dykes at #16 overall. Guys who just couldn't play or who couldn't stand up under the bright lights of the NFL.

Dykes was an idiot who basically imploded by suffering a career-ending eye injury after getting into a brawl with Irving Fryar.

Injuries, particularly thinks like the neck injury to Andy Katzenmoyer that threatened him with becoming a paraplegic if he got hit the wrong way do not really brand him as a bust. He made the right choice to walk away.

I'm interested to learn the nature of Dowling's current malady.

It is going to take him some time to get readjusted to playing in pads, he hasn't played much football in the last 2 years. Let's see where he is at by the first preseason game. I still think this kid has a ton of potential, I'm really hopeful he puts it together.

Our top 3 CB's would be as good as any team in the NFL's if Dowling does do as I hope.

Player Height Weight 40 Dash
Talib 6'1 202 4.38
Dowling 6'1 198 4.35
Dennard 5'10 204 4.48

We have said this every single year and it never happens. The guy is a wasted roster space.

its been 2 years; haven't you ever heard the saying "3rd times a charm"? :p

No he's not.
I admit I love making fun of his name but let the guy get thru camp, or not, before de facto pronouncing him a waste of 90 slots.

With regards to Glass-IR, it's three strikes and your out. :snob:

I agree completely, if he doesn't get it this season, the :plane: will be at the gate.

I cannot believe we picked this guy with our first pick, 33rd overall. There's a very, very low chance he ever performs to the level that justifies that pick. And we wonder why we have problems on defense.

The ONLY thing wasted here was the band width.human energy, arnd time.

I find it troubling that we have here a significant number of fans whose only purpose seems to be finding a favorite scapegoat and be there to exaggerate EVERY possible flaw, both real and imagined.

Get a grip - A guy who by all accounts is having a very productive camp misses part of a practice to an injury. Lets start a thread that runs double digits and hammer the guy. Call him names, and STILL have no idea of the what the injury is and how long he will be out...if at all.

All I can say, is that it must be a horrible existence when the best part of your day is hating on someone for no apparent reason.

How many games has he played in the last two seasons. If he simply missed "part of a practice" due to injury, we wouldn't have this thread. This isn't a vacuum: most fans here were paying attention at draft time ("Hey, why did we do that, isn't he thought to be injury prone, why did we just spend a first round pick on this guy?"), his first season, and last season.

Sheesh. I am all for calling out chicken littles, but we are way beyond that.

I hated the pick from the first moment for exactly the reason he is not contributing......it was documented and ignored......

time to move on

Well to put things in perspective, I've ignored almost everything you post. Move on, indeed! :p

when I first heard the news I laughed. hes a joke. look at him the wrong way and down goes dowling. he cant even get out of camp without getting hurt lol. pathetic.

Maybe the team should start to look into players with previous injury issues in college just like they will look into character issues now.
